I think haynesworth would be very good in the 3-4 but not as stout. 40+ pounds is a big deal when you have two guys min on you every play. Jenkins did play well in the typical 4-3 role in Carolina as well. The difference is that Haynesworths main Job is penetration while controlling only one gap. Jenkins has to hold two gaps while holding his ground against two blockers on every play. There is a bit of difference between being able to control one gap and make plays and bewteen fend off the blockers on two gaps and freeing up the LB's behind you. 3-4 Linemen do not put up the numbers that thier 4-3 counterparts do for the in most cases. As was said above I thinnk Haynesworth would made a great 3-4 DE and a very good NT in the 3-4. He is probly better at the 4-3 job then Jenkins would be, but not as good int he 3-4 role IMO.
Haynesworth has the perfect everything for the 3-4 DE. If you want to see a Kris Jenkins clone, watch Haloti Ngata. If Jenkins spent his whole career path is exactly what I think Jenkins' would have been if he was in a 3-4. When Jenkins came out, he was alot more trim and his frame was slightly less massive. He would have made a sick 3-4 end early on. Ngata's long term career path could be to move inside in the Ravens 3-4 (if they hold it his whole career), just because he's also got the right type of frame that can fill out to a NT's despite being taller than the usual NT height. Kelly Gregg's not going to retire soon, but I don't really expect this to happen anytime soon. Then again...he could also stick at DE his whole career and stay as well conditioned as he's been. But 340 pounds at 24 just screams future NT to me, and he'll be a dominant one.
Yea , Definately would be great if in the off-season we sign Haynesworth and have him play DE... Wont happen especially how good Ellis is playing and Coleman but Haynesworth and Jenkins on a 3 Line in the 3-4 would be 10 x better then Pat and Kevin williams.
I don't really see how Bryan Thomas is outplaying Calvin Pace. The dude has half a sack since the bye week. Typical cactus- once the heat is off, so is the gas.
Aahhaha, the cactus reference. Who coined that, was it SundayJack? Btw, did anyone catch Jenkins' interview on WFAN this afternoon?
jenkins was on WFAN today with mike francesa. says he likes the 3-4 better then the 4-3. he is an absolute stud! he was great in carolina too. just a little injury prone. i questioned him being in on 3rd and longs, but he is always around the QB when he rushes the passer
the ppl ahead of him are playing well, that could also have something to do with it. when/if Gholston is called upon and fails then something's wrong, until then just be happy we're good enough that we don't need him right now.
I'm a VG supporter, but wouldn't it be nice if he were ready to step in. With Harris out, they could move Pace inside... VG steps in... Oh well, gotta wait...
That'd be sick. At least we know Gholston won't go Kamerion Wimbley on us...blow everyone away for a year and then *poof* disappear for the next 18+ months or w/e.
#77 is just what the doctor ordered for the D-line. He is way better than Robertson ever was. When he first signed with the Jets he said he loves playing the nose. The position is not a glory spot but it is very important. The last two years teams ran the ball all day long against the D. Jenkins is not the only reason the Jets are stuffing the run but he is the anchor, the foundation if you will. I am very glad he is wearing a Jets uniform. :jets:
I don't really see Pace being all that effective inside. Personally I'd rather see Gholston play DE. But I did see some nice things from him last week. Lets see if he gets more PT over the next couple of weeks. If he can figure it out he could be a force down the stretch with fresh legs.
Maybe. To be honest, I don't think I'd want to trade Jenkins for Wilfork straight up right now. Would you? Would anyone?
Didn't Thomas get a fat contract a few years ago. Well, not too fat, but pretty damn good. They are paying him too.
