I can not stand the weekly grades and the mid-season grades these guys hand out. Just interview the players and keep your opinions to the Blogs, most of these guys are not qualified to grade players by positions.
There is already a thread on the grades. This is a reaction to it, no need to start your own thread. post this in the other thread. and, personally, i like them.
They're probably at least worthwhile to some of the 99.9% of fans that don't check & post to theganggreen.com every 10 minutes, though
Actually, I think we can find a use for this thread. Grade The Jets Beat Writers Rich Cimini Objectivity: C+ Cimini is an excellent writer who has the innate ability to submerge agenda under a plethora of player quotes, most likely quotes diligently fished for. If we knew the questions asked that led to the quotes, this score would likely be lower. Content: A+ Cimini is the best of the group in this category. He provides the best quotes, no matter the direction (or misdirection) he uses to get them. He also has the best feel for the way the team is comprised of all of the writers, in my opinion, and conveys it well in his writing. Style: B If Rich could remain objective, this score would be higher, but he fluctuates his articles between objectivity and self-serving drivel, lately more toward the former, and sometimes his writing suffers for it. Most times, however hed isplays tremendous writing talent that knows how to weave his subject matter into a very good product. Injection of Personal Opinion: B RC does well avoiding adding his opinions into his writing, tending to let player quotes (see above) do the job for him. He's masterful at getting the quotes to tell his story. Erik Boland Objectivity: A+ This is the rookie of the group, and maybe that's why he isn't prone to err on the side of negativity and guile. So far he has shown me he knows what it means to be the bearer of Jets news to the Jets masses without letting personal feelings about the FO/CS get the best of him. Content: C- As a rookie, I think he has less in terms of sources, and while he does well to present the current state of the Jets, he ends up coming up short to some of the other beats. Style: C+ While I like Boland's objectivity and I think his content will improve vastly over time, he is not the most gifted of the writers in terms of his actual craft. His writing style needs some work. Injection of Personal Opinion: A+ You can basically read Objectivity concerning this one... truly the only personal opinions I've detected from EB are ones not concerning the actual state or performance of the team. He understands he is a writer and not a football man and doesn't pretend otherwise. Dave Hutchinson Objectivity: C Hutch is sometimes able to think extremely objectively, other times he seems to react with an agenda. Over the Herm years he was very positive, spinning things like a political writer... without the obvious agenda of someone like Can'O'Lardo. These days, with Mangini controlling information like a Soviet Information Minister, it's easy to see how annoyed he is without easily-obtained info. Content: B Dave is good at finding the meat for his articles and presenting it well, although his resources don't seem to be as good as some of the other beats. Style: C+ Hutch is the JAG of the group in terms of writing style. He has the tools to do the job well, if not in spectacular fashion. I've always like his writing, if not been blown away by it. Injection of Personal Opinion: B+ In years past I would have given DH an A in this one, but lately he's backslid a bit, sometimes sounding bitter in his articles. Mark Cannizzaro Objectivity: D+ Occasionally, Fat Mark can pull a rabbit out of his ass and show some perspective, but most times his message is clouded by his opinion... which is almost never disguised. Content: C- Only once in a blue moon will this guy dig for content, but judging by the limited access the beat writers are given by the team, it's hard to judge them too harshly in this category. Style: B+ While I love to hate him, I wouldn't be able to do so if he didn't present his articles in such a way as to infuriate me. I'm sure I'm not the only one. He knows how to get his point across in an undeniable fashion. Injection of Personal Opinion: F- Can'O'Lardo is the worst of the group in this category. In the past 2 years he's written his articles in the vein of an overweight child deprived of his daily engorgement of sweets. He criticizes the Jets' moves, philosophy and production with personal opinions as though he were a retired GM or coach or player instead of a tub of shit who can't even tie his shoelaces and hasn't seen his own dick in 10 years.
I thought the same thing Byz!!! I grade em all F- I dislike most of the media especially beat writers
