After getting feedback from my "Quick Mock Draft for 2009" and after talking in the New York Jets forum, I have come up with a complete mock NFL Draft for the New York Jets for 2009. The positions that are picked come from assessing our current weaknesses now and looking ahead to what our needs will be in the future. As of right now, however, I would like to see the Jets sign Marcus Dixon who is a 3-4 DE that was Cowboys released because they are stockpiled with talent at DE. Dixon is a 6'5, 295 lbs rookie who can run a 40 yard dash as fast as 4.85 seconds. He has brute strength and is a great run stuffer but can also get after the QB. He had 4 sacks as a 3-4 DE during his senior year of college at Hampton. Probably won't grow into a starter even though I think he has the talent to, but would be great depth at the 3-4 DE position for us, where we are thinner than Lindsay Lohan (when she was grossly thin). This also brings me to my next point. There is one guy that I would really like us to get in FA in 2009 since he won't be really expensive but fits our 3-4 defense since he plays in it in Dallas: Chris Canty, DE. Canty is emerging as a very good 3-4 DE in the NFL and he is only 25 years old. There is no way that Dallas can realistically resign him with the big deals they just gave to Tony Romo, Marion Barber, Roy Williams (WR), T.O., and first round draft picks Mike Jenkins and Felix Jones. Canty can come in and take over one of the 3-4 DE spots for next 6-7 years. This draft assumes the following: +Jets just miss playoffs, lose a 3rd for the Favre Trade +Lowery stays at CB +Thomas Jones will not be resigned long term +One of these 5 do not declare for the draft: Matt Stafford, Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, Mark Sanchez, Josh Freeman +Jets get a 2nd rounder for Vilma since they resign him +Jets get a 4th rounder for Pete Kendall +Jets get a 4th rounder for Dewayne Robertson 1) William Moore, FS Move Rhodes back to SS where he has excelled and bring in Moore, an All-American playmaking FS (who can play either FS or SS). Rhodes and Moore? Test us deep - I dare you. 2a) Brandon Spikes, ILB Perfect ILB for the 3-4 defense - hard hitter, great tackler, good in coverage. We need another ILB to pair with Harris and Spikes is the best guy in the draft to do that, he just happens to be a 2nd rounder. Pace, Thomas/Gholston, Harris, Spikes.....go change your pants. 2b) Traded for a future 1st round pick This was originally Tyson Jackson who I feel could be a great DE in the 3-4 but a) he might not be here in the 2nd b) he has not been overly impressive in what was supposed to be a break out year and c) we might need to move up to get the QB we want in 2010 so having an extra 1st rounder will certainly help there. This trade has happened and can happen again - a 2nd for a future 1st straight up is actually probably not getting as much value as possible. The Eagles got a 2nd, 4th, and future 1st for their late 1st round pick - a future 1st for a 2nd is less than that. If Jackson is available here, I might change my mind. 3) lost to Favre trade 4a) Mark Parson, CB One of the best man-to-man corners you have never heard of. Only behind Mike Mickens and Alphonso Smith in pass breakups in the Junior class. Slightly undersized at 5'10, 200 lbs, but he runs in the 4.3s and he gives us a 3rd lock down corner which we need in the AFC. 4b) Marko Mitchell, WR 6'4, 210 lbs, 4.40 40 yard dash. Nevada doesn't play top competition which might have a little do with his production (53 receptions, 1,129 receiving yards, 8 TDs in 2007). He is doing very well in 2008. I like his upside a lot, he has great speed and great hands for a big guy. 4c) Rashad Jennings, RB This could be the 2009 4th round diamond. He transferred from Pitt to Liberty because of family issues and he is currently carrying Liberty to an undefeated season. Through 6 games he has 725 yards and 8 TDs (5.6 YPC). He is 6'1, 232 lbs with a 4.42 40 yard dash. Great RB from a lesser known school, great addition to the current group of RBs we have. Makes a great 1-2 punch with Leon Washington. 5) Fenuki Tupou, RT/RG Monstrous right tackle who can also play right guard. Would be great depth at both positions in 2009, and we need O-line depth, and he could be groomed to start for either one. 6) Brandon Swain, DE/OLB A man amongst boys at the DII level. His 2007 production: 71 tackles (34 solo), 24.5 TFL, 14 sacks, 12 QB hurries, 5 FF, 3 FR, 3 PBU, 1 INT (return.ed for TD) - and that is from the DE position. He has the same exact build of John Abraham (6'4, 255 lbs) and is another project at OLB for Jets - just a much cheaper one. 7) Sammie Lee Hill, NT A monstrous NT at 6'4, 330 lbs. He is extremely athletic and has the desire to play in the NFL. He is also from a DII school but he has the talent and size/strength to succeed in the NFL. Would be excellent depth behind Jenkins. UDFA Rico Murray, CB - Kent State's "lockdown" cornerback - can't hurt to add more talent to the secondary. Kory Sperry, TE - Bubba Franks is a failed experiment, Baker is not what he is hyped to be, and Keller is strictly a receiving threat. Sperry is a great TE at Colorado State but will fall because of an injury from last year and dropped off production this year. He is physical in blocking for the run game but he is also a great receiving threat. Great pickup in UDFA. Fui Vakapuna, FB - I really love this FB from BYU. He puts 110% into his blocking and he happens to be great at it. He is a selfless, team player who is being praised by not only the coaches but by the other BYU players for his play. He will block someone onto the ground and then go to someone else and the RB will get 15 more yards. Definitely a Mangini guy and he will be groomed behind Richardson to be the future FB. Greg Carr, WR - Did someone order a red zone target? 6'6, 211 lbs, 4.5 40 yard dash. Does not put up impressive numbers at all but is still talented and the Jets could use a 6'6 guy to throw jump balls to. Ramon Foster, OL - Huge lineman that can play tackle or guard - more versatile O-line depth. Nader Abdallah, NT - If we can get more NT depth, why wouldn't we? Run stuffer at 6'5, 310 lbs, could stand to add a little weight, but that won't be hard. Louie Sakoda, P - 8th in the nation in yards per punt last year (44.8) but also kicks FGs when called upon. He was 10-13 from behind 40 yards last year, so he can be the P and good insurance for Nugent. Needs we filled: FS, ILB, DE (FA), NT depth, RB, WR, OL depth, FB, OLB depth, P. Needs remaining: QB - 1st round of 2010 draft takes care of this. Bradford, Stafford, McCoy, Sanchez, Freeman are all juniors... I will make an in-depth post about each player I have us drafting/signing in free agency/UDFA. I will also make a way-too-early-to-make-but-i-will-do-it-anyway mock for 2010 so you understand the direction I think the team should go in.
where do I begin, first of all there is no way other than injury that Mark Parsons falls to the 3rd round (Parsons is at this point a 1-2) prospect same goes to Topou (is projected as a third. Also it would be ludacris by the Jets not to address any offensive possition in the first three rounds. Also if this lockdown corner from kent state is so good THAN HE SHOULD BE DRAFTED!!!

The Moore pick is great since he can play both positions just like Kerry Brandon Spikes im not crazy about but he suits what we need. Trading a pick makes no sense because we have to many needs to do that, unless the deal is great we cant Again i said it before Mark Parson is gonna be a Day 2 pick as you said he is one of the best man to man corners in the draft and people like that are going to be drafted very high.
1. No way, the Cowboys let Canty go. Jones expects a uncaped year in 2010, that´s how all those rich contracts are built. And even if Canty is a FA, i don´t think our chances are that good we´ll get him. He´s one of the best 34 DEs and he´s very young, every 34 Team will go after him and he´ll get a load of money. 2. Why do you assume that the Jets will miss the playoffs? Show some confidence. 3. I told you in BOTH threads you started about Kerry Rhodes, that there is no FS and SS in the Jets sceme. Why are you so obsessed with that? 4. There won´t be a 2nd rounder for Vilma, we´ll get a 3rd if he resigns. There was a thread in the Jets section just yesterday about that. 5. Our 4th goes to NO if we receive their 3rd. 6. There won´t be a 4th for DRob, would be nice, but aint gonna happen. There also was a Thread about that, several people told you we won´t get a 4th. 7. Why would we trade a 2nd? We need every pick. And even if we would, getting a future 1st rounder for a mid 2nd is very ulikely. I didn´t deal with the pospects already, so i can´t tell that much about your actual mock.
German Jets Fan - Like I've said to one of my best friends who is German - go back to the Rhine and watch some soccer. Moore is a safety that can play both FS/SS so you can stop with your whining about it doesn't matter. The Cowboys won't be able to bring Canty back and he is an FA in 2009, not 2010, so the cap still applies. I am confident with the team, but from right now at a realistic standpoint we will have to make a run at one of the wildcard births and there is a possibility that we finish 3rd in our division so for now I am not going to say we make the playoffs. The pick for Vilma is conditional - I am the one who posted the info on Vilma's trade terms. He is leading the NFL in tackles and playing like an All-Pro again in the 4-3. The Saints will resign him and we will get a 2nd round pick. Until the end of the season I am assuming we get at least a 4th for Robertson - we were going to get more from Cincy and the Broncos remained interested the whole way through + plus he has started and had an impact in all but one game this season. Why would we trade a 2nd? Because there aren't going to be any prospects that we will really want/need there in this draft and some team will want to draft a guy that has fallen to the 2nd badly. The 2nd for a future 1st is not a common trade but it is not "unlikely". I have seen it a bunch over the years. Rhodesfan+Nesquik - Parson won't be a Day One pick. Only 2 CBs will be drafted in the first round - Jenkins + Davis. There are a bunch of other big name CBs that will be available and drafted before Parson in the 2nd and 3rd round. Don't forget a lot of juniors that normally wouldn't declare will most likely for the 2009 draft because of the looming rookie cap for 2010. I know we need "every pick" but the trade makes sense, you will see in a moment. Rico Murray is a lockdown corner, but in a conference that is not great and doesn't play top competition. He is rated as a 7th-UDFA prospect, and that is only with the senior prospects. He will be there in UDFA. Tupou is rated as a 3rd-4th round prospect and that only considers Seniors. With Juniors entering the draft he will be there in the 5th. Your beloved site which I am very familiar with, WalterFootball.com, has not updated its player rankings since May I believe. Also, there scouting reports are not in depth, they are only like 3-4 lines. What they do a good job of is showing you a ton of mocks if that is what you want. MrElectric - I would rightfully call you a douchebag but I get a good laugh every time I see another pointless post from you so I won't. JetsLookingforDWare - I know Canty will cost us money but I think he would be a great investment. He won't garner a huge contact because of all of the talent that will hit the free agent market at the DE position - Julius Peppers and Terrel Suggs, and Haynesworth could hit the market at DT. Canty will be under the radar and he is only getting something like 2 million this year. We can definitely lock him up.
Following up the 2009 draft with 2010 There are some key possible free agent WRs that the Jets should seriously consider going after if they hit the open market in 2010 - Brandon Marshall, Braylon Edwards and Greg Jennings. I am going to assume that they are all resigned by their teams but if one of them gets free the Jets should send the house to sign one of these young dominant WRs. We will need a WR badly in 2010 because Coles will be gone. A more realistic free agent signing: Deuce Lutui, OG (RG) from the Cardinals who will likely hit the open market and he will be entering his 5th season once the Jets resign him. Our RG play is okay but we need a big road grader and that is what Lutui is. The Cardinals have 2 good RGs so Lutui will be let go. For the purpose of the draft I will assume that none of the aforementioned WRs hit the open market, but we do sign Lutui who will take over the RG spot for 4-5 years. Our main needs for this draft include: QB, WR, DE. Before the draft begins: We will trade one of our 1st rounders with our 2nd and our 3rd to get one of the top picks in this draft. We are giving up a lot but it is absolutely necessary - we need to get our franchise QB of the future. So for the draft, we have two 1st round picks, and then a 4, 5, 6, and 7. 2010 NYJ Draft 1a) Matt Stafford or Sam Bradford, QB I have a feeling that either Stafford or Bradford will not declare for 2009 and go back to school for a shot at the title before they move on to the NFL. We take whichever one of these guys is there in the 2010 draft, or if both come out for the 2010 draft we will be able to pick whichever one we like best. Both of these guys are going to be great NFL QBs. 1b) Arrelious Benn, WR I am 100% positive that Benn will come out early for this draft - Juice Williams will be graduating and moving on to the NFL and Benn won't want to stay for his senior year with a new QB so his stock can fall. DHB will likely be the #1 WR prospect and Percy Harvin could stay with Tebow for their senior years so he could be #2. Benn is a big, dominant WR who has very good speed and breaks tackles. He reminds me a lot of Anquan Boldin. With Cotchery, Benn, Stuckey, Clowney and Mitchell we have a very, very good WR group. 4) Lawrence Wilson, DE Wilson will fall because he missed the 2009 season with a broken leg and he won't put up mind boggling numbers in his senior year. Wilson, however, is the perfect DE for the 3-4 defense. He is 6'6, 272 lbs and has great speed (4.65 40 yard dash). He is strong and is a well-rounded DE. We get another guy in the 4th that I am confident will have a big impact after Shaun Ellis moves on. He can spend one year getting coached up and being mentored by Shaun Ellis (and Chris Canty) and can then take over for Ellis in 2011. 5,6,7) Too early to have prospects for these rounds but these 3 picks will address depth concerns and possibly a stud K if Nugent does not pan out. Needs addressed: QB, WR, DE, depth and possibly K. Needs remaining: LG to groom behind Faneca, RT to groom behind Woody, and NT to groom behind Jenkins if Sammie Lee Hill does not work out, but I really think he will.
Dude, have you ever heard of the Franchise tag? There's no way in hell that Denver, Cleveland and Green Bay let those three guys get away. Benn will most likely come out early, but it won't be because his QB is gone. It will be because he'll be the best WR available and he'll go in the Top 5. I'll say this for the last time: Go Play Some Madden.
Notice how many people are calling you out in this thread. Stop with the mock off-seasons. When people tell you they suck and that you suck, it doesn't mean to go "update" it, it means that you flat out suck. I'll just be straight up: You suck at nearly everything. You are the Raiderjeaux of Mock Drafts. Your posts suck and you bring nothing to this forum other than countless annoying threads like: "What position does Kerry Rhodes like the best? I prefer homosexual doggie style!" I would end this with a thumbs up smiley face, like your known to do, but I'm not queer enough to know how to do that.
Someone is a little insecure hahahha. Didn't I tell you it makes my day that much better when you make a post? I believe I said those 3 teams would not let them go....wait...oh, I did. Benn won't be a top 5 pick. DHB will be taken before him, and teams that are in the Top 5 usually have bigger needs than a WR - with the exception of Detroit who loved to take WRs under Matt Millen. I believe the only person that has told me that I "suck" is...you. Your insecurities are laughable. Make some more gay jokes - it makes you look really cool. If I knew how to change my name on these boards, I definitely would change it to MrElectricJr now. You would actually be the one who sucks at nearly everything. What you do is after I introduce a guy like Marko Mitchell on these boards, all you do is go into your own post and say "Marko Mitchell is one of the best WRs in the WAC - he's really good." But then you try and say I suck, while I brought him up before you did. Get a life. Or keep making these posts, your little ignorant quips do brighten my day.
1. Canty is not a secret. He's the starting RE of the Cowboys 3-4, and considered their best DL player. He's not just going to just slip by. 2. Even if he was under the rader, Kenyon Coleman got 5 years 20 with 6 million in guarantees. Chris Kelsay got like 28 million. Odom. Laboy. Not big names, but they got paid. It's a different FA market the past couple years. 3. We probably can. I don't doubt that. I'd love it if we could, but the Cowboys aren't dumb. They know what value he has, because it's not easy to find a young 3-4 DE like him. If he hits the open market, I think he'd be our # 1 target.
Dude, every player that The GM talks about is a secret. He knew about Marko Mitchell before I did...eventhough I've seen him play in person.
I never said he was a secret, I'm just saying the Cowboys won't be able to afford to bring him back and he will look for the biggest contract that he can get on the open market. By under the radar I just meant that he won't be the #1 or even #2 DE available in FA if he becomes a FA and he won't garner an outrageous contract. I agree in that he should be our #1 target if he hits the open market, evidenced by having him be our main FA signing in my mock.
I am not going to argue this with you back and forth, but I will try and put what I have been saying in perspective. Scout.com has these CBs rated as the 10 Best Senior CBs in college football. 1) Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State 2) Mike Mickens, Cincy 3) Darius Butler, UConn 4) Victor Harris, VT 5) Alphonso Smith, Wake Forest 6) Domonique Johnson, Jackson State 7) Kevin Barnes, Maryland 8) Bruce Johnson, Miami 9) Keenan Lewis, Oregon State 10) Morgan Trent, Michigan Parson did not make the list, and Trent is rated as a 5th rounder. Add Juniors Vontae Davis, D.J. Moore, and Trevard Lindley who are all expected to come out, and other Juniors who could come out like Captain Munnerlyn, Jairus Byrd, Walter Thurmond III, and there is a ton of talent ranked better than Parson. Now I am not saying that we should live by these rankings, because even though Parson isn't on the list I know, barring injury, that he won't be available in the 5th or 6th round. But when you realize all of the talent at CB, and all of the talent at the rest of the positions entering the draft, it isn't too hard to imagine a small school CB like Mark Parson falling to the 4th round. Justin King was a big name talent from the 2008 draft who was a unanimously projected late 1st/early 2nd round CB. He fell to the 4th, and he went to a big name school (PSU), plus his measurables were even more impressive.
Munnerlyn's only value right now is as a return man. He's still very weak when playing zone. I bet he stays his senior year unless his grades are bad. Emmanuel Cook, the junior strong safety for the Gamecocks, is the real deal, and if he comes out early, he should be a late first, early second rounder. You have no idea who's ranked where until after the combine. Give it a rest until then, and then maybe some of your BS will make since, but I doubt it. I don't care who measures where and all of that...Rodgers-Cromartie went in the Top 15 out of Tennessee State. It doesn't matter where you come from. Go ahead and lecture me about is measurables and his 40 time, I was never high on that kid...but to make my point, it doesn't matter where the hell these guys go to school - it only takes one scout to see some potential.
