We have an injured Bubba Franks, a dumbass in Chris Baker, and a promising rookie in Keller...I would like to hear what all of you who said we dont need Gonzalez say now? Now that the Jets are exploring the TE market let me pose this question. How would you feel about the Jets heading into this game with Tony Gonzalez on the roster as opposed to him not being on the roster?
How would you feel about losing multiple picks for a guy who might be misused in this offense? If the Giants couldn't pull it off, then the Chiefs were asking way too much. The hindsight and what-if game keeps people up at night. Lets not play it. Tanny has done well with trades and FA pickups, plus - no one sees injuries coming, so injuries get a free pass in the land of "look at where we are at now."
i think if you bring in a HOF Calibre TE at any position you dont misuse the guy.... my arguement before was by getting favre the jets are saying we want to win now...so why not give favre a new lethal option... now we have no TE's to speak of... just saying...
For pass catching reasons.... no considering they hardly throw to the TE's For blocking reasons..... Yes because i cannot believe how much of a pussy Keller is at blocking
you dont think if tony gonzalez was on the roster they would call more plays for the TE... also do you think its possible that if we had a legit option favre would actually throw to his TE? because lets not forget they do run routes ya know....
Look...Gonzales is a great TE,but a) he's on the downside of his career. b) The Chiefs wanted a third rounder for him. For how much he makes and how much mileage there is on him, that's too steep a price. c) If you notice, there seems to be no cohesion in the Jets' offense. Schottenheimer is already misusing Favre. Do you really think he could do better with Gonzales? I think it's time the Jets and fans see what Keller can do. They traded up to get him, when they could have either improved their defense or found a playmaking WR. To me discussing the woulda couldas with Tony Gonzales is a waste of time.
my point here is that there is no freaking consistency with this team...you bring in a 39 year old QB and dont upgrade any of his weapons...it doesnt make any freaking sense... the only thing that makes sense of this all is that they merely did this to sell PSL's so what they are saying is...we want to win now...but lets see how our young guys develop...its stupid...
I wanted Tony Gonzalez. I think if he was in Baker's spot he catches that pass in OT and we win. I wanted another threat.
Then you might have wanted to rename your thread. Bringing Tony Gonzales in doesn't mean that the offense would be any more consistent. By the way..I agree with your point more or less. However the improvement of the weaponry should have taken place before Favre got here. Coles and Cotchery are good receivers, but they are possession receivers. The Jets need someone to stretch the field. Posters here mentioned that would have been Keller's role since he supossedly had "wide receivers speed". But the OC or head coach haven't come up with a way to use it properly.
We had 3 tightends! My gosh, if we were buffalo and didnt have any then you can complain. Baker is solid and we just fixed his contract, we spend a 1st round pick moving up for a tight end and Franks we brought in.. Even with Franks out we have 2 solid tight ends..
This thread is completely ridiculous, do you people sit around and think of things to complain about?
baker is solid?? baker fell as cost us a game...other than that i cant think of anything hes done...bubba franks is wayyy over the hill and keller is unproven... btw most teams have 3 tight ends..
no i'm just pointing out that the front office passed up on a move that could have changed this season...its not a complaint just something to point out...you know...like after the game people talk about things... well after this lack of move i would like to revisit it given our current te situation... asshole
what this offense is lacking through the air is a reliable option at TE....with that favre may not have to force the ball into double coverage but rather look at his te and get him the ball...that is the point that everyone seems to completely be missing because their heads are spinning over the fact that this was brought up again...
You see, if we'd complained more about the Favre deal Woody probably doesn't do it. But he read our theganggreen.com and saw how much it would help with the new PSLs!
You are assuming Schott and Co. will suddenly learn to play call. Adding a great TE dosen't mean they'll figure it out instantly. They made the best move possible, nothing. The staff can't call a game, it wouldn't matter if Joe Namath lined up with Kellen Winslow (Sr.), Jerry Rice, Randy Moss, Lynn Swan and Don Maynard.
