What is the conditional pick based on? Is it whether he makes the Pro Bowl or not? Leads the league in tackles? Makes the playoffs?

As long as he doesn't get injured we will for sure get a 3rd round pick. If he re-signs after this season we get a 2nd.

If he's resigned the second traded for shockey to the giants would go to us, and the giants would recieve a 2010 1st round pick.

The usual rule of thumb is that a year is worth a round. Maybe their using the wrong thumb, but thats the rule.

If I were a Giants fan I would pray Vilma resigned with the Saints too. Two 1st round picks give you a ton of options, and if they would really rather have a 2nd rounder in 2009 they can trade the Saints 1st rounder in 2010 to a team for their 2009 2nd.

    Many options.

The giants benefit if vilma resigns. Either way we'll take the 2nd.

Vilma has been looking like his old self too. can't see any reason why they wouldn't resign him.

I know that noone want?s to hear this (that?s probably the reason why it gets ignored everytime i post it), but Mickey Loomis said after the Shockey Deal in a Radio Interview, that the Vilma-Deal never involved the posibility of us getting their 2nd rounder.

If Vilma resignes, the Jets will give NO their 4th in exchange for their 3rd, that?s all.

It's still unclear what the deal is but I think German Jets Fan is most likely correct:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3270701

Vilma, was traded to the New Orleans Saints on Friday for a conditional fourth-round choice. The Jets could receive a second- or third-round pick in 2009 depending on how much Vilma plays and if he signs a contract extension.

    http://www.thejetsblog.com/2008/02/29/jonathan-vilma-trade-is-done-jets-receive-conditional-pick/

It’s official, the linebacker is heading to the New Orleans Saints for a conditional fourth-round pick in ‘09 that could become a third-rounder, depending on on how Vilma performs.

According to the New York Times, the Jets received a 2009 4th round pick from the Saints, that could become a third round pick if Vilma reaches certain incentives.

But what if he resigns after the draft? What if they franchise him?

His contract expires after the season, if they don´t resign him, he´ll be a FA. And if they Franchise him, they still gotta sign him to a contract.

The deal is undisclosed, so it´s not certain, but I guess we would also get that 3rd if they franchise him, which they have to do before the FA. And if they sign him to a multiyear deal, they also gotta do it before the FA, or he´ll sign elsewhere.
