unc, you made the statement that all of Favre's games except AZ were mediocre. I was simply saying that if the MIA game in which he threw 15-22 for 2 TD's no INT was mediocre, then by YOUR standards, Penny has been mediocre in EVERY one of his games. You cannot say that 15-22 for 2 TDs and 0 INTs is mediocre and then the next post say that Chad, who doesn't surpass these in ANY game is playing "great". If running TD's are credited to the QB along with rushing TD's then: Jets: 15 passing TD + 6 rushing TD's = +21 Favre Dolphins: 8 passing TD + 9 rushing TD's = +17 Penny When you argue that Penny is having an amazing year, and that Favre is playing horrible. Please stop skewing the numbers in your favor. Favre is playing UNDER his potential. Penny is playing OVER his expectations. But Penny is by no means a "great" or "Pro Bowl" QB this year.
And Miami's numebers are decieving too lest, we not count the 6 TD game against NE. Just saying, the games count. The points count. Fact remains, against SD, the offense put up virtually 30 points (call it garbage time all you want), but it was the defense that lost that game. The ints produced 14 points. Didn't SD score 48? Yeah, pretty sure the jets scored more then 14. I do agree, you are more talented this year. However, Talent alone doesn't mean wins. Look at GB: They have been very talented, according to Favre himself, for two seasons, and it was season 2 where it all came together. Point in case: The OL still stinks. Sure, maybe they can run block better, but just ask the coaching staff, and Favre, just how well that pass protection is doing. Blame it on the spread all you want, but when they are only rushing 4 against the spread with 5 blockers, Favre should not feel any pressure. Yet, he does. The D is up and down. Some games they look great, others they make guys like Thigpen look all pro. I didn't watch the jets D last year, but this seasont he best you can say about them is they are inconsistent. You just don't know what sort of defense your getting each week. (of course with Shotty, it appears not even the PLAYERS know what offense they are going to run). Why again does Shotty still have a job? Seriously. He has failed everywhere he has gone.
That doesn't make any sense. Basically you're assuming that if the QB doesn't throw a TD, the team doesn't score at all. Not even a field goal. Why do you think so? Aikman never threw for 30 TDs in a season in his whole career, despite being a great QB playing for a great offense. Was he holding his team back? No. Emmitt Smith was scoring all those touchdowns. If Miami was kicking lots of field goals, that would be evidence that Pennington's low total of TD passes is holding Miami scoring down. But the Dolphins aren't doing that. In fact, they are doing a very good job scoring TDs when they get in the red zone.
I have no opinion re Favre, because I haven't been watching him. But this post about Pennington is silly. Fair enough. He was downright bad. Mediocre? No, he was magnificent. Halfway through the third quarter Pennington was 17-20 for 226 and the score was 28-6. At that point the Dolphins stopped throwing. Brown's 62-yard run in garbage time, not to mention 4 TDs from the Wildcat formation, got all the headlines, but every Miami TD drive except the last consisted mostly of Pennington's passing. Hardly. 22/29, 228 yards. Along with Brown, he kept the Fins offense on the field and Rivers off. You are mistaken. Pennington + Houston turnovers were the only reason we were even in this game, as we couldn't run and our defense got its butt kicked. He led the offense to the go-ahead TD w/1:45 left, but the defense couldn't hold the lead. He never got back on the field. 19-25-284 Again, he was all the offense we had. Threw a lot of nice passes despite poor pass-blocking. On the other hand, he threw a pick-six in this game. Pretty much the only serious mistake he's made this year. (No fumbles, two other INTs, one a desperation pass against the Jets, the other batted straight up in the air by the intended receiver.) 24-35-295 Actually, he was the AFC offensive player of the week. 22-30-314. Again, all the offense we had. Perhaps realizing they couldn't run, the Fins threw on 16 of 26 first downs. at best, we'd be 1-6 without him. Given his durability problems, I don't blame the Jets for letting him go, but running him down like you are trying to do is ridiculous.
Trust me on this one...Even though Pennington has been playing well, by week 10, he will be back to his old self as teams will know how to play him better. Then the chad Henne era will start on week 15 when they are out of the playoffs.
A ridiculous argument. He's been in the league for years and years... there are no new secrets about Chad Pennington to be known and exploited. The truth has always been he's a solid QB with exceptional game management skills, weak arm, with a bad habit of getting banged up. When healthy and with some protection and a halfway decent running game he's going to keep his team in games. The Chad Henne era.... Chad Pennington wasn't even supposed to start again according to the opinions of so many around here. Now its wait till week 10... wait till week 15. Hopefully, by then, the Jets will still have a better record cause I'm going to have to shot glass some $#!*ing drain-o if he gets the Fins to the playoffs.
Fantasy #s do not dictate whether a game is good or not. I was satisfied w/ favre's performance since it was his first start for us BUT guys like you act like he played well b/c you look at fantasy #s. he threw a hail mary TD, that was pure luck- let's be honest and he had chances to ice the game and couldn not do it. It was a good game considering the circumstances of it being his 1st start for us only a few weeks after we acquired him but don't pretend like he played well w/o the circumstances. Chad is not playing over his potential at all, he's playing evry well which he always has when he's been healthy. Those TD #s are skewed by 1 game. That doesn't remove the rest of the year which has been mediocre to bad and Chad has only had a good ground game for 2 of their 7 games. Packerbacker: Our Ol is actually pretty good especially in pass protection, the problem is Favre is holding onto the ball too long. He's not decisive and that very well could be from his inexperience in this offense(I would expect that is the reason) but it's alarming when we do not see any progress. he had the ONE great game and he has gotten worse each week since. Our D has been very good all year, it's tough when your O and STs turn the ball over so consistently. How many times can we expect them to stop the opponent when we keep giving them great FP? Schotty has failed everywhere he has gone? This was his first OC job and he was great for us 2 yars ago and I think he gets a little too much blame this year. He's already back to his old self, as long as he's healthy he will play like his old self and that's great news for Miami and bad news for us.
The better question would be I wonder how many Jet fans cheered Chad incomplete passes when he was a Jet?
Through 7 games in 2007: Miami was averaging 20.6 pts/game. thru 7 games in 2008: Miami is averaging 20.7 pts/game. We can disagree about whether the QB should THROW TD's, but the job the job of the QB is to score points. I still have to say that this is yet again more proof that their D has stiffened up and that Porter has HUGE reason that they are better this year. I don't doubt that you will find excuses for why Penny can't score more points for the Dolphins than they were putting up last year at this time. Just remember how annoying you think it is when people make up excuses for Favre's INT's.
The job of the QB is to win, through 7 games last year Miami was 0-7, through 7 games this year they are 3-4. What you also fail to realize by looking at those scores is that alot of those points came in garbage time when they were trailing by large #s. -lost 37-20 to Dallas, is it a big deal they scored 20 in a game they lost by 17? -lost 31-28 to us but were down 31-13 w/ about 5 mins left and they scored some garbage time TDs. -lost 41-31 at Cle. They were down 24-3 and 27-10 at the half. Does it matter they scored some meaningles pts in the 2nd half? -lost 49-28 to NE. Trailed 42-7 at one point. Who cares about garbage time points? I know who cares, it's those who crow about waht a "great" game Favre played against SD even though allt he pts were scored in garbage time.
Instead of criticizing my posts maybe you should pay attention and you may learna thing or two about this game?
You mean like how there is "little doubt" that we would have a better record with Chad then we do now with Favre....and the proof is that YOU SAY SO! How is that learning anything? That's just an internet wahoo talking out of his ass. You don't hold any special credentials that makes your opinion of more value than anyone elses.
This is the root idea for many jets fans. They consider "his old self" to be the two seasons when he came back from two surgeries on his throwing arm. Like his whole career was defined by the player he became after he lost arm strength. When I reflect on Chads stay with us I remember his days before his shoulder was injured. He was a guy I had a lot of faith in. But for many Jet fans, the last year is all they remember.
So Favre is the only reason we lost to the Raiders and he deserves no credit for the game winning drive at the end of the Chiefs game? What, is this site being taken over the Bill O'Reily's of the sports world????. BLAME... BLAME.... BLAME!!!! He has to cut down on the interceptions, but everyone is piling on. The point is, we are scoring and the QB deserves a lot of credit. Sunday will be the tell tale sign if this TEAM is for real.
