Sometimes there's no difference in an INT and a punt other than the fact that's it's easier to blame a QB when he's throws an INT than when he can't convert and has to punt.
We aren't a very good run team though. I mean that's what we were trying to do at the beginning of the season. We couldn't even punch the ball in from the 1 on 3 straight tries, what running team can't manage that? TJ is simply not good enough to be the feature back on a run-first team. We just do not have the skill position players to be effective. The O-line also hasn't been distinguishing itself in the run game. It doesn't help that TJ is not explosive, what's his ypc now? I'll bet it's under 4. I believe it was 3.9 against the Chiefs, and they stink against the run.
Against Buf on Sunday Brown and Ricky averaged 2.8 YPC gaining just 59 yards. Brown has had just TWO good games all season- the NE and SD games, his other 5 games his highest rushing total was 50 yds and his total YPC is under 3. Ricky Williams is averaging 3.8 YPC and that includea his ONE good game where he averaged 6.1 YPC. Thomas Jones is averaging 4.4 YPC, Leon is averging 5.7. We have run the ball BETTER than Miami this year so that excuse is out the window. NYJ: 175 carries, 809 yds, 4.6 YPC Mia: 189 carries, 723 yds, 3.8 YPC
Those stats can be partially explained by looking at the run defenses both teams have faced. Throw out common opponents and you get: Maimi faced: Ravens - 1st Jets - 4th Bills - 13th Texans - 21st Jets faced: Dolphins - 15th Raiders - 26th Bengals - 28th Chiefs - 32nd I would trade Thomas Jones straight up for either Ricky Williams or Ronnie Brown.
For brown? yes but not Ricky . The point is you guys are saying Chad has this great running game which is helping him when he has only had 2 good games out of Ronnie and 1 out of Ricky so in fact the running game hasn't been good while ours has been better yet Favre has been much worse than Favre.
Chad has a running game that is scaring opposing teams so much that they are staying up nights trying to defend it. I have seen every pass for medium to long yardage he's had and for the majority of them the safeties are up near the LOS. Nobody is scared enough of our running game to defend it that closely when Jones is in there, so we hardly ever have both safeties playing up to the line. Teams are scared of Favre's arm, so they never give him room over the top.
Why is Chad's running game scaring people and ours isn't when ours has been more successful? obviously no one is scared about our passing game so why have we run it so well w/o good passing game? When Miami came back against us they did it throwing not running, their ground game didn't sacre me for a second in that game.
Obviously? Look at the double-coverage our receivers get versus the type that the Phins get. Teams are as scared of Chad's feeble arm as they are of Thomas Jones' chicken legs. As far as the last comment, shame on you, junc. Miami knew we had a stout running defense and had to attack through the air. And our weak mid-field passing defense enabled them to.
I'm still wondering what happened to the "8 in the box" reasoning as to why teams can't run the ball with Chad at QB. By that logic they should be backing way off to open up running lanes for us now with Favre. Unless that was all total nonsense, that is.
I haven't paid much attention to what the opposing safties are doing, but I get the feeling that if the other team were playing prevent defense from the first snap of the game Schottenheimer would try to trick them by passing the ball instead of running.
In week 1 before we played a game Miami knew we had a stout running game? So that means they wouldn't try to play to their strenth at all? They did try to run but we stopped them then Chad tore us up in the 4th almost leading them to the W. If Coles and Cotch are always double covered why isn't he killing D's w/ passes to Stuckey, Smith, the backs and TEs? That would bea ood thing for our O if those TWO WRs were being double covered as that only leaves 7 more defenders and assuming they rush 3-4 that only leaves 3-4 defenders for our other receivers so somebody must be open, right?
Those saying wins are what matters are forgetting Miami has not played Oakland, KC, and Cinn yet. They did beat Buffalo last week though. If Farve plays a mistake free game and throws for 300+ yards and wins in Buffalo I will be satisfied.
i think even if he threw for 500 yards and 10 TDs you wouldn't be satisfied. or you'd somehow attribute to our "amazing" run game that teams apparently fear.
Miami can actually run when it matters. They have 9 Rushing TD's to our 6. Not to mention their opposing teams are much more afraid of them running than us. The only games where we ran for a lot of yards were the last two games but in those games we passed to open up the run, not the opposite.
Yes I agree. I put the 300 yards thing in because Chad did it against them and this is a Chad - BF thread. But ya - just cut down on the mistakes. For the love of all thats green.
