The Giants at this point last year weren't very good either. Seemed to work out pretty decent for them.

Sometimes the ball bounces your way, sometimes it doesn't. Against AZ, it did. Today, it didn't...those games are GOING TO HAPPEN. And they STILL won..

    This is the NFL.

Who would have thought the Rams would have absolutely gashed the Cowboys last week? Any given Sunday...even if they are the Chiefs.

You guys should be happy being 4-3 and playing the, suddenly-look-human Bills next week.

Yes, expectations were higher going into this season no question. It's the way we're playing though, and it's the same pattern we saw last year, and defensively the year before that. We have the talent, but the players aren't being put into positions to make plays. The play calling continues to be cute rather than effective. Some teams put a stamp on their game like the Steelers are a tough-nosed smash mouth football team. Every game it seems like the coaches come up with a different concept of the team, and not even one that fits the opponents. When you come out passing every down against the worse rushing defense in the league (which you are rushing succesfully against), it's just mind-blowing.

I wouldn't mind winning close games if there was genuinely good play on both sides, but teams that the rest of the league are hammering away shouldn't be taking you to the wire every week if you are a good team. It's aggravating when we attempt to keep both teams in the game and refuse to show any kind of killer instinct. We always have to try and be smarter than the other team rather than just playing our game. Or using a 3 man rush, when if fails week in and week out. It's extremely aggravating.

The Giants at this point were what, 5-2? That's quite a bit better, even if you only think it's a game difference. 2 losses out of 7 means you're a pretty good team. 3 losses out of 7 where you've lose to the Raiders and some other questionable teams and your wins are mostly struggles against the dregs of the NFL though? That's cause for concern. The Giants were 6-2, does anybody feel confident that we can get to 5-3 even?

You play who you play. AFC east plays the West and the Awful NFC West.

    Buffalo is 5-2

    Wins against:

    Seattle (2-5)
    Jax (3-4)(although pretty tough schedule)
    Oakland (jets lost)
    StL (2-5) (2-5)
    SD (jets lost)(3-5)

    Losses:

    Az (jeats beat)(4-3)
    Mia (jets beat)(3-4)

Hmmm? Miami has beaten both New England and Buffalo so we are the only AFC East team with a win over the fish.

Arizona is a few plays away from having 1 loss (that being us). They led the entire game today and lost in the last few moments at Washington, they also beat up on the Cowboys without Boldin when they were healthy and non of this Pac Man distraction. Oh and they kicked the everloving shit out of the Bills also without Boldin.

KC was a dropped TD pass by Bowe away from taking the cheats into OT other than that they suck....

    Cinci sucks as well.....

I'll give you the Raiders debacle but that like the Pats game falls on the coaching staff for awful disgusting game plans.

Essentially if Mangini, Schott and Sutton could collectivley pull their heads out of their asses this team could be 6-1.

Please do not compare the talent last year to this year. W/ Chad this year(especially the way he is playing) we'd be at woprst 5-2 and likely 6-1. Favre is absolutely KILLING us.

We would be 5-2 at worst and likely would have beaten NE in week 2 to be 6-1. I live on Planet reality where alot of the favre lovers do not. He's absolutely killing us week after week while Chad is playing excellent football elading a team w/ half the talent to a record just 1 game worse than we have.

nyjunc you have to be kidding me....short memory?6 td's ring any bells? hall of fame QB maybe the best ever - 2 comeback drives the last two weeks? The INT's have been poor - he's made some bad, bad decisions. I agree with the original post. It seems some people do just want to complain. Sure point out where we went wrong - we got away with one and we should have been better. But the attitude and magnitude is what gets me! The people who lamented our 4-12 record of last season: many are pissed at 4-3 now; The people who constantly, constantly ripped Chad for his 'noodle' arm and slow release and inability to bring us from behind - people who said he wasn't starting quality in this league and celebrated when he was gone: now saying we'd be in a better position with him in there. People who criticised last year's running game (it deserved it): many of whom are complaining he goes down too easily when he is at 4.4 YPC and 4 rush TD's compared to 1 last year. People who said to calm the expectations and not get over excited when Favre, Faneca, Woody, Jenkins etc were brought in are now acting as if we were superbowl shoe-ins???

I don't mind reasoned and balanced criticism but the magnitude of it on here sometimes is quite phenominal and pretty sad really. I'm just happy that after 7 games we're well in the hunt and we're able to watch a team and offence that (accepting recent poor performances) is endlessly more exciting and just better than that of last year...well that's what I think. Let's get some perspective guys...I know many of you are used to it and thanks for your loyalty but 'continually coming out of bars angered after a win' or the guy that said he had quit supporting the Jets at halftime as a result of what we allowed Thigpen to do? Come on fellas...don't forget that there were a large number of people on the other sideline today and on that field in red and white playing for respect, for their dignity and pride, for their jobs and for their careers (certainly in the case of thigpen) it frustrated me sure but you've gotta take a step back and think at some stage. The other guys get paid too remember!

I like how our wins are still knocked...who'd the Giants beat to be 5-2? 2 of those wins were the dominant 2007 49ers and Falcons.

Giants fans were so confident about their team last year that they wanted their QB benched and their coaches fired last year.

I don't understand how people can be so upset when we are 1 game behind the division leader. What more can you ask for after a 4-12 season. Yes, I understand we had some big free agent signings but that doesn't necessarily translate into SB contender - if it did, then every team would spend a boat load in the offseason.

Yeah, there are areas that we need to improve on if we wanna make the playoffs, but that goes for 3 quarters of the league too.

The whole idea behind being a fan of a team is HOPE.

At 4-3, there's hope for making the playoffs, there's hope in winning the division - which means there's hope in getting to a Superbowl - hope in winning a Superbowl.

Last year at this point in the season we were 1-6 which equalled no HOPE.

It's hard to win in this league, period.

4-3...Lets kick some ass in Buffalo...5-3

So 6 TDs in one game erases the rest of his season which has been awful? For fun let's removed his 6 TD game and look at the #s:

    137-201, 1322 yds, 9 TDs, 10 INTs

Last year has NOTHING to do w/ this year. Last year we had a lack of talent alongt he lines, this year we do not. We SHOULD be 5-1 w/ the sched we have played instead we are 4-3 and BARELY 4-3. Look at the last 3 weeks which most people assumed would be 3 easy wins, we struggle w/ Cincy into the 4th qtr, we lose at Oakland and we need a TD in the final minute to beat KC and in those 3 games Favre has thrown 3 TDs and 7 INTs. Favre has been AWFUL and is costing us a chance at a really good season. Am I giving up on him? No, I still hold out hope that he can turn it around but w/ each passing week he continues to look poor outside of ONE game this year.

Early in the season I gave him a pass b/c he needed time to adjust, the Cards game showed he had enough time. I don't expect 6 TD games but I expect our O tos core alot more than they have w/ all the opportunities they ahve and the caliber of opponent we have been playing. The last 2 weeks Favre has been outplayed by jamarcus Russell and Tyler Thigepn, FAVRE has looked like the rookie or 2nd yr QB and he ahs single handedly kept inferior opponents in games.

I am tired of seeing the excuses for Favre, let's all pretend Chad is still our QB and hold him to the same standard- in reality favre should be held to a higher standard since he is a future HOfer but we keep giving him a pass as he sabotages our season. I HOPE to look back on these posts as a blip and laugh about them later in the yar whn he's playing well and our team is playing well but right now we stink and he's the chief culprit.

We should be at worst tied for the div lead if not a game ahead. W/ the weak sched we've had there's no reason we should only be 4-3. If we beat Buf then alot will be forgiven but if we play up there like we have the last 3 weeks there's no chance we beat the Bills.

Thanks for the clarifications. As I wrote, I just started following the Jets this season, so I do not know how they have played in the past. If this is a reoccurring pattern with the team, then it is a bit of a concern. What do you think was different a couple of seasons ago when the Jets put together a good season (I think it was Mangini's first season)?

Agreed, but the bottom line is we're not.

My point is, although there is a sense that the team is underachieving, we're still in the race. I'm all for analyzing where they need to improve and whatnot but some people on here are going off the deep end a little prematurely. It all comes down to how people view things...

The glass if half full or the glass if half empty.

Too many people here seem to be looking at it half empty in my opinion.

God damn I wanna beat Buf so bad!!!!

We have every right to complain about this team. If you want to use the argument that we are better then last year, that ain't gonna fly in my book. We spent a shit load of money, and took another year away from grooming our QB of the future, who ever he may be. Our super aquisitions are a year older, and don't look at all super.
This team is a joke. This franchise is a joke. It can never win the games it's supposed to win, or pull one out that it's not. I'm so disgusted with this Crap we put out on the field. What a waste.

Playing for a piece of 1st place next week. That's the bottom line. Who knows, maybe this team plays down to the opponents level. We shall see. Just be relieved we won and move on, I am.
