The Play Calling is Aweful. Period. Nothing Else to Say. Does that mean you fire the entire coaching staff? Maybe....
Question: What exactly do you guys know about NFL playcalling and strategy to call ours bad? Follow up question: Do you have an example of good play calling? Another follow up question: What determines good/bad playcalling? One more: What exactly do you know about the strengths/weaknesses of our opponents that the coaching staff missed? For example, Raiderjoe, a Raiders fan, pointed out that many teams went to the spread against the Raiders. We did and got criticized for that, and then in turn got criticized for running the ball too much. What factors were missed here?
Taking what the defense gives you and breaking them for it. LW's run up the gut. See above.... 41 passes, 24 runs on the worst rushing defense in the National Football League. You took Jeaux's advice? Why do you ask all the questions yet never criticize or never seem to have answer?
I think Mangini could last 10 years in this league if he had a good OC to handle the offense for him. The problem is, he doesn't have a good OC and he doesn't understand that. Mangini simply isn't good at hiring assistant coaches. Westhoff was good, but he inherited him. Callahan is good, but even Mangini admits that was Tannenbaum's idea. The one ability which can take a head coach the farthest in this league is the ability to spot talented assistant coaches, many HCs build their careers off of that. Look at Parcells, every year he finds good people to hire. But Mangy doesn't have this ability, he seems to be magnetically attracted to hiring dorks.
Which can be done...in the NFL...just like that? Never been done/tried before? Yea, and all it resulted it in was 400+ yards of offense, 28 points, and a win. Dumb fuck coaches. The sick part is that half of our TD's came on running plays, and our main two RBs ran for 121 yards on 17 carries. I can't believe you're breaking fucking...football down into..."they're ranked last in the run after 7 weeks, so we'll run on them all game"...TF that's BEGGING to fall into a trap...and MANGINI'S the one not adjusting? That wasn't advice...he just told us how other teams played the Raiders beforehand. I don't do all that? Damn, I must suck then. I'll join the mob when I actually feel like it's time to join the mob...which ain't now. Most of the complaints are just straight up noise...there's more good than bad going on right now if people would just open their fuckin eyes. Those were some real vague answers btw...especially the Jeaux one.
This team should be able to put up 35+ points against a team like the Chiefs and hold an offense as awful as theirs to under 14. The fact that this game was as close it was, with a supposedly healthy roster of "pro-bowl" type FAs, speaks to a failure somewhere.
dude, youre arguing that the score and current situation in a given game doesnt influence play calling'?
Holy shit...how dominant do you think this team is supposed to be? If we were as good as most seem to think we should be *right now,* we'd be the unquestioned best team in the league. t out The main thoughts I have right now: 1. We're 4-3, and people are complaining. We just matched our win total from last season and we haven't played fucking half the season. Complaining about minute bullshit and claiming to *know* that they'll remain long term problems isn't going to change that. 2. This is a good team that can be alot better. Considering we signed and drafted key pieces like Lowery, Pace, Jenkins, and Faneca just last year, I expect adjustments to be made over the long term. I mean shit, our fucking QB arrived a month before the season started. All of 39 years old and coming out of semi/fake retirement. He arrives in a place where the fans expect him to be as godlike for us as he was for the Packers. I don't hold him to those expectations, and I doubt the coaching staff does. He's been playing fine. The problems lay just as much on the players, especially on offense, as it does on the coaching staff. More than anything else, penalties killed us in the Pats game. That Cotchery 40 yard pass was a game changing type play, instead it got called back. Is that an excuse? I guess to the concrete minded, sure. To me it's just a factor in an experiment I won't see the results of for another what...9 weeks? Personally, I think Mangini, Tanny, and yes even the dreaded Shotty are smart enough to figure it out along with the players. My plan is to sit back and chill. This is a football team that has not played it's best football yet, and it's still a fine 4-3. Since I don't know anything, I'm not going to pretend I do and just enjoying watch my football team play football.
Clearly Mangini played to win the game. Which was a 28-24 result. Gosh I cannot believe how average this team is... But of course they'll find a way to beat Buffalo and shock us all, lol.
hahaha... i see this done to so many people, but when its done to you for once, the perspective changes. Good stuff. Yes, I've seen second half adjustments made with ease... have you watched teams play the Jets this season, they sure do adjust to Bob Sutton's gameplans in half #2. LW ran 3 times today. Worked Well didn't it? Maybe it should be done more... hmmm Imagine what the score could have been with more positive runs and less incompletions. Perhaps one less interception and a more open passing game??? These I'm not being complicated with my thoughts. These are philosophies that have worked since the game was born. If you don't want to join the Mob, fine. Thats actually a good thing. This is the first week that I've wanted anyone else but Sutton fired. I liked Mangini, but no more. These last two weeks have made me a darksider. This team, with the individual talent on it, should play better against shit opponents. Its not the players, its the overall concept - The last QB to win it all for the Jets said that today.
How do i say this nicely? Start watching another sport! Maybe you will find your niche there! Seriously dude, whenever i am feeling down can i come to you for the crack ure smoking.? I mean it says ure a member thats "totally addicted." How the F could someone be on this site so much and be mentally retarded when it comes to football? Favre is playing fine? I stopped reading your post there, and in 10 other places too. Get a FUCKING BRAIN loser! And stop wasting your life on this board b/c it clearly isnt helping your football knowledge.
Hey... no point in personal attacks. Ok? He's entitled to his opinion just as much as you are entitled to yours. hmy:
I've never seen so many shotguns used against the worst Run D in the league. This is the same shit i used to do when i was 10 playing Madden '98. No gameplan, just go into shotgun every down cuz having 4 WR's is awesome!
this board clearly isn't helping your anger problems either. maybe you should go back to that shrink you were seeing..
I'd hate to speculate but 2 of the better coordinators (who should never ever ever get another head coaching job) in all likelihood will be fired shortly or at seasons end. Those of course being Marvin Lewis and Norv Turner (who is the Rasputin of NFL head coaches) He must have pictures of every owner in the league, how this joke continues to get head coaching jobs is beyond belief. Now I wouldn't let Turner anywhere near the head coach but he is clearly one of the greatest offensive coordinators in the league. As for Lewis his track record speaks for itself as a DC as well.
Recently I read somewhere that experience has shown that when a former player can succeed as a coordinator he usually succeeds as a head coach, but when a non-player who succeeds as a coordinator his potential as a head coach is still a mystery, due to things like leadership and understanding player psychology.
I like, Mangini. With that said... I want to be a fan of a consistently successful football team. Whatever it takes to make that happen, I'm all for. If our HC isn't capable of turning this ship around, then so be it. I'm still wondering why he kept the coordinators that he did for this season, is there really nobody else better?
Once again the real culprit gets a pass- our strong armed QB. That's the reason we are throwingso much and he's been putrid keeping awful teams in games, it cost us once and nearly 2-3 times.
What is this? Did I slip into your trap? That...explains it. So what exactly makes you think it won't? Thats what I don't get...your whole thing is based on treating your assumptions and opinions like fact. Mostly done with hindsight as the #1 form of support. I mean you've somehow twisted them giving the ball to Leon yesterday into a bad thing. So...whaddo you want? You want them to go back in time? lol...it's football...thats all I have to say to this.
