"Quick Mock Draft for 2009" 1. I'd like to take a gamebreaker in Round 1...A WR like Jeremy Maclin MIZZOU, Michael Crabtree TTU, or Darrius Heyward-Bey MARYLAND would be nice, but so would a running back like Knowshon Moreno UGA. 2. HOPEFULLY, all of the 3-4 teams pass on Terrance "Mount" Cody 'BAMA and he falls into the Jets' lap in Round 2...but it's not likely that he falls out of Round 1. I'm very high on HUGE LSU guard Herman Johnson. If he's the best offensive lineman available, he'd be a solid pick. 3. Most likely lost in the Favre trade. 4. This running back class is deep, so if we don't go RB in the first round, I'd like to see a complete back like Nebraska's Marlon Lucky taken. He's my sleeper in this year's draft. A fall back option would be a forgotten linebacker like South Carolina's Jasper Brinkley. Injuries and an off year should push this 3-4 stud down the draft boards. 5. Linebackers like Pitt's Scott McKillop and Eastern Michigan's Daniel Holtzclaw would be steals here, but they most likely won't be around. Round 5 is a good time to start picking up depth players. I'd go best offensive tackle or defensive lineman available: OT Augustus Parrish from Kent State and DT/DE Dorell Scott from Clemson would be solid depth picks. 6. BPA - maybe a project QB - Fresno's Tommy Brandstater is a 3 year starter that's played with 3 OCs in 3 years. He's a smart kid with good size and a strong arm. Cal's Nate Longshore might be one of those guys that's a better pro than college player. That's a big IF though. 7. Project WR Ramses Barden from a small West Coast school called Cal Poly - home of the hated Willie McGinest - Barden is 6'6 230 with big time numbers: 18 TDs with almost 1500 yards last season. This season he has over 150 yards receiver and at least 2 TDs in 3 of 5 games. He's on pace for 1000 plus yards and at least 15 TDs barring injury.
LOL at the whole thing!! if you were going to spite me at least make it good  1) We have bigger needs than WR and RB to be addressed in Rd 1. Why don't you actually name one name instead of a bunch of people lol. 2) IF Terrance Cody declares he will be taken in Rd 1. He likely won't declare because he is out 2-3 weeks and will need more recuperation time. This pick doesn't happen. Why don't you make this one Sam Bradford? I'm sure he'll be here in the 2nd round too....Herman Johnson doesn't play to his size all of the time and our RG is solid - we have bigger needs. 3) you might have gotten this one right! bravo. 4) RB or LB - because you can choose like this when you draft. pick a name, bum. at the thought of Brinkley falling to the 4th. Marlon Lucky is not the answer at RB. 5) more linebackers? wait no, more OL! wait no, more DL! make up your mind. Dorell Scott is a 4-3 NT. McKillop and Holtzclaw won't be here in the 5th. So far you are making the most unrealistic mock draft I may have ever seen... 6) Yes, because the answer at QB is a project! Wow. I'm glad you're not General Manager of the Jets. 7) Ramses Barden will not make it past the 5th round. I have him rated right with Marko Mitchell. Not happening. So not only did you actually make a pick in any round, but you threw a bunch of players in rounds where they would never be. the only thing that you spited was yourself sir. thanks for the laughs tho - much appreciated. :shit:
Uhh, didn't you give us a safety in your mock?? It's WAAAY to early to know where somebody will be picked At this point last year Andre Woodson was among the best QB prospects in the country and was a sure fire 1st round pick, he ended up going in round 6. It's way to early mocks anyway. We don't even know what our biggest needs are yet.
HEY! ---- where the hell is our 2nd/3rd round draft choice for Vilma & the 4th rounder we get for Pete Kendall? Those should all be coming due in the 2009 draft.
Yes because FS is one of our bigger needs. Cody is a rare 3-4 NT prospect. If he declares he will be taken in the first round, otherwise he won't declare because he will be one of the first DTs if not one of the first players taken in the 2010 draft.
ok you are suggesting that we address a depth issue in the first round...thats pretty bad I think we have depth at both corner and saftey it seems silly to add to that that early
How can anyone claim to know what they are talking about leading to the 09' draft? So much time until we get there, so, how about you hold your laughter for something that you really are certain of. EDIT: It is proven that you don't go for need first in the draft, you go after the best player available, especially in the early rounds. If that player just happens to match need/best player available, then bravo, your team just got really lucky and nailed two birds with one stone. Your criticism seems a little off base, sir.
True...but Branch went in the early second instead. Personally, I think Cody stays for his senior year. He's too raw to be a first round pick right now, but if he stays he could be a top 15 pick easy.
IF he comes out this year, the only teams that could take him in Round 1 are San Diego (aging Jamal Williams), New England (Wilfork), and the Jets. Dallas doesn't have a first round pick, and the Pats will mostly like be picking too high to take a depth NT in Cody. San Diego is really the only other 3-4 team that is has use for Cody. They could develop him under Jamal Williams, just the Jets could do under Kris Jenkins. I'd much rather see a wide out taken in Round 1 this year, but if we have a late first rounder, like somewhere in the 20s, I wouldn't mind the risky pick on Cody. With all of our extra picks this year, we'll have a lot of fire power to move around in the 2nd and 3rd rounds...getting a running back there shouldn't be a problem.
We don't need to move around to get a RB - very good RBs will be available in Rds 3-4 because of the lack of need for RBs right now in the league. Also, Alan Branch is a lazy bum with potential - his laziness and crap work ethic dropped him to Rd 2.
He's a giant run stuffing DT...there'll be teams looking for him. The Ravens? The Steelers? Teams that don't run the 3-4? The Bengals, Rams, Seahawks, and basically any other team...I even forgot Cleveland in the 3-4 teams. Lots of teams could do this. The Steelers...Ravens...yea I just said this though. Me either. Well with Taylor, Brace, Raji, and a bunch of other big dudes...we could also pass on Cody. Depends on what they want.
The Steelers and Ravens both play the 4-3 now. Casey Hampton and Haloti Ngata hold down their positions respectively, but those lines would be incredibly scary if Cody was paired with either of those guys. I just think most 4-3 teams will go with someone that fits the system like Peria Jerry of Ole Miss or Sen'Derrick Marks of Auburn -- Lighter, quicker DTs that can penetrate and get a pass rush. Terrance Taylor could also be a smarter choice in the 4-3. Terrence Cody is a freak. He's a huge NT at 365, and he's got wheels for a big guy. It would be smart for any team to take him, but 4-3 teams might pass. Seattle is a bad team that desperately needs a receiver. They'll take Crabtree or Maclin with their Top 5 choice. Cincy has so many holes on their offense that it will be hard for them to take Cody. They will also be in need of a wideout. Housh will bolt for free agency and Ocho Cinco could follow. Benson could be the answer at running back, but I doubt it. The Bengals could take Moreno, Maclin, Crabtree, or Wells with their first pick. ...and Cleveland traded for Shaun "Big Baby" Rodgers and Corey Williams. They most likely won't be going DT in Round 1 either. I could see Cleveland going after a corner to play opposite Eric Wright. Vontae Davis is a huge possibility for the Browns.
Not that he doesn't know what he's talking about, but I doubt that seeing as I've worked with and as a scout.
What players were involved when you scouted/worked with this scout? ...and you can doubt me all you want, but the College to the NFL is a lot different than High School to College. You're countless posts of incredibly ridiculous, Madden-like trades make you seem like you know a lot less then you give yourself credit for.
1) Steelers are still a 3-4 team. Cody in the 4-3 would like Dewayne Robertson in the 3-4 = out of place. 4-3 NTs need to get after the passer as well as stuff the run; 3-4 NTs need to be "space-eaters" who stuff the run making them more one dimensional. Casey Hampton in 8 years has 4.5 sacks, yet is a probowl NT. 2) Those are all 4-3 DTs for the reason above. 3) 4-3 teams would be smart to pass on him, 3-4 teams would be wise to draft him (if they need a starting NT). He does have injury concerns though due to his weight and his back. 4) I agree with you that Seattle would be wise to go WR in the first round. The Bengals won't likely go WR in the first round though. They will probably go with either RB or DT. They have Chatman, Henry, and the Ocho will probably be there next year against his will..again. 5) Most definitely will not be going for a DT in Rd 1. CB and RB are the two 1st round targets for them even though a RB can be had later on. If they can get Vontae they are lucky, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them taking Chris Wells who is a younger, better version of Jamal Lewis.
1. The Steelers are trying to change into a 4-3 team. Mike Tomlin is a Cover 2 guru. He's gradually building Pittsburgh into a team that he wants. He kept Dick Lebeau as the DC because the players liked him. Once Tomlin has the chance to switch back to the Cover 2 4-3, he will. Cody is a rare defensive tackle prospect. He has the ability to play in both styles of 3-4 and 4-3. Even though Cody is 6'5 365, he still has moves and he can get into the backfield. He's all over the place. As for 3 through 5, you basically re-posted what I said earlier...but you added some of your idiotic remarks to it. You still didn't answer my question about "scouting".
