Just as I thought he did. The Jets could be without Coles and Cotchery Sunday! hmy: http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2008/10/jets_coles_and_smith_suffer_co.html Jets coach Eric Mangini treats injuries like nuclear secrets but he actually uttered the ``C'' word today during his daily news conference. Us beat guys couldn't believe what we heard. Mangini confirmed that both wide receiver Laveranues Coles and safety Eric Smith sustained concussions in last Sunday's 16-13 overtime loss to the Raiders. On the injury report, he has them listed as having a ``head'' injury. Coles was injured in the fourth quarter but returned to the game. It's unclear when Smith was injured but he didn't return. For Coles, it's his third concussion in 22 months. Smith's situation is even more disconcerting. He suffered his second concussion in three weeks. Coles, who missed a game last season with the concussion and suffered a concussion in a 2006 game, is expected to play vs. the Chiefs. Each time the Jets refused to say he had suffered a concussion. Today, Coles refused to discuss his health, saying he would be fined. Smith, who suffered a concussion when he hit Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin, may sit out vs. the Chiefs. Abram Elam worked with the first-team today. With both Coles and Jerricho Cotchery (leg) hurting, look for the Jets to activate the speedy David Clowney, who was the team's leading receiver in the preseason before suffering a broken collar bone. He has yet to be activated this season.
Sad to see another Jets receiver heading down this path to the end of his career. This will probably be his last season.
( look for the Jets to activate the speedy David Clowney...from article above )It's about time. I want to see what Clowney can do. Stuckey, Clowney, Smith, Coles, and hopefully Keller will be considered for this next weeks game to be Favre's targets.
My question is, "Why is Brad Smith our number 3 WR?" If Cotch has to sit I would really rather see Stucky. He catches everything that is thrown to him and he is dangerous in open space.
I feel bad for Coles, he is a warrior. What if the Jets never traded Santana Moss for Coles though? Think of Favre to Moss.  Oh well.
Coles has 2-3 yrs left in him. He will be on the field this week. The article mentions Coles said he was "fine", and all reports expect him to be on the field. He even came back in the game last week and if you remember when the hit occurred he was giving the catch signal with his arms which to me demonstrated he knew "where he was and what the game scenario was". I knew all week we were headed this way, but what has yet to come out is that this will be called a "mild" concussion before all is said and done. Guys with real concussion do not participate even in a limited fashion during the week heading up to the game after the concussion occurred.
Laveranues is a great player and a tough one. So he speaks his mind, big deal. I wish he could finish out his contract healthy.
That was just more nonsense from the Chad haters here. Ken O'Brien was Al Toon's QB and he had the strongest arm in the history of the team.
Lack of arm strength isn't the only factor that can put a wideout in danger, Vinny had a strong arm and he was responsible for a number of Chrebet's concussions. Because he was inaccurate.
Accuracy is probably a bigger factor. A high ball or one behind you will get you killed more often than a slow ball.
I Guess it was the play where he got up with a wad of grass in his helmet. Guys a warrior. We need one of the Receivers out there sunday. Cotch should be okay to go.
