-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jets | Clowney not listed on injury report Wed, 22 Oct 2008 17:15:46 -0700 Dan Leberfeld, of Jets Confidential, reports New York Jets WR David Clowney (collarbone) is not listed on the team's injury report and is expected to return Week 8.
You guys assume that Mangina will create the correct game plan to use this kids talent and we all know how his game planning has been as of late.
I don't have great expectations that Clowney will have an impact. Stuckey and Smith haven't contributed much from the 3rd and 4th receiver spots and Clwoney is not a very big upgrade. I do beleive that part of the problem is that Schotty and/or Favre are failing to get tnhese guys more involved.
I am curbing my expectations for Clowney and his long ball catching expertise for two reasons: 1) Favre does not appear to have time to throw deep, the line is not holding up and forming a pocket long enough for a receiver to get down field. Favre consistently has to scramble a bit to "buy" time if he is to throw the ball downfield. 2) Schotty is calling all short passes, slants to Coles or Cotch, quick hitches etc. No deep posts. Probably because of #1, lack of protection. The line seems to run block well lately but the last two weeks especially Favre has gotten killed back there, if you disagree you are blind. You can even say he took a beating in SD and against NE. Most of the games he has been jacked up most times he drops back, not good for the aging one.
Last week was the only game where he was consistently getting hit. He has had a good amount of time for the majority of the season.
I'd love to see Favre start throwing it deep on a regular basis. He sure has the arm for it. But for some reason Schotty is stuck in the Chad Pennington dink-and-dunk offense. His offense keeps most of Favre's throws short. I can't understand why we have a great talent like Favre and don't use him to the fullest extent.
The grumblings have implied that Keller isn't getting more reps because he isn't a good blocker yet. They didn't draft him to block, so if this is the coaches' decisions, then it's just terrible. I haven't heard Mangini and Co say anything yet, so it's probably just speculation. I don't know, maybe they feel he's not ready to make plays yet. I guess they won't know until they give him a chance throughout an entire game, not 3 series. I never understood that. If you're trying to assess a guy's play, then let him play. It doesn't matter the position, players need to get into the rhythm of the game. IMO, that's the most judicious way to evaluate.
Yep, time to dial up the long-ball to Krusty the Clowney. Hopefully, Favre can still throw it farther than Chadwick; based on the media speculation I was led to believe that because Brett sucked last week, that must mean he's injured.
Clowney played well in the preseason before he got injured. I am looking forward to seeing him in some real game action. GO JETS!
I want Stuckey to start for Cotch, and have Cotch and Clowney split time. They both are injured and both should not risk injury playing full time yet. On the rare occasion that we do throw past 10 yards, Clowney should be a legitimate deep threar and be able to haul it in.
Keller is a rookie tight end. Tight end isn't a glamour position, and rookie receivers are rarely consistent. I wasn't completely in favor of the pick when we made it, but I still think Keller is going to end up being a good player for us, and a matchup problem, and we might see that start late this season.
hey i miss chad pennington!!! least he used the TE's around goaline and even during Drives.. they should be trying to get keller the ball as much as possible he is the future for the jets
