This draft assumes the following: +Jets miss playoffs, lose a 3rd for the Favre Trade +Lowery stays at CB +Thomas Jones and Leon Washington hold down the RB position +One of these 3 do not declare for the draft: Matt Stafford, Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy. 1) Malcolm Jenkins/Taylor Mays/William Moore, FS Whichever one of these guys is available at our pick. 2) Brandon Spikes, ILB Perfect ILB for the 3-4 defense - hard hitter, great tackler, good in coverage 3) lost to Favre trade 4) Pannel Egboh, DE 6'6, 285 lbs, 4.89 40 yard dash. 6 sacks last year, great for the 3-4 DE spot. 5) Marko Mitchell, WR 6'4, 210 lbs, 4.40 40 yard dash. Nevada doesn't play top competition which might have a little do with his production (53 receptions, 1,129 receiving yards, 8 TDs in 2007). He is doing very well in 2008. I like his upside a lot, he has great speed and great hands for a big guy. 6) Paul Fanaika, OG Crushing run blocker with mountainous size (6'6, 340 lbs) - helped all ASU backs have 5+ ypc. Great for depth at either guard position - can be groomed to start potentially down the line. 7) Nader Abdallah, NT A monstrous run-stuffing 6'5, 310 lbs NT. Could stand to add a little weight; nice depth at NT in the 3-4. Looking ahead to 2010: 1) The 1 QB from the 3 mentioned before (probably McCoy). We need a franchise QB and probably won't be able to pick one up in the 2009 draft. If all 3 declare for the 2009 draft we give up our 2010 1st and 2nd to get him - nothing is more important than a franchise QB. Example = Atlanta. 2) Brandon Minor, RB This is probably early for Minor but after watching him play this season he gives more effort than RB in the country - and I hate Michigan - so this means a lot coming from me. He looked untouchable in between the tackles against my PSU (my team). Minor + LW = potent combo 3) AJ Wallace, CB 6'1, 190 lbs, 4.35 40 yard dash. Great speed, good tackler, good instincts. We need a great nickel CB to be a real contender in the AFC - here it is. 4) Andrew Quarless or Mickey Shuler, TE Both of these guys are from PSU - Shuler is the best blocking TE in the 2010 class and has pretty good hands. Quarless has more upside than Shuler and is a great receiver but has some work to do as a blocker - if he improves as a blocker the pick is Quarless (he has legal-trouble in his past so he falls to the 4th), if not it is Shuler. Probably Shuler anyway because he has the good samaritan thing going for him along with his skills. We pick a TE because Franks is gone and Baker is almost gone too. 5) Kellen Heard, NT We want more NT depth! Heard actually has the potential to eventually replace Jenkins. Heard = 6'6, 350 lbs. "Monstrous space-eater and run-stuffer" - WalterFootball 6) John Fletcher, DE 3-4 DE depth is never a bad thing especially with Ellis getting up there in age. Had 10.5 sacks and 14 TFL for Wyoming last year. 7) Matt DiLallo or Brent Bowder, P Both average 42+ yards per punt and both are great at dropping the ball inside the 20. (this assumes that Mike Nugent comes back and stays as the K)
1. Colt McCoy won't be a good NFL quarterback...at least I don't think so. He reminds me of a mobile, less injury prone Jason White. Mark Sanchez is the junior QB that we need to look at. Any QB that comes out of USC has all of the talent in the world. Pete Carroll knows how to groom QBs. 2. Malcolm Jenkins is a corner, and he won't make the move to Free Safety. 3. Marko Mitchell is probably the best receiver in the WAC. Don't knock the competition he plays against...a lot of good pro corners come out of that conference.
1) False - look at him against top competition this year Mark Sanchez isn't bad, but Colt McCoy is better - he has matured very nicely at the QB position I completely disagree with you here 2) False again - you think if we drafted Jenkins and told him to move to FS that he would say no? The thought is laughable. I know he is a CB but he would make a great FS - he is very smart, fast and great in both man and zone coverage. Again I completely disagree with you here. Despite these two things, what do you think about the draft(s) as a whole?
How can my opinion be "false"? I don't like Colt McCoy as a pro quarterback. He plays mostly out of the shotgun at Texas. The only thing I like about your draft is Brandon Spikes in Round 2, which probably won't happen (he'll be a first rounder) and Marko Mitchell in the 5th, which probably won't happen either because he should go much higher if he runs a good 40 time at the combine. It's not smart to move the top corner in this year's draft to a position he's never played. An NFL coaching staff wouldn't do that. It's too risky. ...so the only thing(s) I like about your draft(s) are most likely imaginary thing(s).
I recall a little while ago saying something along the lines of you contribute very little to these forums...nothing has changed, but I like the over use of the (s) because it makes you look real cool. I think I might have to change my name to MrElectricJr.... Brandon Spikes will be a Rd 2 LB if he declares early. Mauluga, Laurinaitis, Curry, Cushing, and McRath (if he enters early) will all be selected before him. Marko Mitchell dropping to the 5th isn't like saying Crabtree will drop to the 2nd; it is definitely possible Mitchell will be there in the 5th. He isn't even rated as a Top 15 WR and his production has dropped off from last year since the run game at Nevada has picked up.
Little buddy, if you think you contribute more than me with your daily mock drafts and pointless threads, then I'll let you think that... I agree that Curry, Lauranaitis, and Maulauga are better linebacker prospects than Spikes, but he's on the same level as Brian Cushing and Gerald McRath. If you're going to knock Mitchell for playing against poor comp, then you need to do the same for So Miss's McRath. Back to Marko Mitchell, sure his stats have nearly been cut in half, but that's because of their improved running game like you said. You don't have to pass when you can move the chains on the ground. Mitchell still shows he's a force in the redzone and he can make short passes into a huge gains -- Against "top" comp: 40+ yard TDs against Texas Tech and Mizzou. Don't knock WAC players: They are some of the best unknowns in the country.
Obviously I agree that Marko is a good WR, otherwise I wouldn't have us drafting him - but look at all of the WRs that will be in this draft from big time schools, and think about all of the junior WRs that will likely declare so they can enter a draft without a rookie cap. If we think Mitchell won't make it out of the 4th round I would be 100% willing to trade our 5th and 6th for a 4th and 7th to get him. As of now I think he can slip to the 5th round.
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_NFL_Draft Washington to New York Jets. Washington traded its fourth-round selection in 2009 to the New York Jets as part of a trade for Pete Kendall prior to the 2007 season. Denver to New York Jets. The Denver Broncos traded an undetermined conditional selection to the New York Jets as part of the Dewayne Robertson trade. New Orleans to New York Jets. The Saints traded a fourth-round pick in 2008 to the New York Jets for linebacker Jonathan Vilma. Depending on the number of defensive snaps Vilma plays, and whether or not he signs a new contract with the Saints, the Saints may owe the Jets a second-round pick in 2009
Ok so I'll add a 4th rounder, add a 2nd because I think that is what we'll end up getting Vilma, and look up the Roberston deal.
I like McCoy. Tough kid....good arm...mobile...takes risks but isn't retarded about it...definitely a guy who can be coached up. I like Stafford better than Sanchez. He's the most talented post-Palmer USC QB, and really the only one I think has the potential to be a great pro. Iunno...there has been some talk about it because he's knocked for his man on man skills. I think Vontae Davis is the best CB prospect in this draft. He's got the potential to be a Revis like corner prospect. I'll chalk this guy under "guys I should look out for." GM, I'm not a fan of your mock at all. I would love Brandon Spikes though.
Because I always feel the need to get involved....Electric does give a lot of input into the draft board and such...he may be annoying, but he 100% knows college football/draft.
What exactly about it don't you like. It's fine if you don't like it but I hate when people won't actually give criticisms.
As for the Robertson draft pick: "It's believed to be a late-round pick, but it could go as high as a second-rounder if Robertson reaches certain playing-time levels, according to an NFL source." I think it will be a 4th rounder as of now - he is one of the starting DTs for the Broncos and we were going to get 4th and 5th rounders from the Bengals before he failed the physical. So we have: Vilma = 2nd rounder Kendal = 4th rounder Robertson = 4th rounder 3 4th rounders in 2009? Oh boy
Updated This draft assumes the following: +Jets miss playoffs, lose a 3rd for the Favre Trade +Lowery stays at CB +Thomas Jones and Leon Washington hold down the RB position (well enough) +One of these 3 do not declare for the draft: Matt Stafford, Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy. +Jets get a 2nd rounder for Vilma since they resign him +Jets get a 4th rounder for Pete Kendall +Jets get a 4th rounder for Dewayne Robertson 1) Malcolm Jenkins/Taylor Mays/William Moore, FS Whichever one of these guys is available at our pick. 2a) Tyson Jackson, DE Most mocks and scouts have him rated as a 2nd round prospect now, still a great defensive end and has the size and ability to excel in the 3-4. 2b) Brandon Spikes, ILB Perfect ILB for the 3-4 defense - hard hitter, great tackler, good in coverage 3) lost to Favre trade 4a) Mark Parson, CB One of the best man-to-man corners you have never heard of. Only behind Mike Mickens and and Alphonso Smith in pass breakups in the Junior class. Slightly underzied at 5'10, 200 lbs, but he runs in the 4.3s and he gives us a 3rd lock down corner which we need in the AFC. 4b) Marko Mitchell, WR 6'4, 210 lbs, 4.40 40 yard dash. Nevada doesn't play top competition which might have a little do with his production (53 receptions, 1,129 receiving yards, 8 TDs in 2007). He is doing very well in 2008. I like his upside a lot, he has great speed and great hands for a big guy. 4c) Rashad Jennings, RB This could be the 2009 4th round diamond. He transferred from Pitt to Liberty because of family issues and he is currently carrying Liberty to an undefeated season. Through 6 games he has 725 yards and 8 TDs (5.6 YPC). He is 6'1, 232 lbs with a 4.42 40 yard dash. Great RB from a lesser known school, great addition to the current group of RBs we have. 5) Fenuki Tupou, RT/RG Monstrous right tackle who can also play right guard. Could be great depth at both positions in 2009 and be groomed to start for either one. 6) Lawrence Wilson, DE Outstanding 3-4 DE prospect at 6'6, 272 lbs, 4.65 40 yard dash - out for the year with a broken leg so he will fall in the draft. Hopefully we are the ones to steal him here. 7) Nader Abdallah, NT A monstrous run-stuffing 6'5, 310 lbs NT. Could stand to add a little weight; nice depth at NT in the 3-4. Needs we filled: FS, ILB, DE and DE depth, NT depth, RB, WR, OL depth. Needs to be filled in UDFA: Punter. Needs remaining: QB - 1st round of 2010 draft takes care of this. Bradford, Stafford, McCoy, Sanchez are all juniors...
