Well said. 8-8 is realistic. Maybe they thought Favre can squeeze an extra couple of wins. He is going to have to at some point if they are going to make the playoffs.

Ah the..."when we lose it's the coaches fault...when we win it's done *despite* the coaching."

Always logical in the Jets fan world.

    Where to start...

    1. 10 years past his prime? His physical prime, sure. But the reason he's a great QB is because he's more than just pure physical ability.

    2. Every football team is flawed. We have a talented D and a talented O. We have a coaching staff that took a bunch of dudes from a 4-12 team to the playoffs in their first year.

    3. Offenses tend to mature later than defenses. The Pats D was always better than their offense until last year. The Giants D outshined their O last year. The Ravens O is still waiting lol. The Steelers D was ahead of their O until recently. I could keep going...the Jaguars...Favre's problem isn't age or the coaching staffs stupidity...it's experience within the offense. Plain and simple.

    4. Your last paragraph is tough. If we go 8-8 with a bunch of impressive performances, then this is a tough year for everyone.

    5. We were a playoff team two years ago *because* of the coaching staff. Despite the BS spread now, this coaching staff had everyone excited two years ago.

    6. How much money did we spend exactly? How much of it do you think we'll actually spend considering this is the NFL and NOT the MLB?

    7. Wouldn't that worst to first line imply that even if we do suck this year...then we could just as easily be first next year?

    1. I honestly do not think the players are to blame for the losses they had this season. That includes Damien Woody, who I think is the suspect in the OL (as much as Moore)

    2. It's not even about offense not mature. Favre is getting hit like a punching bag in the first two series, and the offense keeps sending out 5 WR sets. That's not about maturing. That's called stupidity. One fell swoop - Favre gone for the season. What's next? I really was getting sick to my stomach watching that pile of garbage they called "Offensive Plays" - I really took offense watching that shit. If you don't think Favre is mature enough in that scheme to find receivers and protect himself within that short span of time, SHOULDN'T YOU CALL SOMETHING ELSE??????????????????????????

Wanna bet? Ok. First series, Favre exclusively went with 5 WR, with nominal success, settling for FG. Next, He went 3 and out. So what does the OC do? He stick to the passing game. Fucking brilliant or what?

    3. Jets were playoff teams two years ago - is it BECAUSE of the coaching staff? How do you know? Maybe it was - but then maybe it wasn't. I don't see any conclusive evidence that says it was the coaching staff that willed the team into the playoffs. Rather, if what that coaching staff showed after that is any indication, it's not really likely that coaching staff was that extra something that tilted the balance.

Getting rid of Schottenhiemer takes precedence over anything else. Mangini's specialty is supposed to be defense and the D isn't that bad at all. Schott never called plays before he came to the Jets, it's clear that he doesn't have any talent in that direction. As much as criticize Mangini, we could get by with him as HC if the OC was doing a good job. But Mangini seems to be in love with Schott, so you prolly have to get rid of them both at the same time.

    Uh huh..."Mangenius"....that whole thing?

2 season ago, Mangini was the man for a reason.

Most of that roster...besides Mangini signed/drafted players....was whatever was left from Parcells + Rhodes and Cotchery. And Rhodes and Cotchery have had their best years with Mangini.

It's really amazing how quickly here forget shit...convenient amnesia..and if they turn it around...well thats just the roller coaster of emotion I guess...

People are so quick to slam Shotty.

Keep in mind he changed to offense to better suit Mr. MVP.

It is not the same offense. No more shifts, more predictable. Easier to defend.

Are we Jets fans really that fickle? We have too many politicians here looking for "change". In football, you need consistency.

I agree the coaching staff has to up their game. Adjustments are part of the game, make them. But you fail to see that the PLAYERS made some terrible mistakes, miscues, etc. against the Raiders.

Muffed punts, INT's, slips, trips and falls, penalties, and missed assignments. These are what the players have to work on.

This coaching staff has brought a consistency to the Jets. Are they geat? No. They need some work as well. But I'm willing to let them work through their internal problems.

The players respect the coaching staff and have bought into the system. You really can't ask for more than that. There is no "Super Coach" out there dying to come coach us anyway. If is was easy, the Niners, Lions, Rams, Raiders would not have fired high profile people.

Give these guys a chance to right to ship so to say. We did not get blown away last week. We lost.

    Onward!!!

The Jets just need to start playing football. Knock the other guys on their asses so much they feel beaten pyshically and mentaly. And how bout some fucking emotion from our coach once in awhile. Just once I want to see Mangini get in someone's face and yell at the mofo after fumbling or baching a play! Lets pull this shit together Jets! No more fuckin around! Kick some fucking ass!!! CHEERS!

he got rid of the shifts but kept everything else the same - a conservative, passive approach.

Has Favre's command of this offense been so great that you really buy this is all Schotty?

Nothing really as time goes by we should get better. We blew every chance to win that game in oakland but redemption comes this next game. Favre has to be great.

I willing to bet he let's guys have it in the locker room. He is not into embarrassing the players in public.

I like this in a coach. Not everyone has to be Coughlin and/or Parcells on the sideline.

Look where it Coughlin this week.

Favre is not the master of the playbook, but Schotty does not call a great game either. A nice mix of play action would have helped, IMO. It would've kept the defense honest. A simple gameplan could have beat them, but it didn't happen.

This team has been passive all season. Thats why they don't scare anyone. They don't scare me.

So what exactly is a well called game? How do you tell the difference if you got WR's tripping, WR's dropping, RB's getting the ball flipped over their head, WR's getting deep balls called back due to penalties, WR's not getting separation...etc?

This team doesn't scare anybody because they're not executing. That goes on the players and coaches.

Where's Westhoff's blame for the ST's meh-ness this season? Where's Leon's big play ability? Where's Coles and Cotchery beasting it? Why're we committing so many stupid penalties?

This fetish we have for blaming our coaching staff for every fucking misstep is fucking retarded. It's just a bunch of people looking to pin the blame of a 60+ man effort on one or two guys...and God forbid a player...especially the almighty Favre...get mentions for the many miscues they've committed.

A well coached team has a scripted first series that scores most of the time on their first possession. A well coached team comes out of the tunnel at half time fired up with some adjustments that immediatly get results.

A well-called game attacks the weaknesses of the opponents relentlessly and plays to the strengths of the offensive personnel. I haven't seen a lot of the from Lil Schott.
