Now, let's just be realistic for a minute. We were 4-12 last year. All the free agents/traded players we brought in (Faneca, Woody, Pace, Jenkins, Favre) did help us, should buy us an additional 4 wins over last year. But let's face facts: this is a .500 football team: -We have beaten bad/average teams to date (Bengals = bad, Dolphins = below average, Cards = average). -We have lost to above average teams (San Diego, Pats, which is arguable) -We have lost to a really bad team (Raiders). I challenge anyone to tell me where more than 5 wins comes from over our remaining 10 games? It's not gonna happen. We'll beat KC on Sunday and everyone will be all giddy again, but then get absolutely crushed by a real team (Bills) the following week. And so it will go for the rest of the year. And now for the really sad part: Favre will be gone after this season, meaning we're back to our old quarterback situation, minus Penny, which makes it a REALLY bad situation.
NO, this team can be better than .500. Some of the guys that should carrie this Offense just play a bad season (for their standards) so far.
I'm not ready to say that the Jets won't make the playoffs just yet. They haven't played all that well and the only team they decisively beat was the Cardinals - and that was a strange game. I don't think they have put together an entire 60 minutes of good football yet. I think the Jets could be anywhere from 6-10 to 11-5 this year, depending how the team as whole - player, coaches, Flight Crew - respond to this defeat. Their backs are against the wall and they need to start kicking ass. I think next week's game will be very telling. If they can't get up to beat their ex-coach silly then they are really in trouble. The whole team has been inconsistent, but this is the NFL and from what I have seen this year most NFL teams are inconsistent. They play great one week and crappy the next. Look at the Colts, Chargers, Dallas, NO, etc. The Jets are not alone in this department. There are no givens anymore (except the Lions).
yes yesterday hurt real bad, 4-2 compared to 3-3 is such a big swing, mentally and also in the standings- 2 move 2 games above 500 would have been great- I for one thought we would beat Cincy, Oak, KC, most were saying 2 out of 3 which we can still do. I don't believe buffalo is a foregone conclusion that we lose to them. Lets hope if anything came out of yesterday that we find an identity on offense. The rythm is so bad and if we can correct this we can begin to see improvement on offense. We need to assist the line a bit as to run always on first down and then trow on third our predictablity allows defenses to stop us. Establising Identity is the most important thing right now, I believe our offseason was designed to smash mouth run the ball, we must realize we can still try to achieve this and we are not taking away the value of brett favre. If we can run the ball it will open up the play action and unlike when penny could beat teams underneath favre has the ability to go over the top.
So where do more than 5 wins come from? I just don't see it. Titans will crush us, Bills will crush us, Broncos will crush us, St. Louis all of the sudden looks really tough...
get the next two we need to take care of business next week and then go into Buff and put up a big win. We need to do it on offense. Our defense is not getting credit for having a good year to date. It will only get better if we can begin to contril the clock run and play action. We took a step back yesterday for sure but need to move over 500 again with a win of KC that gives us a chance to have a 3-1 second 1/4 of season and put ourselves in position to improve and move forward the second 1/2 of season.
I hear you man, but we've had six games to establish an identity. The season is almost half way over, that identity needed to be established by now, my fear is we have no identity, we'll have flashes of greatness (Cardinals game), but than quickly lose it to confusion and underperformance. We are what our record says we are..
