He is working out of NYC, so it won't even be a long distance call.

    Please!

Cowher would never come out of retirement to coach "The Jets".

Who would have thought in 1996 that Bill Parcells would become HC of the NYJ in 1997?

The Jets are 3-3 and lost in OT in Oakland. They aren't terrible. Mangini can stay as coach, the problem is the offensive play calling.

as well as the jets inability to play real defense. whenever the raiders came out of their shell and threw the ball, they had success

    +1

The Jets have talent too. It isn't like we are asking him to come coach Detroit.

Woody, if you care at all about anything other than gouging Jets fans wallets, then get on the phone with Cowher and get him in here.

Nice. Hire one conservative coach to replace another.

The HC has ultimate responsibility for the team. If the playcalling sucks, MANGREENI should do something about it!

The problem isn't that our coach is conservative. As stated in other threads, they are too predictable, unimaginative, uncreative, and soft to be an effective coaching staff in this league.

I agree with that. It was my hope that signing Favre would get them to be more imaginative, expand the field, create more areas to expose in the defense, but they still call plays like Chad is the quarterback with only a couple of options on any given play. Almost seemed like they were even more imaginative 2 years ago with all the shifts at the line and gutsy calls at time.

Exactly. Look at the one drive we scored a TD. We opened the playbook and weren't afraid to make big plays. When you play not to lose, you lose.

How about making Pete Carroll a $40 million dollar offer to come back and run the team for 5 years? Let him decide if he wants to GM or GM + Coach (with Tannenbaum's assistance on the financial side.)

Carroll has seen the NFL from the head coaches perspective with multiple teams. He's run an extraordinarily successful college program. He's coached in New York and he understands the pressures involved.

Cowher would be ok, but I think he won't want the Jets, whereas Carroll might want to take a shot at changing the culture.

Ugh. If Carroll were smart, he'd stay right where he is.

I hate Mangini too but don't think Cowher is the answer. He stuck with Kordell way too long. He's pretty dumb.

It's too late for this season anyway--We're doomed. The fat man is running the show and we are assured lousy playcalling.

Our only chance is if he would fall on his own sword--but it might now penetrate the blubber anyway,
