Could use some additional depth/talent at the FS position to compliment Rhodes, so my pick's William Moore, FS Mizzou. Exhibits good ball skills and instincts against top tier competition. Seems to make few mistakes.
...I was so pissed when I read Love will never play football again. He was a huge talent for a small school like Ball State. I guess it wasn't meant to be.
Cant get on the guy who picked on Harper as the guy I said hasnt flat out shown up for Purdue this year in Curtis Painter. I dont know if its because Dustin Keller opened up THAT much for him but Painter looks so overwhelmed this year and hes making stupid mistakes that seniors dont make it. He's help shooting himself down draft charts and I can see him maybe being a UFDA in the future. I still think he can be something but he hasnt done much senior year which is alarming.
I really like Chase Coffman from Mizzou. He reminds me of a more polished Kevin Boss, and I thought Boss was better than a 6th round TE prospect. With Missouri's success, he's got the potential to go high in the draft. I think he can get in the first, cause he's got serious upside as a pro TE.
Tyson Jackson, DE, from LSU, 6-5, 295, great against the run, prototypical 3-4 end. Our D line is old, I wouldn't mind taking this guy in the first.
Four KEY needs to be addressed... 1. RB - A need for a power runner that can get the edge. Leon is a Dave Meggett type of player that doesn't have the lower body strength to turn the corner and break the tackles that get that extra 4 or 5 yards, Thomas Jones is a between the tackles back - who is serviceable but lacks the explosion needed to hit the hole. McFadden would have been perfect, but.....what could've been. 2. Depth at Safeties... 3. Depth at insdie linebacker.... Harris should be a stud. Barton is good, but after this year would probably be best classified as a "hold the fort player". When David Bowens is taking second team snaps behind Harris the postion cries for needed depth. 4. Depth at Guard and Center. Best college player that would fit both positions is Cladwell (# 59) with Alabama. He played guard last year and center last year and he is anchoring the middle of that line this year.....
Agree....The best thing that happended to Clemens this year was Favre. It gave him another year to sit back and absorb the pro game....especially after it was obvious that he had troubles with the speed of the game last year. Pro QB's need time (3 to 4 years) to grasp the pro game. The QB that comes in and crasps the pro game in their second or third year are few and far between. Think ELI Manning......2 years ago almost every Giants fan wanted him run out of town.....with that said if Clemens comes in next year or the year after he must hit the ground running. He can not take another year or two to develop.
Right now my favorite RB prospect has to be LeSean "Shady" McCoy. He is really looking playing behind the PITT line. Hopefully he comes out this year and will drop around the teens, which is where I think we are drafting.
McCoy is the truth. I think he's going to be the best RB from this class. I like CJ Spiller too, but McCoy's upside is ridiculous.
I've been enamored with Crabtree since I saw him play last year. I would consider selling my soul for the Jets to get him, however I just don't think it's realistic that we'll be picking in the Top 8, which is where he'll go. So, I'm high on Kam Chancellor from Virginia Tech. He's big and strong (listed at 6'4/224); can lay the wood, has good enough speed, and has played the rover position. Thus far, in 2008, his play has been so-so, but I feel if he goes to an NFL team with talent (especially in the Secondary), he'll be highly productive. Teaming him up with Rhodes would be one hell-of-a Safety tandem. And I think it's realistic, as of right now, that he'll be available when I think we'll pick. Of course, we all know stock can rise and fall, and the Combine will mix things up, but if he's there, I'd love to see us get him in R1. Lastly, after watching some Texas games this year, Brian Orakpo looks like an absolute beast. The guy is pretty quick, has a great motor, and bench presses 515 pounds and squats 600. Problem is, he's listed as 6'4/260, which sucks, because that's too small to play on our DL, and you can't count on him gaining weight. I also think he doesn't look like the type that would transition smoothly to a 3-4 OLB, but that's just my opinion after watching him play a couple of times. His strength demonstrates that he could possibly handle a 3-4 DE spot, but again, just too small. Speaking of which, every year we debate Value over Need. So I'm wondering - after I've already seen some comments on this - if we're on the clock and the absolute best value is a 3-4 OLB (be it someone like Selvie), would it be okay to draft that player if trading out is impossible and you just can't pass on that player?
Yeah, either one of those guys would be fine by me. Spiller is pretty good at catching too, which is invaluable these days. I think RB should be a strong consideration, depending on the pick and the value of the pick/player. Thomas Jones is 30. He looked fantastic yesterday, but you have to be honest and note that a couple of his runs were opportunities to break it loose for paydirt, but he just doesn't possess the moves & skillset to make that happen.
I also want to add, I'm completely in favor of drafting a RT or RG if we're picking near the end of R1. Moore and Woody are looking inconsistent, and I'd like to see us get someone big and nasty to maul opposing DL. I'm not sure what prospects there are, but evidently, anyone on Penn St would be good because their OL has been dominant.
I know two defensive tackle prospects that I am liking are Terrance cody (6-5, 365) from Alabama, he seems to be pretty hot right now but another guy I could see the Jets snagging in the second round is is Terrance Taylor DT from Michigan, he is not Kris Jenkins size but he is listed at 310 so putting on some weight between now and the draft is not impossible
Agree with everything except the skepticism of Leon's leg strength. His TD yesterday (vs Oakland) should have clarified that. By no means am I claiming he's an every-down back and we therefore don't need one; but he definitely possesses enough strength to keep his legs churning. Still, we need a featured back who can break plays open and score from anywhere on the field to pair up with him. I think Cody is on all of our wish lists, as well as any other team who runs the 3-4. I think as of now he's rated in the Top 10-15 draft prospects, which makes it unlikely we have a chance at him, unless of course, this season downward spirals. However, he just got injured on Saturday night and is expected to miss several weeks, so I'm not sure what that will do to his stock, nor do I know the type of injury and its extent.
