I did too until I watched the highlights... Baker got beat by Odom, but Favre stepped up into a hell hole. Brandon Moore isn't touching a single player on that play. I don't know what the hell he was doing?
You've never seen a play where an offensive lineman has no one to block? It happens often on passing plays. Sometimes they will help double team other pass rushers but a lot of the time they have to hold their assignment and wait for late blitzers and stunts. On the illegal man down field, Farve held the ball forever and Moore was a few yards down the line. That doesn't make him a bad lineman.
Favre* ...maybe Brandon Moore should've been more heads up on that play...that's all I'm saying. He looked lost and didn't help Woody or Mangold out.
That I will agree with. I'm all for drafting another offensive lineman to build up the depth and compete for a starting spot. I think Moore is a very good run blocker and an average pass blocker. In the miami game Favre called the wrong blocking scheme and Moore was involved in giving up a sack. If we can get a Chris Snee or a mentally healthy Shawn Andrews then I'm all for the upgrade. I don't want another rookie on the line. Ideally these guys will be together the next 3 years and they will become a top unit.
Moore isn't the issue. I just think it's good to have good to have good guard depth. I think this O-line has the potential to be very good. I just would like to be able to keep it up once Faneca loses a step.
I'm ok w/ our starting front 5. Moore is average but he's a longtime holdover that this regime seems to love. Once they develop alittle more chemistry and teams begin really fearing our passing game, the running game will surely pick up..i have no doubt. To me the only issue w/ our Ol is depth.Woody gives us some versatility, and Hunter is a decent back-up OT. But that's about it for flexibility. We need to bring in some legit long term prospects...not some "diamond in the rough" UDFA that started one year at Moorhead state.
I would love to see Herman Johnson in a Jets' uniform, but it probally won't happen. I liked ths kid for the past 2 years & his is definitely worth whatever round you draft him. Hopefully he's still around in round 2. OL...RG/RT & DE are most glaring needs. A good RB can be had in 1st 4 rounds. There's a nice LB I saw on Missouri...#53 - J. Smith....Has very good speed & likes to hit. Would be a great addition to Jets' LB corps. SS...A hard Hitting/thump'n SS needed to punish ballcariers. Unless Justin Miller takes over that position. Anyway....I'm very glad you're hip to Herman Johnson...a true-MAn-child. He is you're answer for short yardage for the next 10 years. You tipically wouldn't want to spend a 1st rounder on a Guard, but he is the "Exception to the rule". He is a player that can neutralize even the Pats front 3.
The whole "you don't draft G's in the first" thing is a myth. It's BS. If theres a really good G prospect...take him where you feel you should. Shawn Andrews, Steve Hutch, Eric Steinbach was considered a first round pick who fell, Davin Joseph, Aaron Sears was a G in college, and Ben Grubbs...those are some pretty good G's there...you draft to find good players...whatever position they may be at. I like Robinson more than Johnson personally.
For Herman Johnson it is alot about consistency, sometimes he doesn't play up to his size he has all the tools but he needs to play up to his reputation
Here's the profile of the biggest baby ever born in Louisiana: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fYdHoE_0kk&feature=related
IF you couldnt tell by the profile pick I am a huge LSU fan so I wish Herman and Holliday all the best I'm just saying what the scouts seem to say, plus I read the ESPN scouting report online and there are a few weak points (As there are with any player) in his game, but ones that are more concerning for a person with his size
I know what you're saying...I just saw your picture and thought you might like to see that youtube clip. Herman is build a lot more like a tackle. I get to watch him play tonight in person vs. South Carolina. Tomorrow morning I'll post my thoughts on his play.
I didnt say that u never choose guards in the 1st i said almost never it just depends on ur needs and who is available.Duke Robinson is gonna go in the 1st no question, Herman Johnson probably not.But for us guard is no where near our needs as of this point.
thanks though, the guy you really want to see I guess in two years in Charles Scott that guy is great he is so physical but he does a great job staying on his feet
Charles Scott is the real deal. He's a great compliment to Keiland Williams and Trindon Holliday. I think both Scott and Williams will be starters in the pros. Scott sealed last night's game for the Tigers...running up the gut, behind Herman Johnson. The clock slowly ran out and the Tigers pulled out the tough win here in Columbia.
