They key is Farve can play bad and still do enough for our team to beat a team. Chad has to play an error free game every week and his team has to also play great every week for him to get a win. Farve gets bad wins when he sucks Chad does not win at all when he plays bad. I have never heard one time on this board that Chad had a bad game when the offense put up 20+ points. Chad would get patted on the back for managing the game, showing moxy and Putting Thomas Jones in the Position to score three times. At the end of the day I don't care what the stat line looks like as long as we put points on the board. Playing risk free and error free and scoring 10 points is not good and it will lose close games to the likes of the Bengals etc.
The object is to score more points than the other team and Chad played well enough for the Jets to do that in Pittsburgh, but others have to also do their jobs. Again, it's not a typical game, it's January in Pittsburgh vs a 15-1 team and we have an injured QB. Santana Moss gave us some points on special teams, again, team game, you win as a team. Chad did his job that day, ugly as it was, thus he did lead us to within a kick of the AFC championship game. Again, we're not even in that game if not for how he played the week before and the entire season leading up to that game, so I don't see how you can argue the statement that he led us to that point. He did.
To me a win is a win good bad and thee ugly.. U think arizonas last second field goal block for a td was a ugly win? When its all said and done and a team wins the superbowl nobody remembers an ugly win none the less who they even played that season. 1990 giants without going somewhere to look it up who did they play during the season besides the obvious nfc east? I have no freekin clue or who they played and if a win was ugly..
All I am saying is that you cannot say when a qb leads an offense to 10 points it's a bad day for the QB but say that pennington played well when he led the offense to 3 points. Those two statements contradict each other.
Yes they do, but there is also a difference in isolating one regular season game and discussing how far the team went for a season. I can't speak for nyjunc, but when people say we were a kick from the AFC Championship game, that represents what we did over the course of the season and playoffs as a whole, not necessarily what happened in the last game by itself. No matter how far you go, unless you win the Super Bowl the last game is going to be a disappointment in some way, shape or form. And still, given the circumstances, Chad was not the goat that day in Pittsburgh, not even close.
There are details and circumstances in every game that effect the final outcome. I don't think penny played well at all in that game leading us to 3 points, and I know Junc has disagreed with me. Favre was playing his second game in a new system with new players and was handed shitty field position all day while NE had great field position if you want to talk circumstances and details. How about not being able to get the damn ball in the endzone on 3 straight run plays from inside the 5? Again, my point was a simple one pointing out a complete contradiction. Obviously there are way more details involved in both games.
At least one of us is still wondering who Walt Michaels is  ... <googling> ... oh my, yes the memories are long. "I can fart farther than you can kick!" LOL, I think I'd like this guy ... more importantly, I think Favre would love this guy!
Huge difference in that we got 14 pts from other sources, he was playing w/ a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder and TWICE he got us to FG range(hough 1 time was helped w/ an INT) w/ a chance to win. Did we ever have a chance to win that NE game? were we w/in a kick? did he lead us into FG range to win it? No. I have NEVER sad Chad played well against Pitt. NEVER. He was hurting so he wasn't the same player, I gave him credit for helping us get into FG range but we were in that game b/c of the D and STs. That is silly. Chad has had poor games that we have won by making plays when it mattered. I don't blame Brett for that loss, I have stated over and over how his early struggles were to be expected. I just can't stand hearing how great he has been when that CLEARLY isn't the case.
If Chad made plays when it mattered he would still be the Qb of the Ny Jets. Period and in no uncertain terms.
Incorrect. If Chad was DURABLE he'd still be the QB of the NY Jets. He obviously must have made plays when it mattered or else how would he have started in the most playoff games and the most different playoff years in team history? it's funny, according to the board our HC stunk and our QB stunk- how the heck did we have so much success w/ them then?
He was healthy when the season started but yet the team decided to go in the Farve direction. Go figure. We had so much success because of our Future HOF Running back CURTIS MARTIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Curtis Carried the team despite Chad and Herm.
Don't forget 2006 when we rode the back of Kevan Barlow to the playoffs. junc, why even bother with this guy? What will be accomplished?
i was actually thinking the same about junc. he obviously loves chad so he's not gonna change his mind about him
He was healthy to begin last season too, what does that have to do w/ anything? he has been an injury prone player since his rookie. Last I checked Curtis Martin wasn't on our 2006 team that Chad led to 10 wins so how did Curtis carry that team? and Curtis w/o Chad as his QB in NY made the playoffs 2 times in 4 seasons. W/ Chad he made it 2 times in 3 seasons.
The New York Jets Have Brett Farve were still arguing about Chad Pennington and your saying why bother with me? Last time I checked our Qb threw more T/d's in one game than Chad has this season. In 2006 we played in four games the regular season with teams over .500! We lost three of 4 of those games. WE HAD A WEAK SCHEDULE! We got a Reality check in 07 or did you miss that?
I'd like to know what the rest of the NFL thinks about Pennington. We have our two sides niched quite well, but perhaps an outside perspective could help.
So if we make the playoffs w/ the weak sched we have this year will you mention that? Last I checked of our 3 wins this year only 1 is against a .500+ team.
Hey, at least you can read. Did I make this thread? As I told someone else, Chad played here a long time and won a lot of games, so his name is going to come up. Especially now that he still plays in our division. Might as well get used to it.
The thing about Pennington is, he can do great things when he isnt the sole weapon on offense. He is suited to be the Miami QB this year much more than the Jets because of Ronnie Brown and the running game. Chad was at his best when we had curtis Martin. Chad is a game manager, one of the best in the league. Which is the reason I believe the Vikings were absolutely retarded when they didnt sign him. But to say Chad was terrible as a Jet is just absurd. We just didnt give him the right supporting cast. Chad would be better with this Jets team rather than last year, because we have a playmaking defense. We've been able to control the clock all year long. And I'll say it again, Brett Favre is the better QB and will eventually win games that Chad could not have done. BUT, if chad was our QB, we would be 3-2.
