yes you = moron. and if you werent able to understand my post then you just prove the point. this thread is pointless.
Puddnhead, we have been having the same coversation (with regards to Pennington) since about the 2005/2006 season. Nobody ever changes anybody else's mind, but it continues nonetheless. Even with Favre now at the healm it's still around. I doubt it will go away any time soon. I believe that the fat that Chad went to the Phins (who all Jet fans keep an eye on and care about) has made it even more interesting. There are a lot of "Chadoholics" (myself included) who cannot stay away from these threads or others like them - either from a positive standpoint or a negative standpoint.
If we did not get Favre, Chad would NOT have started. No way. I know a lot of people thought he was "winning" the competition but he was just playing totally tight and conservative and was throwing less interceptions. But he was still ineffective. And no, he is not effective in Miami. They run the friggin single wing when it is important and in the red zone because they know had cannot get it done. Clemens would have started, Chad would have been the backup and Ratliff may not have had the chance to break out in the preseason and may have even been cut for the PS again. We would be 1-3 most likely, and the Chad fans would be gnashing their teeth continuously that he was not starting.
I just dont get this thread, who we have is favre so everyone needs to get onboard or cheer for the phins.
this whole board is based off of speculation. it gives us fans something to talk about. will the jets win? who will have a good day? game predictions. season predictions. etc. Take your head out of your ass and maybe you'd realize that.
-------------------------------------------------- Heh. Namecalling. Stop, please. Consider this ^ to the be line that shall not be crossed. At least not any more than has been done already. Ease off on the name calling. As always, wit and biting sarcasm works just fine.
exactly, but what is the point of speculating what would happen if we didnt have a player we do have, or if we had a different player, it's irrelevent. if you wanna do that go play madden. btw you can get off my nuts at anytime you want. ty
Calm down, buddy. If you don't want to talk about it don't. Stupid homo lines and lashing out at people isn't going to help. Pennington was here a long time and won a lot of games for us, so he's going to be talked about. We still talk about Richard Todd and Ken O'Brien from time to time too. Deal with it or don't read the threads, those are your choices.
Point was, he is a top ranked QB this year, and the team is 3-2. If they win one more game this year then they're equal to last year. Point is, we are a better team with Favre and it shows. Favre played ONE good game? Are you sniffing paint? What... do you expect him to throw for 6 TDs every week. In your mind does he have to throw for a minimum of 4 TDs per game for him to have a good game in you book? The Jets beat the Bengals. So, what's your beef? Apparently you're pretty critical of everything that Favre does. And of course... QB rating and total TDs for 5 games into the season don't mean squat, unless it happened to be Chad Pennington who was on top statistically. Then, you'd be all about it. 13 TDs for 5 games must be subpar in your mind. The fact the the Jets are ranked 16th is subpar in your mind. The fact that the Jets are on course (given their record thus far) to finish with 9 or 10 wins (take 3 wins out of 5 games and multiply that by 3.3 because we're roughly a third of the way through the season) is subpar in your mind. my point is, don't punch a gift horse in the mouth; don't expect 16-0 in the first year we have Favre. Just be grateful that the Jets have a winning record and are heading in the right direction. Stop being negative and looking for excuses to throw Favre under the bus.
We won in Miami b/c of the DEFENSE. Favre and the O had numerous chances to end that game on their own but they allowed Miami to hang around and the D held them and saved the game. If you want to call that an ok game I'll agree but not good. The NE game was a bad one, when you lead your team to just 10 pts it's a bad day for your QB. He was AWFUL in SD, don't let his meaningless garbage time #s confuse you. Through 3 qtrs he had led us to one TD "drive" which was a 4 yd drive after the great Leon KR. had the D not given up 34 points...????? Maybe the D would have done a better job had Favre not been turning it over to SD every 3 plays? The D got Favre a 7-0 lead when they scored, through 3 qtrs the D scored as much as Favre's O scored. He was great in the ARi game. This was his lone great game. He wasn't good vs. Cincy but at least it was good enough for the W. He kept Cincy in the game BUT he led us on the game clinching drive in the 4th. Don't let fantasy #s confuse you. I expected he'd have early struggles and I am pleased w/ his progress BUT that doesn't remove the fact that he hasn't played well(despite the #s) for most of the year. He's getting better, the O is getting better and I expect he's going to be very good overall when we look back at this year but it hasn't happened YET. We are better but it's not b/c of Favre it's b/c of all the other areas we improved. Read my psosts< I am happy w/ Favre but it's silly to think HE is the reason we are 3-2 and it's silly to say he has played well most of the year when that clearly isn't the case(and much of that was to be expected). He didn't play well vs. Cincy, he kept Cincy in the game BUT he got the W so I am happy I just am not going sit around and read posts about how Favre was the reason we beat Cincy w/o telling people the truth. I don't care about his fantasy #s. They are mostly a product of his one great game. It didn't impress me that he had good #s at SD b/c he was terrible that night. I don't expect 16-0, I do expect more than 10 wins b/c we would have eben around a 10 win team w/ Chad. I am NOT being negative, I am happy we are 3-2 I just know Favre isn't THE reason and know that, outside of the ARI game, he hasn't played very well but I expect he will for most of the rest of the year.
Yeah, I guess as a "Favraholic" myself I understand, and maybe can even relate a little for your need for the "12 steps" to play out here. In the case of Favre vs Rodgers over at Green Bay, we fans had the .... "luxury" (ahem) of a month or more of back and forth about who was better to lead the team as that slow-motion collision of Favre vs Thompson played out. At least for me that was enough to flush my system of the bile about the switch and mostly move on to accepting the new reality, by the time the trade to the Jets happened. Here in Jetsland you had more like 30 minutes not 30 days, they traded for Favre and almost simultaneously BAM Pennington was gone. So I guess, thinking about it that way, I can understand why this still goes on ... It's kinda ironic though, what it will take to make Jets fans "forget" cutting Pennington (Favre taking them into playoffs and beyond) may be exactly what reopens old wounds for Packer fans like me. i think, however, that the pleasure will outweigh the pain
While I agree with this, I have to point out that you have consistently said that "Pennington led us to within a FG of the AFC Championship" when the offense put up 3 points that day. Something doesn't add up there.
Because in that instance people are referring to the season as a whole and the playoff run including the San Diego game, not just that game by itself. Of course Chad played that game with a torn rotator cuff which has hampered his career ever since, which a lot of Jet fans also appreciate. Especially when contrasted with John Abraham, who sat out those same playoffs with a far lesser injury and doesn't get half the wrath Chad gets for gutting it out and not putting up 35 points on the road vs a 15-1 team.
That's not always the case. Junc has made the argument that Chad did well in that game when people tell him he played shitty. The rotator cuff didn't seem to bother him the week prior when he threw the legendary bomb in SD. Abraham doesn't get shit on anymore because he hasn't been here in 3 years. Personally I shit all over him for not playing when the doctors cleared him to play in that game. He could have made the difference.
You're saying the rotator cuff wasn't an issue? Watch that bomb again, after the TD Chad can't even raise his right arm to celebrate it. The fact that he could suck it up and throw a couple TDs, one a bomb, to win a playoff game on the road is another reason so many of us are fans. Those playoffs are where all this "noodle arm" crap started, because he was playing with a career threatening injury. He said the worst part was not being able to control where the ball went a lot of the time. As for the Pittsburgh game, playing "well" is all relative. On the road with a torn shoulder vs a 15-1 team, to put us in position to have TWO chances to win it with a FG is playing reasonably well, certainly not "shitty". Had he thrown bad picks and we got blown out like we were supposed to, he would have played "shitty". No, he didn't put up a lot of points but he moved us between the 20s when he had to so we'd have chances to win the game. I don't know exactly what else people were expecting in that circumstance. It's a team game, you need a coach who doesn't move the team backwards for a FG attempt and a kicker who can make a FG in two tries, especially when you have an injured QB moving the team on guts alone.
Just because a QB doesn't throw a pick doesn't mean he didn't play shitty. The point of an offense and the QB is to score freakin points. You cannot make a blanket statement like "when you lead your team to just 10 pts it's a bad day for your QB." and at the same time say Pennington played well when the offense only put up 3 points. It's not logical.
Chad was definetly hurting and probably should have been shut down after the Buffalo game. Who knows what was really going on with Carter who went awol during the playoffs. Chad didn't play well in Pitt but he was clearly impacted by his injury. Even the TD pass to Moss in SD was in the air forever. He got it there on guts give him his due. My knock on Pennington is I believe his arm is pretty much gone due to injury. In spite of that he still has a lot of smarts. In this league in order to make a playoff run you need the arm and the smarts.
