There are plenty of ways we can go about the draft. But which do you think is the best route to take? Do we go oline heavy (for example...1a) Ferguson 1b) Mangold 2) Jean-Gilles/ McNeill? Do we go fo the draft that gives us an elite defense but another year of an anemic offense? Or do we try a balanced approach...neither unit will impress, but neither unit falls to behind? Whats the best way to go?
It seems that most of our free agents have been role players added to the defense so I see us going heavy offense in the draft. I think we look to rebuild the line early (unless Leinart slips to 4) add to our defense in the middle rounds. This will leave us short on playmakers (esp at QB and RB) but we cant fill all the holes and if we commit to defense we wont need superstars on offense anyways. I would be like: #4 D Brick (move Jones to RT giving us 2 athletic bookends) #29 Mangold (the new Mawae) #35 Davin Joseph (LG to groom behind Kendall) 3a) Daryll Tapp (3-4 OLB/4-3 end) 3b) Orien Harrison (3-4 DE behind Kimo) I think this leaves 2 big question marks at QB and RB but I'd rather see what we have there and build the rest of the team in the meantime. Maybe somebody steps up, if not then we can go aggressively after those positions next year with a young talented team already in place behind them
Taking three Olineman with our first three picks is a bit much. I do like all three lineman you mentioned though...I just seriously doubt we take that many in a row to start.
look at my sig to see my draft. But if Leinart is gone, i want D'Brick and change #35 to Bobby Carpenter
OL has great depth in this years draft meaning we can can still get good quality OL in rounds 3 and up. I am a big fan of picking the best player availabale and getting good value for each pick but that really needs to take account the depth each position in the draft. It also really comes down to how much our CS and scouts value each player. If they think Mario Williams. D'Brick or AJ Hawk is a rare player that will only come along once in 5 years then you have to take him. We certainly need OL but we also need OLB's. Bryan Thomas is number one on the Jets depth chart for starting OLB's. While he might suprise us it is quite scary. Many people think Hobson will not be able to play OLB in a 3-4. If we are lucky enough to find someone to trade down to the 9-12 spot we could take Ngata or Bunkley. We need at least one OT, one OG and 1-2 OLBs in this draft. We could also use another CB, a speedy WR and a developmental mid to late round QB. The possibilites are endless. The OL and DL are the building blocks of great teams. I would not mind see us take 3-4 OL in the draft and a DT and 1-2 OLB's. If it means we might struggle this year so be it as long as we are building for the future. We need a solid OL to build the team around.
Another option 1) Vernon Davis 2) Leonard Pope 3) Dominique Byrd Jets + NFL Draft = Lots of Tight Ends. Why hide from our destiny.
We should balance it out. We need a lot of OL but we don't need to get three in the first two rounds. OL is a position where you can find good solid starters throughout the draft. If we can get a tackle and a center early and get a guard later we will be set. That would allow us to add to our defense by getting an OLB and a NT. We still should go for either a QB or RB flyer in the draft in my opinion if one is available. Maybe Maroney at #29 or Croyle in the third.
with as many holes as we have why not go BPA everytime?unless of course the bpa at the time is a position we're already set at like...well you know...ummmm..i dunno i say BPA
a balanced draft.listen up ma man that is not the way he draft is run.you take the best available athlete.those that draft only for need usally end up wishing that they had taken the best available athlete.that is why we have a system where players are rated best 100 players.

That draft would be absolutely AMAZING and would fill all of our major needs. While its unlikely it is not totally out of the question. If we are the only viable trading partner for the Saints then they will stay and most likely take Mario and if the Titans are really enamored with Young then we would not hesitate to STEAL the best QB in the draft. I would love all of those picks.
4. Mario 29. Mangold 35. Gabe Watson 71. Andrew Whitworth 97. Andre Hall and well, there you go. OL done, DL done. RB of the future... maybe.
