Some fun with numbers: Records will be expressed as Games won minus games lost, so a 3-2 record appears as +1. Acronyms used below: GP - Record of teams already played GC - Record of teams yet to be played GW - Games against winning teams in the future Team______Record____GP______GC______GW Bills______4-1______-7______-3______5 Jets_______3-2______-4______-1______5 Pats_______3-2______-5______+5______7 Miami______2-3______+1______-5______5 My analysis of those numbers in english: The pats have a tough road in front of them. The Bills and Jets have similar schedules in front of them. The Bills have a game in hand on a really easy first five games. The bolts are currently a zero score in my system and play the bills next week in toro^H^H^H^Hbuffalo, that game would seem to be important to both team's seasons. The head-to-head series with the Bills is critical to the outcome of the AFCE. The fish have had it the hardest so far and their record reflects that. Their schedule allows them the opportunity to win a few. STOP ROOTING FOR THE DAMN FISH.
Next week alone will be very interesting for the AFC east. Chargers @ Bills: Should be a loss to buffalo the way the Bolts are playing right now. This is a game where the Bills need to show if they are for real. Baltimore @ Maimi: Thihs is going to be a supprisingly good game. A top defense vs the revamped Phins offense. Can the Ravens find a way to slow down the single wing? If so will they provide the rest of the NFL the blueprint for it? Denver @ New England: Can the pats rebound after a beat down from the bolts? If not are they as good as done this season? They need to get it going and quickly. Finally, the Jets @ the Raiders: A game we should win. No one thought it possible but the Raiders looked worse after the coaching change. This is a game we need to come out quickly and put the raiders on the retreat. It will be good to see if our Run D can contain the "great zone blocking scheme" the Raiders use. What a week. Its gonna be a great day to be a Jets fan and watch this unfold.
Good post. I think Buffalo's upcoming schedule is actually more difficult than the +5 simply because they have all of there divisional games left. If Cassel doesn't get his head out of his ass the Pats will be toast. How glorious would it be if the Pats finished last in the division AND we won the division?
Well, I'd rather they just miss the playoffs. Why move them up any further in the draft then we need to.
I missed looking at the in-division games. Playing the bills always makes me shudder since we have, what I remember as, a horrible historical head-to-head record with them. The bills have division games in weeks 8(@mia), 9(ny), 10(@ne), 14(mia), 15(@ny), 17(ne). I would think that is the best order to play those games if I were rooting for the bills. It is always better having the fish north later. It is better to play @ne when there is a chance the game means nothing to the pats. Any season where the fish aren't last is a lost season in my book. Maybe they could tie for last?
Here is our remaining schedule: @ Oakland - There is no way in hell this game should even be close Kansas City - The Herm Bowl Part II! Another easy win @ Buffalo - Usually a tough game but, thankfully, we're in there before the snow hits. This is gonna be a very big game for the Jets St. Louis - Another easy win @ New England - The Pats stink now. The Jets shouldn't have lost to them the first time and, if the Jets want to contend for the playoffs this year, they have to win this game @ Tennessee - Toughest game on the schedule right now but Tennesee looks beatable to me, despite their record Denver - Not an easy game but Denver has been struggling mightely @ San Fran - An easy win Buffalo - I think that, by this point in the season, the Bills will no longer be contending for the playoffs but they will still play the Jets hard. This will be a tough one. @ Seattle - Easy win Miami - God I hope it doesn't come down to this game. Either way, the bottom line is that the schedule looks pretty easy from here on out. If Jets win the games they should, they will be playoff-bound.
I think this post is way too optimistic. Division games are tough in the AFCE and our record against Tor^H^H^H Buffalo just isn't good. Some of the rest of the analysis is just silly in its optimism. This is an apparent call for a 13-3 or 14-2 record?
there are no easy games in the nfl. oakland will be as tough as anyone. don't look past stl & ne either. take it week by week. road wins are few &far in between unless you're a great ballclub and the jets are not there yet, sorry to break it to ya. say waa?
Saying at Seattle and at San Francisco being easy wins I simply can't agree with. West coast games are never easy, and Seattle should be better by the time we play them. San Fran isn't that bad.
No, we could lose both games to Buffalo, the game to New England, the game to Tenn, the game to Denver and the game to Miami according to my game-by-game thougths. That would put us at 9-7. But I think the potential is there for a really good season - yeah. I firmly believe that St. Louis, SanFran and Seattle are total rollover games, regardless of the whole West coast thing. I mean, those teams completely suck.
My inner Benigno is worried that the horrible and very avoidable loss in the first Pats game will end up being what keeps us out of the playoffs.
Denver never loses to NE. The game should be a blow-out. Miami will likely lose again, they aren't as good as everyone thinks. Buffalo may be the most overrated team in the NFL. They shouldnt even have a winning record right now. I'm pretty hopeful to say the least.
NE is facing a better Offense against DEN then they did against SD. I expect a shootout due to Denver's shitty defense. If the rest becomes universal fact, the Jets should have the division lead by week 10.
Some people never learn. You guys shouldn't be counting your chickens. Ask the Giants after that game at Cleveland. Winning on the road is always tough in the NFL. The Raiders were playing very competitive football before Kiffin got fired. They stunk it up yesterday but think about it.......Oakland playing at New Orleans was like the Jets playing at San Diego. Both teams were desperate for a win and were highly motivated. I expect a tough game from the Raiders, and I expect the same from SF and Seattle. At Seattle is an extremely tough place to play.
It sucks we can't play Seattle right now. By the time we play them they might be back in top form, a top-of-their-division team. Looking at the schedule now it looks harder than I thought it was going to be. All division games will be tough, especially in this division. Denver, Tennesse, both playoff teams. San Fran isn't a pushover. All those games will be tough. Winnable of course, but not easy.
