I don't think that was totally it. I think the game plan was to get Thomas Jones and the WR's more invovled yesterday.
This trade is made even more ridiculous by realizing that even if we were to get TG and I hope we don't; it is not like he will come in here and light it up; it would take a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks for him to get comfortable with the offense; guys, that takes us to the half way point of the season. It is not worth it under any circumstances. Also we did draft Justin Keller who is still developing; give the kid a chance.
The TE's were not targeted much yesterday. Keller had a TD called back. Baker made one. Not a big days for the TE's at all, but Coles and Cotch are getting the job done for the most part.
There's only so many plays. People want Leon to get the ball more, can't figure out why Jones isn't more productive, still want to get Coles and Cotchery their numbers, then wonder why the TEs don't get the ball more and want Brad Smith off the team because he "doesn't do anything". The game is only so long and you can only do so many things.
Agree. TG would be a nice addition, but expensive for a short term rental in an area that is not a pressing need. We have good, not great TE's. I don't see the front office spending a pick or two for Gonzalez at this time.
If they'll take Baker even up, I'm for it. If it involves Keller or ANY draft picks from us, forget it. So, I'm against it.
Whats with all this BS about the old one Tony Gonzalez. Seriously though, we have 3 TE's, and I think alot of us expect Dustin Keller to be a Tony Gonzalez type TE. I just dont get this stuff....
Pretty much what I thought. It was clear the coaching staff wanted to put the ball in TJ's hands. How is that funny? It is one of our deepest positions. Dustin Keller is a beast in the waiting....
What do you mean? The guy can still play, and we're getting no production from the TE spot. We can always use a HOF TE. Seriously, this guy is very very good... We can use him and we do need him.
I think adding a hungry HOF TE into the mix is certainly not going to make us worst. I think it will definetley elivate us to another level.
ridicoulous, if the numbers work which you are I dont know, its a no brainer for a 5th rounder or even a a 6th and baker, the guy is a stud. If it improves your team it improves your team'
That is what I was thinking the whole time I was reading the article. The writer totally skipped the fact that the main reason the NFL trade deadline sucks is because it takes players multiple weeks to learn new systems. Obviously some positions like RB will be quicker then others to adjust, but a position like TE where you have to learn all the routes and learn the blocking schemes it could take a bit. TG would not be fully effective in our offense for a few weeks.
So come playoff time (provided we are in good shape at that point) Tony G would be in a nice groove? Were's the problem? You have to get this guy if you can as long as it doesn't break your bank. He's a TE, what does he need to learn? He knows how to block and how to run his routes... what else is there. Its not like he is a QB.
It is not funny in a football way and that is about as much as I can say right now. If you need further clarification, ask johnnyD in one of the other forums.
