http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/preview08/columns/story?id=3530077 I'm not going to post the entire article, but I will post the 1st and last place that made this list, and the entire AFC East to see how we fair against our rivals, as well as how we compare to the assholes we share the building with. Seems we got a pretty crappy tailgate factor, average presence in other stadiums, average loyalty and average fan creativity. But at least other fans hate us, so... ------------------------------------------------------------- What you do think? Agree? Disagree? Anyone got crazy stories?
I'm amazed the fish came in ahead of four other fan bases. Secondly, they don't take a long enough view. Once the patsies re-start their losing ways they will drop quickly down these rankings. They get way too many props for LDF and loyalty. How the jets don't get a top ranking for loyalty is beyond me.
I'll probably anger some people here saying this, but what the hay. As a "recent jet fan acquisition" who's now watched two home games on TV ... I'm sorry, the Jets fans who actually attend the games (what this article is about) suck, in the aggregate. In comparison to Packer fans anyway. Sure the Jets have sold out lots of games in a row (or so I trust that the article is correct here), but if a big percentage of them leave before the game is done ... like I've seen happening en masse when the camera cuts to the quarter-empty stands in the fourth quarter ... so what. You pretty much NEVER see that at Lambeau. Jets relatively fans are good at buying tickets, that's what this says; but being interested enough to show up/stick around ... I'm seeing a whole different story.
unfortunatley i live in the dc area and skins fans are ridiculous. fedex, 90,000, is packed to the brim every game and they probably could be a little higher. their are rumors of an evil dan snyder plot to knock down rfk and put up a 110,000 seat dome. that s*** would be intense. i feel like we would be top 10 if we had our own stadium
How witty. Ah, so the definition of "good fan" for you is "won't get bored and leave before the half" or "can devote at least an hour to paying attention to the game." The fact that you imply staying to watch the whole game isn't necessary to be a good fan speaks volumes. You should go to games at Lambeau sometime before you start dissing. The party starts at 7-8am, and runs right past the end of the game. No cows allowed.
I'm sure its a great time, and I'd love to go some day. Maybe the reason the party lasts all day is because its the only source of entertainment for miles around. Doesn't make you any better than Jets fans.
I think the fans who I feel bad for the most is the Seahawks. Nowhere have I HEARD a crowd turn into that true 12th man on the field to help their team. According to the article, the city of Seattle has an ordinance that prevents fans from tailgating at the stadium, which kept them from being in the top 10. That must suck hard.
No, Jets fans are Packers fans rooting for a team with white pants and helmuts. Duh. Really, I love the Pack. The always seem to lose to the Jets.
You know, planning a trip to Lambeau (especially when the Packers and Jets face each other again) would be a nice trek for...well, any football fan for that matter. There's so much history in that building, IMO, it would be a pretty sweet road trip in the near future.
have you ever been in a new york traffic jam? the fans don't leave early cause they're not interested believe me. that being said i love/hate this team enough to stay to the bitter end no matter what.
It sucks to not have Brett Favre anymore, eh? Now you gotta deal with us when you want to discuss him. Brett the Jet, baby!
When we were at Shea, things were different. It was hoopla, temporary stands shaking, people staying. You could actually take kids to the game, no problem. You were closer to the field, at least on the lowest levels. We all loved the diamond on the field.., especially when it got wet. Grass stains over everyones uniform. It was football the old-fashioned way, kind of like Lambeau I would imagine. Now, the Jets are a pain in the ass to get to, the fans want to get drunk before the game, and its a pain in the ass to get home too. While "Giants" stadium sat more folks and was more modern, it had no personality; at least one the jets could adopt. Its been a terrible period of homelessness for the Jets and her fans. Nothing replaces your own stadium. I hate the idea that we are going to share another stadium with the giants except that it is better than playing in Giants stadium. We're the only team who must bear this cross. The whole world wept at New Orleans having to play a season outside their own stadium. We've played like 25 YEARS! Who should not weep for us? PS: I am not denying it was a terrible ordeal for the folks of NO. May they have peace and prosperity.
Are those Season Ticket Waiting List numbers correct? Jets = 9,000 and Giants = 130,000? That's a pretty big spread. Maybe that's what it was before the announcement of the PSLs, but I doubt those numbers are accurate now for the Giants.
& NYC traffic jams back to LI. Although my family does the "post game tailgate" to let traffic thin out. Still takes hours
i agree with you on everything but getting drunk before the game. nothing wrong with enjoying a jack and coke at 930 in the morning.
