yeah prolly the same morons who thought favre was a mistake, when this kid gets used to the new position and starts doing well everyone will jump of the band wagon. well except don, i think we could go to the super bowl and gholston can make a sack cause a fumble and return it for a td which gives us a win and hed still say drafting gholston was a mistake.
My thing is with the FO and to me to have such a high pick in last years draft and take a chance on a player you want to convert from one position to another is a waste of time.. Coming into the season we were a must win team right now. Not a let's wait a couple of years to have a player develope his pass rush. True or not true? Were we not looking for immediate impact? Pressure on the QB ? Type of player I wouldn't even mind if he was rusty with his skills just as long as he was in two feet of the ball on 50% of the plays. To be that big and have all those muscules and be highly praised like he was so far has been a bust. Hopefully he will pan out for us otherwise if it wasn't for our fourth round picks over the years we would have nothing to be excited over.
I could not agree with you more. While Gholston has not made the splash that Harris made when he got to play, Give the kid some time before you end his carreer.
With the play of Thomas and especially Pace, who to my surprise has been a beast, I dont see why you need to worry about Gholston taking time to develop. Thomas and I dont think pace either have any real history with injuries(knock on wood) so let this kid sit behind them and get up to speed, and if he doesnt amount to anything then that sucks but hey he wouldnt be the first, first round bust made by a team. If you get that much heartache from it just let your eyes wander to our backfield and enjoy the steal(again knock on wood) we got in Dwight Lowery. BTW what happened to Cummings I really liked what he showed in Preseason and thought maybe we might have found a future replacement for Barton, since he's not getting any younger.
Great point. Lowery is the real deal. Our Defenseive backfield is very impressive with Rhodes Revis and Lowery. If Miller could learn to play it would be a no passing zone
Isn't it sad that this point still has to be made? All these people bitching and they seem to have little to any idea what they're bitching about. Ware. Merriman. Wimbley. Lawson. Spencer. Ellis. Phillips. All first round picks. All college DE's. I don't get why thats so complicated for people to get...and if we didn't draft Gholston and the Pats took him people would be bitching about how we missed the best pass rusher in the draft...and Mangini would be an idiot for ignoring the pass rush in the first. ANYONE we drafted to play the DE/OLB position would be a "project." Most guys don't play 2 positions...common f'n sense...
Ah those were the rumors on draft day but other sources said that all along Mayo was Belly guy not VG
Rookie Vernon Gholston was acknowledged as special teams player of the week for making four tackles in coverage, by Mangini. (NY Post)
The question isnt whether Gholston will be a good player, but if he was worthy of the 6th pick. Projects at 6 is just bad drafting. when Miami took Ginn jr. at 9 everyone laughed. Well this pick is no different except its 6 instead of 9.
Its good to see you still have a nevative thread to post in after a huge win. It just would not be TGG without our longest tenured negative nancy. Do you, Sour, and Don have a support group you all attend or is it just natural selection that makes you like this?
Or he fleeced Mangini again into taking a workout warrior, which usually never translates into a great football player
Every. Pick. Is. A. Project. It's the fucking NFL...you don't just walk in and dominate...except RBs... And Ginn Jr. was laughed at because he was a kick returner...a light one at that...and he was injured at the time... Fucktard Pats fan.
I know I sound like a broken record when I say this but ... He was projected to go at #6 well before the combine. He holds sack records at THE Ohio State university. He was drafted because he was a good college football player, not because he has big muscles. Whether he works out or not, I don't think workout warrior is a fair label.
From my understanding Robertson shot up the draft charts after the combine. That was not the case with Gholston.
I do not think you were on TGG board at the time of DeW drafting however in any case you are using the EXACT same excuse for VG that others used for DeW some years back
No I wasn't, but I'm not making any excuses for anything. Robertson shot up the draft charts after the combine. Gholston did not. What is so hard to understand about those two statements Champ? I'm not saying Gholston will or will not be good. I'm simply saying that the workout warrior label is inappropriate in this case.
