No he didn't. Watch the goddamn replay. Look at his feet.. he pushed off, but he didn't go airborne. And it's impossible to not lead with your helmet when you're running, but he clearly didn't spear. His facemask is headed forwards into Boldin's shoulder when Rhodes jumps from behind to push him down. What Smith was doing was making a clean tackle. This has nothing to do with being a homer.. just open your eyes and look at the film.
I feel bad for Smith. 50k for a guy like him is like 1/4 of his salary. They need to do this by percentages to make it fair for Vet minimum players.

I agree. The hit was ugly. There was no intent involved, and it sucks for Smith, but it happened. I've only seen the hit a few times, but Smith is a big hitter, and helmet-to-helmet hits are dangerous.
For the record, the fact that I'm a Jets fan makes my defense of Smith an even greater statement. I've seen Smith play and you can be sure it has NOTHING to do with me wanting him to come back next Sunday.
