That's the point, of course - the pitch to Church was clearly outside, yet in this half-inning all of a sudden all the close ones were called balls.

I was looking through my old Mets ticket stubs.

I went to the 4-30-95 game in the mezzanine section. The ticket only cost one dollar. The '94 strike must have had something to do with that.

Is it "done" to have someone pitch on 3 days rest twice in a row nowadays? Just curious.

Props to Santana, I mean, what else is there to say? Money well spent, and at the very least, some bullpen help will pump me up for next year.

Sabathia will be doing it 3 straight times if the Mets win this game or the Brewers lose their game.

"Too close to take"? Give me a break, Keith - this ump has been disgraceful.

I haven't been more confident in a Mets pitcher in some time than any time Santana has taken the mound the past couple of months. You just know he's going to pitch well, period.

I actually got chills after that called third strike.

Whatever happens tomorrow, it will be such a shame if he doesn't at least complete the shutout here - given the situation, so far this ranks right up there with the best-pitched games in Mets history.

Incredible. This is what it's like to have an ace.

santana has showed more heart in this game than most of our bullpen has shown all season. what a pitcher.

Great point: This surpasses Leiter in '99 for me.

I remember when Maine pitched a game like this last year.

It reminds me, somewhat uncomfortable, of Maine's game in Game 161 of last season.

I have never liked the Cubs more than I like them today and tomorrow. They better not fuck this up.

if nothing else, i'd hope the cubs actually want the mets in the postseason given the way we performed against their AAA team this week...

Well, Leiter did get the team into the postseason, so it was a bigger game, but the Mets went up early in that game, making it less pressure for Leiter. Seaver's 1969 game 4 WS start, Matlack's 1973 game 2 NLCS start, Bobby Jones' 2000 game 4 NLDS start, and Hampton's 2000 game 5 NLCS start were all postseason, so you have to weight them highly, but all except for Seaver's were fairly easy wins. The dire situation both mathematically and psychologically and the closeness of the game have made this pretty special so far.

Anyone going to go streaking on Sunday night if the Mets get a playoff spot or at least force a 1-game playoff vs Milwaukee?
