Brett Favre was the Packers' young star, Kurt Warner an undrafted free agent. To this day, the only thing Favre remembers about Warner was the time he disobeyed the quarterbacks coach in practice, refusing to go in for a particular play. At the time, Warner said he wasn't ready to lead the starting offense, not even for one snap. Favre was dumbfounded. What kind of longshot passes up a chance like that? "He's not afraid to go in now," Favre said this week, smiling. Truth be told, you can't keep Warner out. Seven years after his last great season with the Rams, and four years after being replaced by Eli Manning in New York, Warner is back near the top, the NFL's second-rated passer (111.7). On Sunday, he returns to his old haunt, the Meadowlands, to lead the Cardinals (2-1) against Favre's Jets. Favre turns 39 next month. Warner is 37. They're a couple of old lions, chasing one more chance at Super Bowl glory. "We're both still playing at a high level and competing," Warner said. "That part is fun because you realize in this business that a lot of people want to throw you out when you get old." Warner called their longevity a "badge of courage." Maybe he should have said medal of honor. Between them, they have five NFL MVP awards, two Super Bowl rings, 12 Pro Bowls, 87,000 passing yards and 606 touchdown passes. "Everybody says they think something disappeared from the time that I won my last MVP to last year," said Warner, whom many believed was washed up after being dumped by the Rams in 2003. "Nothing has changed. I never forgot how to play football." The Jets (1-2), coming off a blowout loss Monday night in San Diego, aren't going to be in a nostalgic mood. As much as they respect Warner, the most famous former grocery-store clerk in football history, the Jets have a plan to stop the Cardinals' quarterback: Early intervention. "If you can get to him early and disrupt him a little, then he's a different guy," safety Kerry Rhodes said. There's some truth to that. Looking at Warner's fourth-quarter passing numbers, you'd think he plays for the quarterback-challenged Chiefs - 7-for-13, 39 yards, with no touchdowns, one interception and a passer rating of 27.4. His ratings for the first three quarters are no lower than 113.9. The scouting report on Warner is that he holds the ball too long, leaving himself vulnerable to sacks and fumbles. He likes to throw downfield, an all-or-nothing mentality, but he is being taught by the Arizona coaches to look for his check-down receivers.

It kind of baffles me. This guy (Warner) was a fumble machine when he was on the giants. I guess it makes your job a lot easier when you have Fitz and Boldin to throw to on the outside. But he is playing his heart out so far this year. Lets hope we put a quick end to that on sunday.
I hope to hell our D can get off the field on 3rd down this week. I doubt it but we can always hope, right?
I am more worried about Kurt Warner of the present. Last season, second half, no QB was better then him on the field.
I agree, he got on a roll. As Warner says, "I never lost anything" This will be a huge test for the secondary, namely Lowery as he will be facing a number one receiver no matter what, because both AZ wideouts are #1s. Plus, look out for Leonard Pope in the red zone. 6' 8", huge target. I am hoping for tons of pressure on Warner, can't let him get on a roll.
Warner scares me...I just think of the days with the Rams...They were really the greatest show on turf and Warner and the Rams could put up 35+ on any given Sunday... Lets just hope we can pressure Warner into making key mistakes
