at least everyone is in on the act. the bullpen once again not only blows a game but puts it completely out of reach for a comeback.

Look, a fly ball. How many times would one of those have won this game?

My blood pressure really can't handle being a fan of this team.

And now instead of being tied in the loss column after the Braves gave us a gift with the division lead, now we are one game away from being in oblivion with Pedro on the mound. Terrible loss. Wright deserves to be blasted for his choke job.

That can be said about most humans on this earth, unless it is a fan of our rivals then they can't contain the laughter.

and that wraps this season up for me. my wife makes fun of me for being so optimistic, but I have none left for this team, and am not a glutton for punishment that needs to endure these final 4 games to see how many ways the team can find to lose.

it's easy to blame it on the relief pitching, but the Mets are equally one of the worst hitting teams with runners in scoring position I can remember watching.

it's easy(and correct) to blame it on the relief pitching. mets players continue to suprise me though, right after the milledge trade i didn't think i'd ever dislike church any more then i did right then, but here we are.

of course that's just another in the long line of disastrous omar transactions. you know the guy that's getting a 4 year contract extension for his excellent work.

those last 3 innings weren't even about hitting with RISP either. the mets had 6 chances to get a run in without a hit and they failed at all of them. i bet that hasn't happened too often, ever, let alone in consecutive innings.

Thanks to posts counting in the Baseball Forum, I have now moved into the top 20 in total post counts, and have more posts than anyone who joined TGG since February 2005. I'll probably be dropping on the list soon, however, since it looks like I won't be posting here any more soon, and the Jets Forum is pretty much uninhabitable.

I thought sports was supposed to be some sort of release from your day-to-day cares?

Haha that's funny, I work in sports so for me you would think I'd be better equipped to handle the yearly failure of my teams. It's amazing but other than the Devils winning 3 Cups and the Nets losing back to back NBA Titles I haven't even whiffed one of my teams playing for a championship in over 20 years. The worst part is that those two teams are so far behind the Mets and Jets it's not even funny. It's not like I'm throwing things at the wall when Broudoer lets in a winning goal in the 2nd round of the playoffs to knock out the Devils. Now when Mota stole game 2 away from victory 2 years ago I was livid for hours and unlike my friends on the East Coast it was only dinner time for me when that happened.

I just stopped watching last night after that triple went to waste, went to dinner and a movie and just started yelling at my wife in the car when I heard the final score.

It's an uphill battle at this point so I'm planning on spending Sunday at the park with my 10 month old. The Jets and Mets will likely lose all but ending the season for both of them. No reason to watch those two trainwrecks.

yeah, I'm completely losing my mind with this shit. Last night I was going to great lengths to avoid knowing what was going on in the game. I did, by complete mistake find out the Gado hit the GS and we were up 5-1 (happend to hit YES whle flipping and saw a replay). I happily just tuned my attention elsewhere and was content in wating till around 10p to see what happened.

The wife is on the phone with my sister (who's a big Met fan)....next thing I know, my wife gasps and says, "Oh my god, they blew the lead already! they were just up 5-1".....

of course I fly off the handle and begin screaming at my wife and my sister through the phone to shut the hell up and knew righ there the rest of the evening was doomed.

This is what 2 collapses does to fans

worst part is, had tixx to both the Jets and Mets games Sunday and had to make a choice last week as to which I would attend......chose the Mets figuring it was the last game at Shea and might be a huge game....why do I feel lke that was a huge mistake

The thing that gets me about the Mets is it's so rare that they can just lose a game without there being some calamity that makes it worse then a normal loss.

Like tonight, if Pedro gives up 4 in the first and the Mets lose 7-2 I wouldn't even get that upset because that's what I expect. But I'm sure he'll pitch 6 shutout innings, the bullpen will blow the lead and the Mets will hit into 5 DPs with the bases loaded to lose or something.

Yeah, with only rare exceptions it's been a tough 20 years. I was at just the right age to revel in the glory years of the late 60s and early 70s, seeing a Super Bowl win, a World Series win and loss, and two NBA championships (and another loss in the finals). Just as that turned, the Islanders became great fun to watch and eventually one of the best hockey teams ever, and I was there for all of it (with season tickets). Just as they started getting old, the Mets stepped up in the mid-to-late 80s as the best team in baseball. Little did I realize that their failure in 1988 was actually the end of 20 years of a lot of success and the beginning of 20 years of mostly misery with my teams.

It's clearly time again for 20 years of plenty after these 20 years of famine.
