Funny to think that the Jets haven't actually fired a coach since 1994!!!

As people above have pointed out: the Jets went out of their way to hire an offensive line coach with previous experience as a head coach in Bill Callahan. If Mangini gets the boot before the season is over I expect Callahan to be the interim coach.

If Mangini gets the boot in the offseason I expect the Jets to take a trunkful of cash to Pete Carroll and try to pry him away from USC and come back here for a second time. He's one of the few coaches out there who has stature and who also understands exactly what it's like to coach the Jets in the NYC media meatgrinder. As much as I'd like him to Cowher isn't going to come to NY to coach the Jets. You need some history here at this point to make the job even remotely appealing, and a sense of unfinished business.

The Jets are the worst coaching job in professional sports, bar none.

    I'll answer it simply...

Pay Carroll $10 million a year and give him FULL CONTROL of Personel and he'll leave USC the next day.

Do I think it'd work with him being Head Coach AND GM? Probably not...But why not gamble at this point? We have in the past.

Have you been paying attention to what is happening out in Oakland?

None of those jobs have remotely the pressure and exposure that goes with being the Jet's head coach. No Jet's head coach has retired happy ever. Weeb is the closest and even he had to deal with the Namath injuries and a collapsing team at the end.

That's as bad as Oakland gets and the Kotite era makes it look like a tea party.

Nonsense, what does Kotite have to do with your theory that the Jets are the worst coaching job in professional sports? Its not even close brand new state of the art practice facility brand new stadium, loyal owner that has shown a willingness to spend some dough & some good young talent makes the Jets an attractive spot for a new HC, should the need arise.

Although I stand by the fact that it is completely ridiculous to be talking about a new HC after Wk 3.

Gotta love Mangini getting blamed for this one....give me a break....did he throw two ints that led to 14 pts or fumble the ball that led to another 7...no he didn't....Mangini isn't going anywhere and Cowher will be coach in Carolina next year!!!

bring in rex ryan, and he'll get some guys in the draft who can tackle, pass rush like the front 3 in balt or the pats, and we can finally stay in games even if the offense has a bad day.

get rid of marty, err, brian shott and bring in a guy other than woody hayes mangini to call the plays.

If Mangini goes, I'd like somone from the bill walsh tree - they seem to find good QBs and sustain winning..

    I remember Art Rust Jr.!

    He was GREAT!

I loved the way he described stuff, like the "matador defense" (heard it since, but he said it first)... "The big ball orchard in the South Bronx"...

And best of all, when he wished you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year?

"Have a Cool Yule and a Crazy Set of Twelves!"

    Sheer poetry!

Mike Martz, OC for San Francisco.

Good offensive mind. Architect of the "Greatest Show on Turf" Rams offense in 1999. Look what a turnaround SF has had since last season under him. Roy Williams from Detroit is openly wishing their current offense was more like last season's when Martz was in control. And SF runs a 3-4 so Martz would be familiar with the defensive scheme as well.

F Cowher. The Steelers have done well without him.
F Pete Carroll - He sucked once.
F Bruce Coslet - He had the worst haircut of any Jets coach.
F Rich Kotite - He now cuts my grass here on SI.
F Bill B in NE - Do I have to list ALL my reasons?
Lets go Mangini and the Jets!!!

What's with the Carroll love? He's a great college coach, but the NFL is a whole different monster. I don't even think he'd want the job. Not in NY. Look what's happened with Mangini...genius to gina in 19 games.

What coach could have won with the talent on last year's roster? The O-line was terrible.

Carroll is one of those guys who will want full control of football operations. Some unsuspecting franchise owner will be enamored by him and will throw a boat load of money at him (Detriot has an opening I hear).

We lost to two good teams. Give it a rest until we play a few of the lesser teams. If we are in dire straits then, we can all begin to worry about the coach and such...
