We just signed this guy. I'm Just joking.
Bring in Steve O'Neal. He still holds the record for longest punt in NFL history 98 yards. Well, he might break a hip now.
The good thing is...Tangini is being active about strengthening & improving the team. This keeps a fire lit under the players. Produce or....Va-moose...
As far as I'm concerned this is a year too late. This Oz guy was a liability last year and should have hit the highway long before now. I hope Mangini has earned a lesson here, I don't want to wait until December to find out that Sutton or Shottenheimer don't have what it takes. accountability is required from here on in Jets.
Move came way too late Many here were calling for his head last season when he was just as inconsistent as he has been the first two weeks. Graham should have been cut after camp and the job should have been Kapinos's. Mangini didn't go with the better guy in this instance. Remember how many articles we read about how tough his punt would be to catch? Yeah... that was some excellent scouting. This move came about a year too late as far as I'm concerned. Given how important field position is, having at least a decent punter can make a huge difference. The Giants have rode Jeff Feagles for years and, without a doubt, is a big part of their success.
About 2-3 years too late but I'm happy. No offense to Graham but he's been awful since a decent rookie year.
Not defending Graham, because he's punted like shite lately, but the Jets made him change his punting style.
As far as Graham going, it's a good move. He's an easy guy to make a statement with and he's been poor this season. A big boomer of a punt could have totally changed the dynamic of that Pats game but he couldn't nail one. As far as holding, Madden always said he liked his backup QB to hold, not because of potential fakes, but because it kept him mentally in the game. There's something to be said for that.
Nice one... But it has been pointed out already though. PS. Is it only me but I can't select "quote" button on any of the posts but mine, weird. The only button on the posts I can click is "quick reply"...
If I recall correctly, when he first came aboard, he took an extra step or two between the time he caught the snap and the time he actually punted the ball. they made him change his technique because the extra step increased the likelihood of the kick being blocked (though I dont recall any kick being blocked his first season). But you're right- they did make him alter his technique.
His famous knuckle punt never materialized, I don't recall a returner dropping any of his punts, at the end my son and I called him Noodle-punt because his punts looked like some of the Chad's passes...
