This is basically what I am hoping for. I don't expect to land some guy that can pin them inside the 10 all day long, but at least give us a chance. I had hope for Graham after '06, but he never got any better after that season, just progressively worse. So much for the helicopter kicks. I'm getting sick of experiments.
I said it earlier & mentioned after one of Jets' pre-season games how Graham was getting out-punted by a huge margin & somebody tried to point out some crazy stat to me. It seems like alot of these posters are watching the Jets' games on the radio.
I graduated from WM with Sauerbrun in 1991. He was an arrogant douche then, and from what I remember when he was on Carolina, he still his. Screw him, let him stay unemployed.
I believe the best punter in Jets and league history is currently unemployed. I speak, of course, of Tom Tupa.
I have a question. Ben was pretty good his first season here right? His ball would go x number of yards but would bounce and go back another 10-15 yards. Now someone suggested that the Jets made him change the way he punted, therefore eliminated the bouncing punts. Is this true? If so why did they make him change. He was pretty successful, especially if someone went to try and catch it, it would bounce out of their hands.
Funny story about Brett Favre being a placehold on field goals... ...I think the first AND last time Brett Favre did it, he caught the snap, set it down, planted it on the field and... ...he took his hands off the ball. Literally. He just let go of the ball. Now, the ball balanced itself for a mili-second right before the kicker kicked it, and it was good. But when Holmgren asked him why he did that, I think Brett said something like, 'I was afraid to get kicked in the balls'. He followed that statement with, "...and that was the last I was ever given that responsibility". I'll try to find this video and post it, but it was hilarious.
lmfao  I can definitely picture that whole conversation happening too. Holmgren was probably fuckin heated.
Graham deserved to go because he stunk. But this release might also mean Nugent is gone too. Nugent and Graham were a team who worked together for years. With a new kicker you can get anybody to hold and it won't mess him up. So maybe Nugent is the next to go. I don't think Mangini ever liked him.
haha i literally just said that to my roomate as i was reading the first few posts, great minds think alike
For anybody entertaining the idea of having Brett Favre become our placeholder. You may need to put up the volume for it.
I mentioned this in another thread...but it's too bad this didn't happen a week ago...we could've picked up former Packer punter Jon Ryan (he signed with the Seahawks)...he played for our CFL team (Winnipeg) before he went to Green Bay...he's a farmboy from Saskatchewan...and has a cannon for a leg. He would've been a suitable replacement.
maybe he could also replace marty shott as the offensive coordinator. i hear the jets are also looking at woody hayes, paul hackett, and amos alonzo stagg.hmy:
I liked Ben Graham. Oh well, he was not doing his job right. His job was to punt well, and he was not doing that.
Poor Benny. I was wondering the other week on how he was going, I've missed him ever since he left Geelong... He has time to come back over for the Grand Final now, though. I'd love it if we could put him in the team. What is the oldest players over there that are playing professionally? He's getting pretty old and would've retired by now if he was at Geelong still.
I think his coming to the NFL was his retirement anyway. I don't think he was going to play on in the AFL. I think there are two punters that are 41/42. Favre is still older than him, so age isn't his problem at Punter.
