I love the stat he uses "Chad was sacked 20% of his pass attempts last leason". He fails to mention favre was rushed on 45% of his passes last season, and only sacked 5% of those rushes. Let me tell you as a GB fan, the line play has been horrible for 4 years in GB in terms of pass protection. Last season was no different. Want to know why Favre killed everyone last year on the slants? 1. He had to get rid of the ball fast, or get sacked. 2. Due to the Defense knowing they can pressure favre every other play, the DB's sat back to not allow favre to chuck a quick deep pass - which he still did over 5 times last season for TD's. In article making, and specificially point making, the person making the point only ever uses stats that help his cause, and never can answer when someone throws the same stat in his face from the other side. Chad, last season, was rushed to throw 33 % of the time. Of that, he was sacked 80% of the time. So, Chad's a better passer? Possibly, unless of course you put pressure on him. In all statistical categories - Favre has always performed at his best with pressure in his face. Welcome to the NFL. There are very few offensive lines like the colts and patriots that give the QB 5 seconds to throw. Favre can avoid the rush, Chad can't. Favre can make quick decisions and get the ball out quick, Chad can't. Favre can scramble even at age 39, something I have never seen chad do. ANd, if you don't believe me on scrambling, Favre had a rushing TD LAST SEASON, and a 35 yard run down the sidelines JUST AFTER the anouncers said the one thing favre doesn't have anymore is mobility. Whenever people and have told favre he can't - he proves them wrong. So, favre wasn't even the best when he was busying winning a superbowl, going to another, and getting three straight MVP awards? That's pretty funny to me.
you could have better stats if you never throw a spiral more than 7 yards...... as ratliff said, if you stand close to the field 'you can hear favre's throws zipping downfield'. and they ain't quacking....
I won't read it. Maybe the writer confused Chad Pennington with Brett Favre and Brett Favre with Chad Pennington.
How did you come across that article? Where you looking for a "massage therapist" or trying to find free movie tickets? The Village Voice is only good for lining bird cages, soaking up spills and insulation during cold nights on park benches. Anybody who 'reads' the Voice is dumber for it. Those that actually like it, well... they are a lost cause. I couldn't read the article, but saw something about the Packers having to eat Favre's salary if they cut him? I didn't know Favre's contract was guaranteed like Coles....
The Village Voice, a "great read"?! Either you're gay or ULTRA-liberal, maybe both. Are either one of those groups really into football? Did you know Favre use to play at LAMBERT Field?
I'm surprised by that and am not sure you are wrong, however, I don't think they would have to eat his salary but if they cut him he would have been Superbowl bound with Minnesota. Brett Favre with Minnesota on monday night and Minnesota wins. I think GB would have paid him 12 million to sit rather than let him go where he wanted if nobody else stepped up. The Pack wanted to a. Get something for him; and b. They did not want him in the North and preferably out of the NFC. The folks in GB would have rioted if Favre beat them in the playoffs, especially if he was a Bear or a Vike. So, off to the Jets where the only way they have to face him is in the Superbowl and if that happens everybody looks good.
no, i think they saw some stats and said "int, not sure what that means, td two a days? think i heard my son mention something like that in school. dunno if thats right...comp % oh, higher percent should mean better....yep chad wins"
Pennington a better passer than Favre? If this was the TGG "Who could rip the loudest one?" thread I could easily believe.
