first off, why doesn't he just go to Brett and talk about it? it's like he's telling on him..."hey coach, Brett's not following the playbook!!" kudos to you I guess for not being as cynical as me...but it's sounds like bitching to me.....but more importantly again, he shouldn't even be getting into this much detail about this stuff with the MEDIA!!
The whining takes this form: COLES: "Coach, that play wasn't in the playbook. How can I be expected to make catches that I don't know are coming? I need predictability. Favre is making shit up as he goes along!" MANGINI: "STFU and work it out in practice. You need to get your timing down better and be prepared to catch anything that comes your way, got it?"
Total non-story. Who gives a crap what a player says. If he starts screwing with team "chemistry" then just take him out of the mix like the Giants did with Shockey.
I agree, he should talk to Favre first. But we have no idea of what the context of that conversation was. We also don't know if he did in fact talk to Favre first. Maybe Mangini called him into his office and said, hey why didn't you break when you were supposed to here and he then went into the dialogue we see in the article. So many times the media takes things out of context to try and make something sound like something it's not. We have to be more responsible as readers of these articles than to just take them at face value. I don't trust the NY media anymore than I trust George W. Bush. As for him talking too much with the media - holy crap. When he doesn't say anything he's attacked. When he goes into details he's attacked for saying too much. Maybe we should come to a consensus as an audience as to what the appropriate level of detail LC should share with the media and relay that to him so he doesn't upset anyone. If anything, the fans are the ones acting like bitches, not coles.
"Brett wants to run things one way, then I look in the playbook and it says something different. Talking with coach (Mangini) he says whatever Brett feels like he wants to do, just do it."
but this takes me to my original point on this.....don't let yourself be "taken out of context". like I said before, i didn't give a crap about him being silent........he should just go on with that routine. the problem with that was, he "decided" to do it right after the Favre/Pennington thing.......again, making it about himself. if he talked about things so honestly in more of a team manner it wouldn't piss me off as much....but there's an awful lot of Me's and I's in whatever he says. I like the guy a lot as a player......I think he is easily goaded by the media.....I think he ought to just shut up
He said the reason he didn't talk to the media was that no matter what he said he would be looked at as a bad friend to Chad or a bad team mate to Favre. Out of respect to Chad he waited until after the first game. The outrage we see on this board about the meaningless comments in this article kind of validates his concern as to how he would be perceived no matter what he said regarding Chad and Favre. The guy can't win. Let's see how well he does once he's on the same page with Fahvra.
I don't disagree that he has a history, but these comments with no context around them give me no reason to believe he's whining. I also don't care what he says so long as he continues to produce.
agreed.....but it makes one wonder....you see all the "speculation" here about what he meant....you gottta believe teammates read that shit too and wonder what he means, human nature. of course, hopefully, their relationship as teammates is better than we know and they are all up front with each other......but as others have mentioned, there's a pattern here. Like I said, I still root for him.......and hope he gets up to speed right quick..and i imagine after this, there might be another Coles Media boycott
Well, it must be somewhat refreshing for folks to direct their anger somewhere other than at Pennington... :breakdance: We're 1-0, but like classic Jet fans, we find something to bitch about.
I like Coles. I have his jersey, but enough is enough. I'll take a scene from Remember the Titans.... I want him in NY, but he's got to do what he's got to do. If he can't get with the program then I say trade him. I'd offer New Orleans Coles and a 5th rounders for an injured Marques Colston. That'd be sick!
As long as he's producing I don't care what he says.... the chemistry will be there with Favre and Coles, but its going to have to wait until the bye week.
hey, it's a slow day and the election thread is locked! (thank the lord....oops hope that doesn't offend anyone :wink
He should have just stuck to the "not talking to the media" thing. I know he is upset and he has a right to be, but he is not looking at the big picture. Football is a business, and shit happens. Get over it. Is the end game not to win? Brett Favre has done enough to earn the right to have some control of his offense; sorry Lav, but you're a WR, not a QB. This means that as a teammate, you are going to have to go along with the QB's decisions if it's OK with the coach. Anyway, I just hope that Favre will look at this as a WR being a WR and not as an insult. Maybe they will talk again, I don't know, but if Coles doesn't bust his ass as if Chad were the QB, I say trade him and put in Stuckey and see if we can pick up another safety.
I thought Coles dogged it a bit on Sunday and should have dove for that pass in the end zone. There was some degree of difficulty but it was a very catchable pass. Stop with this man crush Coles. Chad's gone and moved on. You need to as well.
