This sums up all that is wrong with CP. Cimini wrote this They didn't have that under Chad Pennington. He was popular among his teammates, but he was a methodical, by-the-book, 10-play-drive kind of quarterback. Problem was, the nickels and dimes didn't add up to a whole lot of money at the end of the day. That was the case on Sunday. He completed almost twice as many passes as Favre, but what did it get him? A big 'L.' The Jets respect Pennington too much to say anything bad about him, but it's obvious they're smitten with Favre's charisma and go-for-broke approach.
Very true..... The problem in my eyes is that with CP he will dink and dunk you all day and drive the field doing it, however in my opinion the more plays you run the more chance you run of having something go wrong (sack, fumble, int). That was always my problem with Chad, he would get us down the field but then couldnt get the TD. Prime example is what happened in the game last Sunday, he did everything right all the way down the field and then threw the INT.
That is pretty much the size of it. Other Qb's get it done despite what the defense is willing to give them. Chad nickle and dimed to yet another loss this weekend.
I agree with all, but for the Dolphins he is head and shoulders above what they have/had. He can definately get the job done while the rest of that team comes together. He always was a slightly above average QB. He can win games while the team around him contributes as well, but he could never and still can not win a game by himself.
Well unless you cash in those nickel/dimes for TDs it is saying that he has a ton of stats but nothing else to show for his career & the reason why he is no longer our QB. This article should prove how truly worthless pointing out stats are in attempting to prove why a player is sooooooooo great like some on this board love to do. In essence it said CP won the stats war which he does in most games but lost the game where is truly what a starting QB should not be doing
The two QBs are night and day. Favre can dink and dunk also, but he'll give you the wake-up call to keep you honest, like the bomb he threw to Cotchery, so there's that total added dimension. I like the way he ad libs. Every exciting QB I've ever loved had that... the ability to "make it happen" when the book options run out. With Chad, it was always going to be the scripted checkdown and then the throw-away, or worse, the Chinese Firedrill and the sack or fumble.
You know better then that Winston. Chad has always been good at moving the ball, but when things get tight in the red zone, or late in games while behind when you need to make big plays to win, is where he has had his problems. Its not that Chad can't make the smart play, its that he rarely makes the tough plays in big spots.
Week 1 was a perfect summary of Chad's career. Always keeps you in the game, stats will look nice in the box score, but always comes up short in the end.
Looking at the differences, you have to look at the play calling opportunities that the coaching staff can now utilize with Favre's arm strength. NFL Films has a nice breakdown on Cotch's TD in the Miami game. It shows how teams have to defend a quarterback who can throw the ball 60 yards in the air, even when a play looks like a run formation. NFL.com has a great story/video today on the anatomy of that play before the ball was even snapped. Definitely worth a look.
Pennington was a great QB when we had a likewise good running game. In the past few years when our running game sucked he was no longer effective with his style of play.
Nothing. Nada. But at least we played better games. Nobody has "won" anything for us but Namath and that will most likely still be true after Favre leaves too but a measure of respectability is better than 4-12 seasons.
Yes that is correct but at least BF gives us a shot at winning the big prize whereas CP gave us none, zippo, zero.
