Mike Nugent = Guy getting buttfucked by the board this week. We're all a bunch of whores. Gholston. Clemens. Pennington. Thomas. Barrett. Mangini. Sutton. Schotty. It's someone new every week. He's a good kicker. It's really weird how we resent our players so much. Kinda makes them feel like family. Feely's alright. Hopefully Nugent's injury isn't serious.
Why not? How many times are you allowed to miss 32 and 22 yarders with in 2-3 wks? He's missed way too many easy chipshots that a second rounder should miss. A second rounder is supposed to be near perfect on 40 and below, around 80% on 40-50 and atleast 50% on 50+yds.
Yea? Thats how we grade kickers? By what round they were drafted in so many years ago? BTW: How many kickers actually do what you're asking there? Mason Crosby did it last year...but *averaging* that over a few years would be tough as hell.
If you're talking about that Detroit game in 2000, we had a LOT of problems in that game. It wasn't just his fault. Plus, don't forget the eventual SB champions made us look silly the next week, especially on ST.
Its just the way you would grade a high draft pick kicker. Janikowsky was a first rounder and he proved every bit of that. Nick Folk was what a 6th rounder? Our Nuge was Second rounder and no where near any other second rounder I know. If a kicker cant make 40yds or shorter field goals, he's useless. Nugent can kick 50 yarders, but if you're not consistent, then join Vanderjagt in Toronto. He might tell you how to miss a few more...
People hate Nuge because they haven't gotten over the fact that he was a second round pick. No kicker should be a second round pick and he will never live up to his draft status. That doesn't change the fact that he has done a good job as a Jets kicker for the most part. You are going to have a hard time finding a Jets kicker that has made the percentage of field goals that Nugent has over his career.
