I thought Chad did go "deep" once and Lowery was there to break it up, no? All in all a solid debut for Lowery. He'll have his ups-and-downs this season, but he showed more ability to play corner in 4 quarters that Justin Miller has in 3 years, so that is a positive.
Not so sure I would agree with you. Lowery definitely plays faster than his 40-yd time. His technique is definitely better than Miller's and he also plays run support forcefully and with no hesitation. Sometimes way too much emphasis is given to the triangle numbers. The only question that really matters and was answered clearly is yesterday is.......CAN THE GUY PLAY? Revis + Lowery > Revis + Miller.
I didn?t want to take anything away from Lowery. I just said, if I would be that OC and can have the Matchup of a speedster like Ginn against a Rookie-CB drafted in the 4th round because of speed questions, I would go deep on him early to at least keep the Kid guessing and prevent him from jumping my outroutes. Penny?s throws played to Lowery?s strenghts and gave him confidence early. If he would have started thinking early, who knows if he would have made those two delections late in the game. Those guys are human, too. And a Rook, who was fighting for a rosterspot 3 weeks ago and is starting now, has got to be nervous. I think he couldn?t have a better matchup to start his NFL-carrer.
Miller deserves a shot to show what he has too. Lowery didn't have to worry about the deep ball at all today. The Rookie still looked great in his first game, but it was the Dolphins and Noodle arm.
Lowery has shown in pre-season and in the first game that we don't need to consider bringing Justin Miller back into a starting role. Lowery's play is essentially ensuring that Justin Miller will not be a NY Jet after this season. I don't care who they were playing- Lowery played tight and smart, outside of the one pass he gave up that resulted in a TD.
Lost one TD, but shut Chad and the phins down on two other goalline attempts. I could not be happier with the kid. For a rookie starting his first game he looked great.
Lowery is better than Miller already. I can't remember the last time the Jets had such talent on both corners.
He should have had help from Eric Smith who was badly out of position on the play. The D looks very solid after week one.
Lowery looked like a 5 year vet out there yesterday. He was no rookie. And the guy was tested play after play. Chad kept throwing right at him and Lowery responded every time. The kid has skills.
I co-sign Eric Smith was out of position on the TEs yesterday he didn't come over the top to help the LBs
Miller's contract will run out next year. But the team is going to need to draft another CB in the late rounds for depth. The building must never stop, like the Colts do, Steelers, Cowboys etc. This team needs to draft a Safety in the early rounds next year.
He looked good. Thats all im saying because of who the competition was. Lets see him cover....... i dont even know who plays opposite Moss now a days.
Lowery did good in his very good good in his first game, but doing that against while being matched up against some walk in from Hawaii isn't a lock for anything IMO. I what to see what Miller has to offer, because you can't teach physical talent.
Remember that Miller wouldn't have made very many plays we saw Lowery make yesterday, as he's never looking at the ball, only the receiver.
That's not really fair. They were throwing at him and he made the plays. It's not like the wr was dropping passes when they were open.
