It's been the rule for quite some time now. 30, 40 years ago perhaps it was not the rule. In my NFL viewing lifetime (1984 to present) it's always been the rule, as far as I can recall.
It certainly is not the rule in OT, and this should be the exact same situation. Personally, if I was the coach I would refuse to send my players out for the extra point on either offense or defense (or I would use the biggest scrubs on the team).
Yeah, it's not the rule in overtime because the first score decides overtime games. I think a team can refuse to kick an XP.
Interesting scene in the 4th quarter of the Cardinals game- Rookie cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was on the field as a wide receiver. He ran a go route and had the corner beat. Unfortunately, Kurt Warner threw the pass too late and Cromartie had to go back for the ball and the pass was broken up. I bet the Cardinals will go back to this play in a future game because it would have been a touchdown had Warner thrown a good pass.
For those who were unable to watch the Colts home games in the preseason, turn to NBC right now to check out the new stadium. It is a really nice place. Good riddance to the RCA Dome. What an ugly dump that was.
I watched three, maybe four plays of that one. Hasselbeck horribly overthrew John Carlson on one play. When we look at his stats we can conclude Hasselbeck had a horrible game. It was raining heavily there.
The officiating in the INDY game right now is So FOS!! They are Uber Protecting Manning I assume because of Brady. Their O-Line is Tackling people and no Holding. And Just now, Sanders Speared Forte and Knocked him out of the game and there was NO CALL. Spearing is one of the worst things you can do in the NFL. Both players can get seriously injured and they do nothing about it yet Manning falls down and they call a personal foul... I am really beginning to question the NFL, If it goes the way of the NBA it will be the fall of it.
It's why Cribbs is the best returner in the game today. Cribbs doesn't fuck around like that. He just goes.
I don't know if any of you are savvy with rap music, but has anyone else noticed that whoever the DJ (or whoever plays the music) at the Colts' stadium plays Out Here Grinding nonstop? It's starting to annoy me and I'm not even there.
