The fact of the matter, we almost gave away the game. No matter what type of defense it was SUPPOSED to be, it was awful at the end. It's obvious the line needed to put more pressure on Penny at the end, it's obvious the secondary needed to play tighter and it's obvious the defense has much room for improvement.
"Checkdown Chad" was on his game at the end. We gave him the short pass and he took every one of those opportunities. Hey, that's his element... that's his game. But compare the last 5 minutes to the rest of the game and you've got the old Penny... 3rd and outs, near-interceptions, impotent ofense, no deep threat to speak of (and at best, a possible INT). We kept the Dolphins in this game and made it closer than it had to be. We're damn lucky Penny didn't pull it out, but hey, a win is a win. 1-0 Baby!
How many times did we have the Fins at 3rd and long? And how great was it to know that Chad couldnt even reach the 1st down marker? That was nice to be on the other side of...VERY NICE. Our defensive scheme was great, and did what we needed to get the W. Lets not lose sight of what we are...UNDEFEATED!!
I think the poor LB coverage forced their hand into the prevent. I think the CS staff would rather gamble with Pennington beating them deep than blitzing and exposing the underneath throws they know Pennington can make.
We did ok on the last drive. For the most part we rushed 3 or 4. Got a few pressures but now sacks. Chad did make some goodplays but fell short of winning the game. If everey QB who embarses us this season end the game in a loss I'll be very very happy.
I'm sorry, I must have missed something. Did Pennington lead them to a game winning score on that last drive? If so, then yes we sucked. If not, what we did WORKED, WE WON and this thread sucks.
Your point is valid...for today. But how valid would it be every game this season vs QBs not named Pennington? My point was that I hope we are more aggressive and put people away from now on when we have the chance.
I think you are right. I also think the same is true of every poster on this board...if being ahead coach was easy everyone ould do it
The point is, you don't ignore your team's flaws simply because you won..because chances are, those flaws will be exposed in game film and your next opponent will make you pay for it.
Once again you are trying to belittle my opinion saying i do no know what a prevent D is etc. The fact remains that we were very close to losing the game on a 2 min drive ochestrated by Chad freakin penninton. Should not have happened. Why do you prevent D him? Is he going to beat us deep? Like I said if you want to disagree fine. But don't talk down to me like your opinion is be all end all.
I'm all for putting people away, no disagreement here dude. And I suspect how they approach different QBs will vary depending on the QB/team/situation.
i agree, the person who put up this thread is an idiot, chad embarrased our d? really? until the 4th he wasnt looking too good, lets not forget on the last drive they were in a no huddle and our line was spent, they played great against the run which every jets fan was concerned about. our corners played solid... if you expect us to be perfect you're in lala land new qb, new players on both sides of the line we got a win did we win 40-3? no but last i checked a win was a freaking win.

Those are not good odds and I would rather they had passed the ball - even in that situation. Actually, I though that the 2nd and 6 would have been a perfect time to pass the ball. Maybe have Favre roll out and give him an option if someone is open. Essentially giving up on trying for the first down and giving the Jets almost two minutes (even though they had to call their last timeout) is too conservative for my tastes. If there would have been < 30 seconds after the punt (with no Jet timeouts) then I could justify three straight running plays. However, 2:00 minutes is plenty of time to score a TD. Please no Penny noodle arm QB comments - 2:00 is plenty of time to drive 60 yards - even for Penny. I'd rather try to ice the game right there.
yes, but you're a fan, not a coach so you should just be happy we got the win and that our run game showed up, jones didnt look as shitty as everyone thought he would, like i said in another threat, hes our feature back, not lw
I personally think that the offence looked like shit in the second half. And the kicker situation was fucking ridiculous. Favres horseshoe really saved our asses. With Nugent being a decent kicker we would have had 4 vs 6 points anyway so it wasn't much of a factor.
I guess i'm an idiot because i watched a game we should have cruised through nearly crumble at the end because of a QB we should know well. We LET him dink and dunk us to the redzone. I am not happy about that. WHat part of that makes me an idiot?
