Chris Cooley did all of jack sh*t this game. He had 1 catch for all of 7 yards. Why didn't they throw to him more often? The guy is only a Pro Bowl TE.
Zorn is a smart guy and will be an excellent coach. You don't become a record setting NFL QB and not know something about the game. He'll turn this team around. Unfortunately, however, it might not be with Jason Campbell. If Campbell continues to struggle for the next few games, look for him to get the hook and Zorn to roll the dice with the Hawaiian midget Colt Brennan. Zorn really likes this kid and Brennan has what it takes to run the WCO.
That poster jumps the gun all the time. You'll see soon enough. The Jets'll go down 3-0 on Sunday and he'll post that the game is over.
There was some good energy from both teams. Lots of passion. Not much in the way of making nice between the teams. I'd like to see more of that on Sunday.
What does Zorn's NFL career have to do with his ability to coach? Just check the broadcasting booths in any of the major sports for athlete's who were great and don't know a damn thing about the game. His team was completely unprepared to play and that has to reflect on the coach. A real embarassment for the Redskins franchise which is already somewhat of a joke.
Seahawks ones and stuff and largely because he was the first QB in team history. He set 'em and Dave Krieg broke 'em.
Exactly a quarter century ago, Bill Parcells made his NFL head coaching debut. His team lost by a similar score (16-6) in the same stadium where tonight's game was held. I won't bury Zorn because of one game. Let's see what happens in Maryland in 10 days when the sloppy Saints defense comes into town.
I have to go along with this. I got home in time for the 4th quarter, and I have never seen an NFL team look that unprepared for even the most basic things (like throw the ball downfield when there are 5 minutes left and you're down by 9 points). Zorn's abilities as a QB have nothing to do with it.
Again, it's not the score, it's the way the team "executed" the offense. No one thought the Redskins were a good team and I certainly didn't expect them to win this game. I also didn't expect to see inept clock management, running draws down by 2 scores deep in your own territory with 6 minutes left and 4 yard dump offs on 4th and 13. You can put some of it on Campbell but it's also the coach's responsibility to make sure stuff like this doesn't happen.
With NFL Sunday Ticket, I see a lot of this crap. It is more prevalent than we'd all expect. It's amazing how many coaches seem clueless at times. This is why I'd not be panicking if I was a Redskins fan. Now, if this crap continues, I'll join you in the Zorn bashing. I have to give him a mulligan of sorts here. Also, playing the Giants on the road in their first game at home since a Super Bowl victory did not help matters.
I essentially responded to this post prior to even reading it via my response to a statjeff22 post. If I had to grade Zorn I'd give him a D or an F for this game. I have to give him a mulligan, though, for reasons already cited.
i tell you guys....the skins looked alot like the jets have looked at times over the years against a very good team..... they only lost by 9 but that doesn't give the story. non-execution, penalties, dropped passes, missed tackles, etc etc..... i have seen many games over the last 10 years - mostly under edwards, and a couple under mangini - that looked so similar to last nights. the skins are in for a tough year jil
Skins are the early favorites for first pick in the 09 draft. They looked absolutely atrocious last night, Giants weren't very impressive either.
I think the biggest issue for the Redskins is that their passing weapons are a complete mis-match for the West Coast Offense. It appears Santana Moss is their #1 receiver. I think that's a reach in any offense, but even more of a problem in the WCO. We saw with the Jets that Moss' skills are not maximized in a short, controlled passing attack. Antwan Randle El is the #2 and still hasn't really established himself as a good NFL receiver. Both of these guys are of the smaller, quick and fast prototype. The WCO calls for bigger, more physical receivers who can catch those short passes and gring out yards after the catch. Cooley is an H Back trying to play the role of TE. Eventually, they will find a way to get him the ball more, but he too is not the typical TE you find in that system.
