Anyone else think that if one of our starting OL gets injuried we are screwed with our backups. I haven't noticed any standouts. IMO J.Bender sucks. I haven't seen any improvement from that guy. looks like he's being tutored by Adrien Clarke. These guys are doing piss poor jobs against 2nd/3rd stringers. Imagine what they'd do vs starters? I can see McCheese, Montgomery and maybe Hunter (Bender and Garner by default) making the team. None of which is even worthy to sniff starting time. Won't be surprised if we're scavenging other teams cast offs come sunday. let's hope the oline stays healthy.
Totally agree. Bender looks likes he's regressing, and the others have not been overwhelming at all. Seeing it was a win, I really came away from last nights game with a very uneasy feeling. It was driving me crazy how Buttle kept saying what great depth we have!!!! Yeah, we have a number of guys, but in many positions the drop from 1st to 2nd string is quite dramatic. Maybe I've just been a fan too long and am waiting for the unthinkable to happen
Hunter looks okay, I think he was a former 1st day pick. But I would be suprised if the FO didn't sign a veteran back up by opening day. Adrian Clarke would've been good to keep for depth.
Look for Tannenbaum to bring in some new faces off the waiver wire to shore up the OL. Right now the OL back ups are terrible and we would defenitely be hurting if we lost a starter off the OL.
Hunter has looked pretty good. And I like the versatility of Montgomery and Turner. Garner and Bender are practice squad material. They have size but need some work. I hope Tannenbaum brings in one experienced vet from the waiver wire as a backup. That would make me much more confident in our OL depth.
While this is true, it's true of virtually every team in the league. There just aren't enough good interior linemen in the league for everyone to have depth there. Bottom line is...teams that have successful seasons almost always stay injury-free. That's the key to the Jets season is to avoid the season-ending injuries around Brett. The only losing record Brett had in GB was in 2005 when he lost....count them....LOST for the season.... Javon Walker, Robert Ferguson, Bubba Franks, Ahman Green, Tony Fisher, Najeh Davenport, Noah Herron, Mike Flannigan.......not to mention starting 2 rookie guards and a rookie center. They were lining up Driver, Ruvell Martin, and Taco Wallace at WR, and running Samkon Gado at RB for the last 4 weeks of the season. And people wonder why he threw 29 picks.
O Line looks pretty shitty but fuck it hope we never have to see those big turds im happy with Faneca , Brick , Manny , Brandon and Woody Harrelson...
Last night Turner played the entire 1st & 2nd qrtr at center, he played the 3rd qrtr at Rguard all with no penalities and IMHO he did a great job. Same with Montgomery. Rich Cimini has been misinforming about Turner in the last two games. He stated Turner stepped on Clemens foot twice - this can be argued but Clemens didn’t step back fast enough & stepped in the wrong direction (see Mangini's ext day press conference) . Last week he said Turner was part of the “Penalty Pals” - WRONG, he didn’t make any penalties, neither did Hunter. We need to realize all the starters will not get injured at the same time so let’s look at the bright spots in the game and realize we have a few guys that can step in with our starters. Faneca was brought in for the few years he has left to play but more importantly for his knowledge he can impart to the younger players - he can help the guy that needs to step in, for whatever reason, step up his play. I think Turner & Montgomery make the cut but we have to go elsewhere to find a backup OT.
