He looks lost against guys that won't have jobs in a week. Arm tackling, not getting off blocks, this guy needs to show some amount of improvement during the regular season.
i'm pretty concerend about him... I understand it'll take him a while to learn, etc... but it would be nice to at least see some flashes of athleticism befitting the Draft Spot. Not sure we've seen that yet. Willing to give him a proper chance though.
I want to support him but damn. I agree, at least show proper tackling form. Someone else pointed out his trying to push players out of bounds instead of tackling a few weeks ago. Looking for it tonight, saw that a few times. Missed tackles. I just want to see something other than that one play he read and made the tackle. He just seems lost on most plays. Let's hope the light goes on soon.
thank god pace looks like hes going to come through and be the player we think he is going to be by signing him bc i would hate to have to rely on vernon to be an important part of our d this year. with pace we can give him time to learn and get better
I've seen him apply pressure a couple times this preseason, but never by any means other than over-powering the blocker.... He gets sealed on outside run plays VERY easily, and then tries to make arm-tackles, because he is out of position. He's lost in coverage, but I give him a pass for that, since he's never had to do it in the past... But, like I said before, the most discouraging, and scary thing for me is that fact that he rarely even TRIES to do anything other than overpower blockers in pass-rush situations.. And the few times I've seen him try a simple swim or rip, he's overrun the QB by 3, 4, 5 or more yards.... This scares me because it's the same concern I expressed with him leading up to the draft.... Looking at his 'highlights' from college, I not once saw him display great fundamentals... It was always making plays simply by being faster or stronger than the competition... There aren't a lot of NFL OTs that a pass-rushing LB, no matter how strong, is going to be able to simply run through... The coaches need to sit him down and get back to basics with him...
I was against drafting this guy from the get go but unfortunately the way the draft shaped up we really didn't have much choice. Hopefully at some point this guy figures out this isn't Ohio St and your not playing against the stiffs in the Big 10 or Youngstown St anymore.
Holy Cr*p Batman, you mean he's (Gholston) not THIS GOOD? Lawrence Taylor finished his rookie season with 9.5 sacks and 133 tackles. And was a pro bowler. If Gholston gives us half that, I'm very satisfied.
I agree with the 3 year wait until you judge a guy. But when you throw a potential spot starter against guys who will get cut, I'd like to see him make ONE play that stands out.
