Do you go back and replace the rivets in planes you already use? Or do you just make the new ones with the new rivet?
You're not taking apart planes and rebuilding them, and you're not doing replay for games that already happened. You do the best you can do moving forward. Progress.
No, but you're throwing it in in the middle of a season, and to me, changing the rules midseason compromises the integrity of the game.
It can't be both such a big rule change to where it brings the integrity of the game into question but also effects such a small percentage of games to where it's pointless. Make up your mind. If it's as insignificant as you say it is (which it isn't), then what's the big deal if they add it now?
Because while it only affects a small number of games, some of those that it would have affected have already happened. So unless you're going to change those (which is stupid), teams that benefit from it from here on have an unfair advantage over those that lost games that would have been overturned had replay been in use.
Say the Mets lost a game in May on a disputed call that the replay would have changed. Then say the Phillies win a game in September when a replay changes a call (meaning without replay they would have lost), and the Mets miss the playoffs by one game. Are you happy that they put replay in during the season?
Yeah, but I'm pissed that they sat around with their thumbs up their asses for some many years beforehand.
Yes, I'd be completely fine with it, because it improved the game. I don't like it when teams get advantages due to blown calls that shouldn't have been. Like tonight. Tatis grounded a ball to third that hit Beltran, in fair territory. The ump called it foul for whatever reason. Am I happy that he did? Yes. At the same time, I don't like to see the umps botch calls like that. I'm not saying that replay should be used for calls like that at all, it's just a topical point. And I'm not saying I wanted the umps to call Beltran out there. Fuck no. I want my team to win. But if they DID call him out, I wouldn't gripe because it was the correct call. Just like in your hypothetical situation. If the Phillies won that game on a home run and it was the correct call, then good, that's what should have happened. And if the Mets lost that game on the incorrect call, then I'm glad that the problem has been alleviated so it doesn't happen again. I'm not even saying it just to disagree with you, I'd not be upset about that situation at all. I'd be upset at the Mets' bullpen for blowing so many games. Yeah, it would have been nice if the Mets had won that game because of the blown call rather than been screwed, but what's done is what's done, and you can't undo it, and it won't happen again. The fact that it won't happen again is the best consolation MLB can offer, and I'll take it.
I believe the logical answer is "FUCK THIS SHIT FUCK BASEBALL FUCK PISS WEINERDOG CUNTMACHINE EVERYTHING SUCKS FUCK THE UMPIRES FUCK THE WORLD I HATE BASEBALL FIRE EPSTEIN."
If you can honestly say you wouldn't feel screwed big time in that scenario, you can't be that big a fan. If you are willing to let it go that a team beat you out for a playoff spot due to an advantage you didn't have just because it "won't happen again", then I don't know what to say. No reason not to wait until next season, or at LEAST the playoffs where everyone starts 0-0.
You're questioning my fandom and loyalty to a team because of it? That's foolish. The Mets could have and should have won plenty of other games that the bullpen blew, or that the offense fucked up Santana, or some other shit. I'd be upset that the call was blown in the earlier game. But the Phillies game where the call was overturned has absolutely no bearing on the Mets game where it WASN'T overturned.
The bottom line is, if you change a rule midseason and don't apply it retroactively (which, again, would be stupid) it's unfair.
Well, the bottom line is, that's your opinion, and I disagree with it, and it's obvious we're not going to convince the other.
Gee, this is the same argument that was on ESPN.... Try to Think of it the other way. Let's say it happens after thursday and they get the call Right because of replay. That is a good thing right? Or based on your argument, since the year started with bad calls, it's better to keep making bad calls for the rest of the year. How's that for Integrity!? Some people are so stubborn
It's moot because the Mets did not have such a game in May. Alas, I'll play your game anyway. I'm happy replay was put in this season, albeit at this late juncture. Only an asshole Mets fan would complain about finishing one game behind Philadelphia because a correct call was made.
Integrity of the game my ass. What the hell is the difference if they put it in April 1st or now. I bet theres a 50% chance that we wont even see them use instant replay the rest on the year. I can see people being upset if replay was put in mid-season for foul balls and other tougher calls, thats fine. This is such a non-issue since HR calls are rarely disputed.
