Are you referring to the same "geniuses" that said he probably wouldn't be on the team this season? The Dolphins QB situation sucked balls worse than ours.
Well, you must admit he had the job won here and wouldn't be gone now if not for Favre. I don't know where that leaves Clemens.
Yes, most of them (you?) claimed he would be cut or traded before camp. It took a Hall of Famer to make him expendable. There are probably three or four QBs in the NFL who wouldn't have been moved in favor of Brett Favre, no shame in that. And he got a job the next day for almost the same money, dispelling another notion on this board that he wasn't worth what he was making. Apparently he is, the Jets thought so and the Dolphins thought so.
There is definitely no shame in being replaced by Favre. There is no way to determine what would have happened if Favre didn't become available though. It's possible they would have traded for someone else. Pennington is making $4 million this year with the fins but would have been making $6 million here. That's not almost the same money. It's a 33.33% pay cut - that is significant. I know I wouldn't be able to take that kind of pay cut and live the same way, would you? He will likely be in another QB competition next fall.
There certainly is a way to determine what would have happened if Favre didn't unretire because we started camp with Chad still here after they had the entire off-season and draft to look into replacing him. They didn't find an upgrade until a Hall of Famer fell into their lap. Not only that, Chad was winning the starter's job here again when the deal happened. Regarding the pay, he's still making starter's money, went to a new team and won the job there in two weeks. It's not the same as you or me taking a pay cut because our jobs aren't as transient or public by nature, we don't have salary caps in our jobs (at least I don't), and we don't have millions in the bank to be able to make such a move. Again, for as worthless and overpaid as you guys all made him out to be, you were proven wrong twice in one summer. All he has to do now is beat us in Week 1, I can't wait to hear how you spin that one. Hopefully it doesn't happen.
You're basing that on the INT count that the reporters focused on? At least they continued the penalty lap counts after Favre arrived. Again, the Dolphins QB situation was worse than ours and clearly he was overpaid if he took a 33% pay cut. Clemens would have been an upgrade and a starter for them too. I think most people just saw him as not the answer, but not worthless. It's been discussed countless times why, I don't want to revisit that crap. It would have been nice to have him as a backup.
Clemens would be another guy that they already had--young, unproven and hoping he turns out to be good. Doubtful he would learn their offense in two weeks or be able to start Week 1, considering he's shaky still in his third year with this offense.
He was winning it, too, now he won another one in another place. I predicted it before Favre unretired. While we're discussing predictions, I like your Biden prediction in the Bullshit forum. Good stuff.
