The Tigers want to trade Rogers. I know he sucked the first time around here but is he not better than Rasner at least? I mean he isn't worth much as he would certainly only be here a month. I wonder what their thinking is. Do they think there is still a chance or are they throwing in the towel?

    HELL NO.

Kenny Rogers cannot pitch in New York in important games.

As for Detroit, their season is done. The White Sox are winning the division, and the Twins are taking the wild card. May as well get something for an aging pitcher while they can.

They won't get much but he will probably get claimed by somebody still in the playoff hunt that is also having pitching problems.

And he'll probably pitch fine for them. He'd probably be better off in the NL though. He would fail here, there is no question.

The majority of pitchers fail here. I mean I guess you can say the majority of pitchers fail, but pitchers who have built a good reputation around the MLB fail in NY. Who knows? I mean after awhile you should get used to a full ball park, I mean they are just people. Who knows why Conteras was good, came to NY and sucked, then went to Chicago and won 17. Who knows why people like Mariano are good in the clutch and people like Ankiel can't hit the plate.

It's something in the brain, they need to conduct athletic psyche testing like they do in the NFL to pre-determine how players react under pressure. The Yanks sure could use it, they've dropped millions on pipe dreams.

The answer is simple. It's the media.

Randy Johnson couldn't deal with the media from the minute his plane touched down. Kenny Rogers? Same thing. Kevin Brown? Yup.

Then you look at the guys who were truly successful here, David Cone, David Wells, Mariano Rivera. The media darlings get passes when they have bad games.

^ Some people aren't spotlight people, it's not in their nature. Some people aren't equipped to talk to the media, so having "social anxiety" translates to a guy not being able to pitch? If it were that easy to decipher and were in fact contingent upon one another, they already knew this about Johnson, he was never one with the media, nor were any of the other guys you mentioned before they got to NY, why take the gamble in the first place?

Another theory could be that farm grown talent has a higher probability to excel and win (i.e. Jeter, Posada, Pettitte, Marino, Bernie...) because they are accustomed to the media from the get-go.

I think Johnson would have had more success had he stayed healthy. He got hurt a couple times, and it just made it look like he wasn't as good as billed. He actually pitched pretty well here, but again, the perception by the general public was that he didn't because the media made him out that way. They did so because he wasn't any of their friends.

Make no mistake, the media, especially the major newspapers, control this city's perception of it's teams and the players on them.

Good luck guys...This is a make or break series for the Yanks...and it might as well be the same for the Sox.

Whoever loses two is effectively done. Lose three, you may as well start making your callups to plan for next year.

Wow, that one wasn't even close.

A TON of pitches for Pettitte so far. He'll probably be done after 5, 6 max.

They need to consider dropping A-Rod in the lineup.
