No surprise but now it's official. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp08/news/story?id=3552863 DAVIE, Fla. -- It's official. Chad Pennington is the Miami Dolphins' starting quarterback. Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said Monday that Pennington will start the Sept. 7 season opener in Miami against his former team, the New York Jets. Pennington was the face of the Jets the past eight seasons and arrived in camp this year competing with Kellen Clemens for the starting job. The Jets cut Pennington more than two weeks ago to clear salary cap space once they got Brett Favre from Green Bay. Pennington ranks first in NFL history among quarterbacks with at least 1,500 attempts with a 65.6 completion percentage.
Whad'ya mean... no surprise... I thought the majority voted he'd never start again? Someone should sure as hell be surprised! :breakdance:
Yeah, according to the geniuses here he was "clearly done" and nobody wanted him. Seriously though, I'm as big a Pennington fan as there was while he was on the Jets, but do we need three Chad threads today? One would cover it.
Well, think about it. Those are same people who thought or still think that Clemens can be a big time NFL QB.
Pennington would tell you that you are full of crap. http://www.miamiherald.com/1262/story/655204.html Pelted with potshots about his arm strength since two shoulder surgeries in 2005, Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington has heard enough. ''The perception is that way because I never defended myself -- I just let people talk,'' he said in a private moment last week. ''But it's perception -- it's not reality. You get tired of hearing about it.'' A few points to consider: • Pennington - who was 11 for 15 for 94 yards and a touchdown against Kansas City on Saturday - did a self-evaluation this offseason and determined there ''was never a question of whether I could put the ball there or not.'' But there was ''inconsistency'' in velocity. He believes a change in mechanics has improved that." ''I focused on using my body more,'' he said. ``When you look at the great throwers throughout history, they weren't arm throwers. They understand how to use their hips and abdomen to generate more velocity. That created a more consistent, faster throw. I've tried to change a lot of things to create more consistency.'' I hope he hasn't improved it. It would suck if he came back and threw 5 TDs against us in week 1.
Yeah...i read that article earlier Pennington is in denial. Anybody with an iota of football moxie..that has seen Pennington play at all over the last couple seasons...knows better. And the Miami fans are going to get a crash course in the "flutter ball out route INT returned back for a TD"
Chad Pennington-QB- Dolphins Aug. 25 - 3:09 pm et The Dolphins formally announced Chad Pennington as their starting quarterback to enter the season on Monday. John Beck entered camp as the favorite, but it was clear early that he isn't ready and he's now on the trade block. Pennington is the Fins' best bet to complete the highest percentage of throws, which is good news for Ted Ginn and Derek Hagan's catch total. However, Miami will likely be a run-first team and Henne has shown enough that he could take over before midseason. Source: South Florida Sun-Sentinel *************************************** Chad just can't catch a break ! He just goes from one QB controversy to another.
^ but it took him 8 years to understand that. A story I once heard about ol' Vinny T is that he would do 400 lbs squats before every game. The reason was to warm up the leg muscles so that he could throw the ball with velocity. Its like pitching - its all in the legs. The arm is for accuracy.
I don't know how he'll do over the whole season or if he'll even last 16 games, given his history, but I've got a real bad feeling about Week 1. If he does nothing else there ever, I think we're going to be up against it that first game.
I'm not concerned about Chad or his Wideouts....if anything, Miami's run game could give us problems.
Ultimately, someone on that offensive line is going to let a defender through one too many times and he will break. Hate to say it but, that stuff happens with a holey offensive line.
If that's true then you really have to wonder who the hell was coaching QBs on this team for those 8 years.
It's probably more the result of the shoulder injuries, the rehab and having to change his mechanics to be able to come back at the NFL level.
Already! It is too soon but if the Fins feel like they need him badly. Then looks like he is doing something good!
Pennington must be so excited that he gets to face Kris Jenkins directly in front of him for 2 games every season.
