Great players get paid, have perks and get attention that the ordaniary players don't get. Who would have thought that. I wonder if Michael Phelps or Bolt will get more attention than the other olympic athletes?
both of those guys are athletes that compete by themselves, bolt runs one team race phelps 2 of 8 and neither one of them even ran or competed all of the preliminary races to qualify for the gold medal team races. a football team is a team and they all must depend on eachother. the only perk they should have is that they get paid for performance, there should not be separate dressing and showers for one guy. that is against everything that team stands for. even michael jordan rode the bus when he was in minor league baseball, granted he bought a brand new bus for the TEAM but he still rode that bus with them. there are certain things that just shouldnt be done and those kind of perks have no place in a sport like football as they create descension.
This goes on in every team sport around the world. Veterans and great players are treated different by their own teams, by the media the fans everything. Players are jealous regardless of special treatment they resent other guys getting more money, media, commercials, everything. That's the way it is, Favre does not equal Brian Thomas on the Jets, for the sponsors, the fans, the media, anywhere. Same is true for Payton Manning and Tom Brady. By the way both Bolt and Phelps are part of teams and have team gold medals.
No matter what you'll have people happy and not happy, Favre fans and non Favre fans, it's just the way it is.
Page 2 always takes potshots at Favre. If I go to Page 2 or Florio on PFT, I know I'm going to read a Favre slam if there is something on there about him. They are the Anti-Madden.
Sean Ellis, Brian Thomas, Brett Farve, Nick Womangold, Jerriko Cotchery, Darell Revis- all pretty good
Question: Who's fault is it that the world has no idea who was on a very good team last year? Is it *really* Favre? Cause I'm pretty sure he's not the guy writing about himself. I'm pretty sure he's not grabbing reporters by the balls and saying "give everyone every detail about me, fuck my team."
absolutely, you arent going to pay bryan thomas the same as favre. nor should you. however i think it is a bit over the top when a guy is separated from his teammates and has his own personal shower and locker room. that is way too far and is what people will really be annoyed about. every job in the world has people who are better than others and people paid more than others. it is when they get those extra perks like the vehicle they can take home or not being held to the same standard that people really get annoyed. it usually is about other things than money. just like clemens not having to go on roadtrips, teammates were more annoyed about that than the fact he made 20 mill for a half season. it affects the team negatively, and i highly doubt that favre, at least i hope that favre doesnt get that kind of treatment here on the jets. the fact that mangini has already said when he sent him for a lap that he is just like everyone else and he wants it that way and so do i makes me much more comfortable. and no i dont necessarily think its bretts fault, i dont know the circumstances surrounding that locker situation, i know its not his fault that half of jets fans and 98% of media hang from his nutsack. i also think i stated it pretty clearly that both of those guys were part of teams and ran in events with others from their team but overall they are not involved in team sports, phelps raced 2 races that were team efforts and i am pretty sure he didnt race the qualifying races i know he didnt race all of the qualifying races that those relay teams raced. i also know that bolt didnt run the relay preliminary races and only raced the final. it is a COMPLETELY different situation, in those sports it is mostly up to them in football it is up to the team. i have never seen a play where only 1 person was involved.
I love the bit about "little social interaction because he dresses in his own locker room". They leave out the entire reason he has his own locker room is to not divert the attention of the media right? I mean, give me a break. He has been dressing in his own locker room for 13 of his 16 seasons in GB, ever since he got his first MVP award. The locker room thing has nothing to do with avoiding teammates. It's there for when media is allowed access to the locker room. Wouldn't surprise be if hte jets do the same thing for him. I just love how they take a selfless act and turn it against Favre. It really is a love hate relationship out there isn't it? All about him my ass, it's the media making everything about Favre. All he has done is mull about retirement. At his age, who wouldn't? If the man wants to play, let him play, stop poking holes in shit. In fact, brett's locker was in there with the guys like everyone else, and most videos taken in the locker room have brett in there goofing around with guys. I just don't understand the pure hatred of Favre by some media types right now. To me, it's more so fear. There favorite team most likely has to face him now, and there pissed because they had the jets game marked as a free win.
Yeah that's what I figured when I heard he had his own locker room. For 16 years the guy was all about Green Bay. Maybe at times he was selfish but he's nolt being Barry Bonds here with the locker room stuff. I had heard he did it so when the media came into the locker room they would have to talk to the other players before him. The guy who wrote this is just trying to bring some attention to himself by against the grain with the Anti-Favre story. Oh BTW I can name plenty of players on last years Packer team and I don't watch much of the Packers. Not for anything but what does how much older he is than all the players matter? It looked to me like he and Greg Jennings were on the same page alot last year? Or he and Donald Lee, or Ryan Grant.
UMMM correct me if I am wrong but DIDNT Brett and Mangold take a lap a couple of times for mishandling the snap. HMMMMM yeah he is getting special treatment alright.
If having his own locker room has such a negative effect on the team, why did the Packers have the best winning percentage in the NFL over his Green Bay career? This is just a reporter using his imagination to come up with a story.
touche!!! very good point and i cant argue it. but the last few years things havent been as peachy as they always were until last year. i am sure it had some kind of affect. they surely dont seem too angry to have a new qb though. there isnt anyone coming out saying they wish brett was still there. i think that might have something to do with what the writer was talking about. its a proven thing that treating one employee differently than another in such a way has a negative affect. like i said i dont know the situation i dont know if it was something they offered him, if it was something that they asked him to do or if it was something that he demanded. it appears as if he is a team guy and wants to be treated the same as everyone else so maybe it was management asking him to do this. but either way i dont see it happening here right now and that is a good thing. i was surprised to not see mangini come out and say something after brett told the press his arm felt tired and didnt tell mangini and mangini got blindsided in the press conference.. but i feel confident that it was spoken about as you really havent heard too much from brett since then. if mangini is going to put vilma in a position that he cant talk about anything then favre should be in that same position, and it would make his life easier to boot.
I have been following the situation very closely in Green Bay over the past few years and can tell you, without a doubt that any problems that arose, came about with the arrival of "present management". The bottom line is the "present management" did not respect the opinions of the man who had played with / led that team to the best winning percentage of any NFL team over his career of sixteen years as a HOF Green Bay Packer. It is very poor management to not use the knowledge of your most experienced player ( just as it would be in any business ). In my opinion, this poor management "probably" cost the Packers a potential SB last year as well; however this could never be proven so let's just say: Brett's last couple of years in Green Bay became "Teds way or the Highway" The Irony here is that I believe the Jet's and Brett will benefit from TT's stubborn management position. J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS !!!
For all I know he might have been trying to escape the media when he showered separately. In any event, I do not care. The guy plays every down. He has played with broken fingers, injured thumbs, who knows what else? That is what I care about.
