Well receivers holding on to the ball can not hurt. It keeps the drives alive, extending more playing time for Clemens. Hence he gets more live experience.

I don't even see what the big deal is. If Ratliff continues to progress, then he is our 2nd string if not then it's still Clemens. However, that hardly matters unless Favre gets hurt (knock on wood). Lets worry about Clemens vs Ratliff in about 2 years.

    Qb

I think Clemens has a chance of being waived/released by mid season if Ainge gets on the team. Maybe we should draft Pat White so we could have a good runner and a strong arm.

uh..first string qbs rarely get traded for 3rd round picks. In fact Pennington had to be outright cut and yet he will be a starter in Miami. It olny cost us a 4th round pick for arguably the greatest qb to ever play the game and you spend your entire rant on how Ratliff has never even played a down with the first team, but I guess because we are the Jets and Mangini is a genius he will get a 4rd round pick for him, right?

Maybe it is Clemens that is being showcased for hopefully a 7th round pick. I would think that is more plausible.

Hmmm, good runner and a strong arm sounds good. How about Michael Oher the OT out of Ole Miss. Lets draft him and convert him to QB. I hear he has a pretty strong arm. This way there will be like having 6 OT's out there. With an OT playing QB no one will ever pick up a sack against the Jets. *Sarcasm:mad:*

C'mon man. This isn't Madden. Ainge at best will end up in the practice squad. Clemens isn't going anywhere until his contract runs out.

I think you guys are using your imaginations too much. Favre is the starter, Clemens is his backup and Ratliff is pushing Clemens for the #2 spot, but is still #3.

Ainge has yet to throw a pass even in a preseason game. Why would we get rid of the only QB on our roster not named Favre who has experience in an actual NFL game? Why would we get rid of a 2nd year QB who made so much progress between year 1 and 2 and appears to have a lot of the attributes you look for in a good NFL QB? Why would we get rid of either of these guys when our starter is most likely only here for this season?

Ainge will most likely either get cut hoping he clears waivers for the PS or IR'd. If any of our QB's get traded I would guess it would be Ainge, but that is probably a long shot.

Then we would be like Oakland. Don't they have a OT playing QB?

Idk, im just throwing options out there for us. But really what are we going to do 2 years down the road when we dont have a Qb. Were going to have to draft a QB so then we'll be stuck with Ratliff, Clemens and a rookie.

When the team develops a defense that can stop the run as a rule, and an offense that can run the ball and threaten anybody on the ground, then we will have a good chance to develop some good QBing.

Otherwise, let's hope Favre continues to be able to hit anybody anywhere on the field at any given time.

Have to say that it is good to have a QB that scares DBs a little.

If we cut Ainge and there is a reasonable chance for him to be signed to another team before we can place him on the practice squad, then why not just place him on IR? I understand he has a minor ?hand? injury or something. In other words, what are the NFL regulations with regard to how serious an injury needs to be before a player is placed on IR? I vaguely recall Beli-cheat getting accused of using IR to protect players but I don't remember the details.

we will not keep 4 qb's. soooo....

do we keep ratliff or ainge? the other will be put on the ps and snatched up.

if we keep ratliff, ainge will be gone.

if we keep ainge, we can 'possibly' trade the much hyped ratliff vs putting him on the ps.

delima: keep ainge and trade ratliff for a draft pic or keep ratliff and loose ainge for nothing.

Why does everyone assume Ainge will definitely be snatched off the PS? Teams have their own 3-4th string prospects that they are evaluating, the guy fell to the late part of the draft, and he has barely thrown a pass in preseason. There is a GREAT chance he makes it through to the PS, ZERO percent chance that Ratliff would clear 'waivers' to the PS.

we just drafted ainge, so that's the guy we keep (duh) and ratty is history

reason- we will not keep 4 qb's

reason- neither qb will make any difference to this season or even to next season, therefore we could send both qb's to canada and the outcome of our seasons would not be altered even 1%. both qb's are 100.00% expendable

reason- someone's got to go, so ship out the kid that we can get something in return for. that's why ratty is getting so many 3-team reps and props, from writers and from mangini. pump the kid up, so to speak.

reason- the second we drafted ainge, ratty was gone. now there's the added benefit that he's doing good with the 3-rd team so we may get something for him. icing.

reason- his first name rhymes with brett

advice- dopt buy a brett ratliff jersey

if i am wrong, may god strike all of you dead.

His first name IS Brett, not it rhymes with the guy that's wearing #4.

Your point regarding Ainge, that he will not be the odd man out because he was a draft pick would've been valid if he was a 1st day pick. Since he was a 5th rounder, it hardly matters. Guys like Ainge are available every draft.

Look at all the other QB's that went in round 5 and 6. Ainge went in round 5.

    round - 5
    137 John David Booty
    156 Dennis Dixon
    160 Josh Johnson
    162 Erik Ainge

    round - 6
    186 Colt Brennan
    198 Andre Woodson

All of those QB's were high profile QB's in college. I would say out of all those QB's that went in round 5 and 6, Erik Ainge had the worst college career.

The draft will be no different next year or in 2 years. Teams will keep the best players. Especially since they don't have much money committed to Ainge or Ratliff. Only way they will cut Ratliff is if Ainge out plays Clemens, since there is no way they are cutting Clemens before his contract runs out.

    http://www.nfl.com/stats/player

Yeah we are gonna keep Ainge who hasnt even thrown a pass in the preseason instaed of Ratliff who been the best QB in the preseason.Ainge hasnt done anything so why would we keep him, just cause he was a 5th round pick. He going on the ps
