They only reason why I ask is because the man runs a 3.59 40. A Three Point Five Nine 40 time.... Wow. The Raiders must be looking into that.
Probably faster but he has preened before ever finishing it. Seriously though, he has probably never seen a football in his life and when you mention the word he thinks of some black and white thing that you kick up and down the field wearing shorts. The only good track stars to ever become good in the NFL were those where football was first and track second like Bob Hayes. Certainly not Johnnie Lam Jones.
Question here- I also heard the 3.59 40 yd. quote on a telecast, but it was never really followed up on that I have heard. Is that his time as he passed the 40 yd. mark during the finals; or did they just take his final time and boil it down to an average speed, and do the math. If the latter is the case then that time would not be accurate because his average speed would be higher than he could achieve during a 40 yd. sprint because the time getting up to speed after the start would be a much greater % over 40 yds. than 110 yds. (100 m.) I haven't checked into it and if anyone has heard how they calculated the 3.59 please share. Also factor in that they are starting out of blocks while at the combine they do not. But to answer the question; the dude makes Carl Lewis look like Jarred Lorenzen and I'd love to see what he could do on fly patterns.
It was my understanding that anything in the 3s is not humanly possible. If Bolt ran a 3.59 40 than he was aided incredibly by wind and/or a great track and conditions or the clock was not working properly. Or he has alien DNA.
I made similar comments in the Justin Gatlin thread from 2006. Here is the link to the thread- http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=7246 Nothing ever happened with Gatlin and the NFL, of course.
Yeah- If I remember right, they made the 3.59 comments shortly after the race, which led me to believe they just took the total time and multiplied it by .36 or whatever the conversion from 40yds. to 100m. is. At the 40 yd. (or about 36-37m. mark) I think he was just starting to pull away and probably only had about a .05 - .10 lead on the field, which would put them all under 3.70. To me, the 3.59 # sounds like an excited commentator using sloppy math. Since there is no 40 yd. mark on an Olympic track I don't know that we can get an accurate time of when he crossed the 40 yd. line.
If he runs a 3.80 40 its still inhuman. That Todd Lowben kid on Hard Knocks: Dallas Cowboys got me thinking about amazing athletic talents and how the attempt to transform them. If you transform this into a WR, its almost unfair. This is being done for fun however.
Yeah yeah he is the worlds fastest man by a country mile nobody can dispute that. I can think of a ton of reasons as to why he would not play football........ It really comes down to: He can make more money in Europe running then he can ever hope to make in football. More money and not get beat up...........
Not to be an ass or anything, but do you mind linking me up with the research behind that? I usually like to remain skeptical until I see the ins-and-outs for myself.
They said the same thing about a 4 minute mile. Humans are getting faster and this guy is clearly some freak of nature. I've been following track for about 20 years and I have never seen anybody run like this. The closest two I can think of are Donovan Bailey who was also Jamaican but a natrualized Canadian citizen and Michael Johnson who considering he still holds the world record in the 400 (our best event) speaks to how great he was.
He's really not a freak of nature. He is tall and takes 4-5 less strides over the 100 than most other athletes. What he has been able to do that other 6'5" sprinters can't do is manage to get up out of the blocks while more or less retaining control of his body.
That's because "speed" doesn't make a WR, or a football player by itself, it never has. This is been proven time and again on every team in the NFL. The patriots just had two great examples of this, "Tony Simmons" track star speed, awful football player and awful WR. "Bethal Johnson" fastest 40 time in the entire draft class, couldn't compete with Wr core that included Jabbar Gaffney and 35 year old Troy Brown as starters. Pure speed may matter in Madden, but in the real NFL it's almost worthless when it's attached to a player tha can't play "Football".
I don't believe 3.59..maybe 4.10-4.15 but not 3.59..... and even so, I don't care how fast a WR is if he can't run a route....and if just mccraphands was 3.59 speed he still woudlnt be able to catch
What about as a kick returner? Jerome Mathis on the Texans was a track guy, and he was having a pretty nice career until injuries slowed him down.
What about as a kick returner? Jerome Mathis, a former 4th round pick of the Houston Texans, was a track guy, and he was having a pretty nice career until injuries slowed him down. I think he's on the Redskins now, so maybe he can get things going again.
