Wow, after two pretty easy rounds of voting, we had a real close call in the Wide Receiver voting. Without further ado, the voting results: The decision was made to keep 6 Wide Receivers (48.4%). Since Jerricho Cotchery and Laveranues Coles were exempt from the voting, we could take four of the receivers in the running. The top four scorers, in order of votes received were: Chansi Stuckey (89.9%),Brad Smith (76.6%),David Clowney (70.7%), and Marcus Henry (64.6%). Narrowly missing the cut was Wallace Wright (60.61%). Also eliminated from the roster were David Ball (6.06%) and Paul Raymond (1.01%). With 3 rounds of voting in the bag, our current roster stands at 13 players. 40 slots remain for all other players. This is one of the thinnest units in camp right now, with just 5 Tight Ends. Chris Baker enters his 7th NFL season. The Michigan State grad has been the Jets starter at Tight End in each of the last three years, though he has battled occasional injuries. A potential training camp holdout because of desired contract renegotiations, Baker reported on time. Last season, Baker caught 41 passes for 409 yards and 3 touchdowns. James Dearth is listed as a Tight End, but has not been used as such since 2001, when he caught 3 passes for 10 yards. Nonetheless, the Tarleton State graduate, who enters his 8th NFL season has been a steady long snapper for the Jets. Bubba Franks came to the Jets as a free agent before the 2008 season. The 30-year old Miami grad enters his 9th season in the NFL. In his previous 8 seasons, all spent with Green Bay, Franks started 236 games. However, he has battled injuries the past few years, and lost his starting spot early last season. In 8 games, Franks caught 18 passes for 132 yards and 3 touchdowns. Dustin Keller is a rookie, entering his first NFL season. The Jets traded up into the first round to select the Keller, out of Purdue, at #30. Keller comes off a very productive senior season at Purdue, catching 68 passes for 881 yards and 7 touchdowns. Keller is said to have had a productive training camp. He caught a 55-yard touchdown pass from Kellen Clemens in the Green-White scrimmage. Jason Pociask enters his 3rd NFL season. Drafted in the 5th round of the 2006 NFL draft, the Wisconsin graduate was placed on Injured Reserve during training camp two seasons ago, ending his rookie campaign before it began. Last year, Pociask appeared in 4 games, catching 1 pass for 7 yards. Okay, ladies and gents. This is going to be the last poll until at least Saturday, but remember, Part 1 is how many to keep, then select that many tight ends.
you forgot the poll part.... but my votes TE wise are simple 4 tes Baker (Keller isn't a decent enough blocker yet to be a full time guy), Franks(Favre rapport), Keller (Duh! tearing camp up, and he is going to be our Gates), Dearth ( James is the only LS on the squad, and he is by far one of the best in the league. he isn't going anywhere).
My poll is up, don't know what happened for you. I wouldn't have kept Franks, but I guess we need to to placate Favre.
I think Keller is looked at as more of a WR, but i think Franks, Baker, and Pociask, should stay. Dearth is not going anywhere due to his long snapping capabilities.So i guess they all stay.
I think the Clowney injury might mess with those WR results... being that the injury happened in the middle of the poll.
i think dearth goes. wtf ever hes a long snapper. WHOO!!! a good one yes, but we need to carry franks, baker, and keller in case any one of those three goes down we have two starting quality TE's. further more, posciask has the potential to take over FB duties once richardson retires. dearth has been here forever but for all future intents and purposes I think a long snapper can be replaced. would i like to see him go? not really but if it worse comes to worse theyll run another position thin and keep all 5 actually but i did vote 4. lol
Its tough to get rid of one. I like Pociask to take over for Franks next year and Baker when his contract runs out, him and Keller are the future. Dearth is the LS, and one that can last for 8 years is not easy to do. I'll keep 5, and then use the other 28 for defense after we do the O-Line.
Screw Dearth, How hard is it to find a long snapper???? Clemmens is now useless to the team why not teach him to long snap....
I agree. Marcus Henry over Wallace Wright is a mistake. Henry would be the 6th receiver on the team and would never see the field over Coles, Cotch, Keller, Smith, Clowney, Stuckey, and even Leon. The only reason we keep 6 receivers is to retain Wallace for special teams.
Dearth over Franks? Why? Who offers more Red Zone threat.....oh yea, Dearth was always in the Red Zone last year snapping kicks because the Jets couldn't get into the End Zone. I know see why he is valued more.
Everybody: WE NEED A SOLID LONG SNAPPER. We don't have Adam Vinatieri back there, ok? I want everything to be PERFECT for Nooge. Long Snapper is one of those undervalued commodities in the NFL. Outside of our excellent gunners and returners, he's our best special teamer. If Bubba Franks stays on this team and catches more than three touchdowns, I'd be shocked. BTW, you think Brett Favre really needs an interpreter? As if Franks has been involved in this offense for two years?
Exactly. A DEPENDABLE longsnapper is a horribly underrated commodity. That's why he's still here in year 3 of Mangini's tenure. Get over it. The kicking game requires 3 specialists...leaving 50 actual football players. Franks has shown no good reason he should be on the team come September. Favre is really the only reason to keep him. Otherwise...C-ya!
I put only 3 tightends, but now thinking again I forgot to put in Dearth because he is our long snapper. So if you could change my vote to 4 tight ends
